Maternity Pants??

Is there such thing as wearing maternity pants too early!? I'm really thinking about buying some now, at 6wks... is that pathetic? I'm just super uncomfortable in my regular jeans and work slacks!!! I find myself unbuttoning them at the end of the work day!!! This is my first pregnancy so I have no idea what to do... anyone have any better ideas??

  • You can buy a belly band. I didn't like them. They have all types of maternity pants, so you could buy the ones that just give you a little more room now and then buy the full coverage ones later on.

You can definitely start shopping for maternity pants, but personally I like wearing my BellaBand in the beginning. Google it - it's basically a stretchy band that goes over your pants so you can wear them unbuttoned. I love it! I found that a lot of the maternity pants that I bought very early on didn't end up fitting when I got to be over 30 weeks. It definitely depends on preference, though.

  • I'm with you. I am so bloated. And I'm plus size so I won't show for AGES yet, if ever, but my regular work pants are so uncomfortable- and I've even lost weight!
  • I started wearing maternity pants at nine weeks last pregnancy.  By the end of my pregnancy I was SO sick of maternity clothes and it gets expensive.  I'm going to try to hold off a little longer this time but being as it's my second pregnancy who knows if that's even possible.

  • Reitmans (not sure if there is one in the states) sells stretchy (elastic hip sided) work clothes. The band on maternity pants will show through most clothes so unless you plan on telling people early... I also second the belly band and the elastic trick. I only wore maternity pants at the very end with DD because your hip size will change closer to the end and maternity clothes are so expensive.
  • I'm with you! Tired or being uncomfortable.
  • wait i'm not suppose to be wearing my maternity pants yet? I told DH the minute i get pregnant i'd start wearing them and i did until they put too much pressure on the top of my stomach making the nausea worse. Right now i'm just doing the rubber band trick until the MS goes away then back to the comfy pants.
  • GIRLS! Why weren't ya'll wearing jeggings to begin with? Therein lies the problem.

@stephweinstein I've totally been wearing jeggings since last week.

@noelietrex  Did you get the band or the body? I'm looking at the site but I can't decide if full coverage is better. I feel like the band would slide down and get annoying.

  • I can't wait to get unpacked from my move and find my dresses. It's warm enough to in without leggings. I bought the Bella band too, the full size and just folded in half to wear over my shorts. It's a little too hot when outside at 86, but fine in the AC. Definitely better than trying to close my regular pants. After I find my wardrobe, I plan to hit up thrift shops for maternity bottoms.

Yup I am currently obsessed with LuLaRoe leggings and plan on wearing them everyday until I pop.

I got the belly bands. I just want to unbutton and unzip and have the pants stay up/ hide my pointy unbuttoned ends. The body band looks like it's more for when belly grows and I'm planning to buy maternity pants for then. Just looking for something to hold me over during 1st trimester/ postpartum.

Yay! I'm glad you said this. I just ordered my first pair and can't wait to try them!
  • I've been wearing the same maternity leggings every day this week. It's not so much my jeans don't fit, but the tightness makes my stomach upset.
No shame for maternity pants. We are pregnant after all!

Thanks for the input. It's a moot point anyway, its a great deal on the bands but with the shipping it becomes $50+. I'll pass and stick to my jeggings for now. Thanks!

Omg they are like heaven! So soft. I know have 10 pairs and can't stop! These are currently my favorite pair.
  • Wow! Thanks everyone for the responses!!! I'm gonna head to target and see what I can find! I might just try the belly band thing first... Keep the advice coming though!

Target might not have a big selection. Mine didn't. Motherhood worked best and kohls sometimes had awesome deals. Also I heard lots of good things about Old Navy. I believe their maternity clothes are just online?! Not sure.
  • I love my Bella band;I've been wearing it almost every day with jeans and work pants. Otherwise I'm wearing leggings and long tops that I wore pre-pregnancy. I'm 6 weeks on Sunday, and I think I will be getting one pair of maternity pants soon-I'm starting to struggle to make outfits that hide the Bella band (it tends to roll up a bit on me).
  • Thanks @juliagulia38 I will definitely check those places out too!
  • I love wearing stretchy waist skirts. I'm short so maxi skirts look dumb on me but I am still loving skirts with knee high boots when I'm feeling my jeans pinch.

  • I'm so tempted to pull mine out. I'm so bloated and just want to live in leggings. The only reason I haven't is I know they won't stay on. I'm 15 lbs lighter than when I got pregnant with DS and the elastic is stretched out because I was sooo huge at the end.

    @jennyleigh16 - I got my bellaband at Target for less than $20. I def wouldn't pay $50!

@stephweinstein - I can't wear jeggings to work :(. We're business casual so I need to wear dress pants. Also, I never found any maternity dress pants that worked for me last pregnancy. They all looked horrible and were huge (I'm on 5' and a lot of maternity clothes don't fit me). I ended up wearing yoga pants most of the time haha.

@MrsRo731 - yeah, I can't wear jeans to work either. I must have had black pants for work last pregnancy but can't recall them.

  • I'm so scared of trying to find work clothes!!! I'm already uncomfortable - the minute I get home I'm in pajama pants and no bra (which now hurts). Actually I did that before I got pregnant! Ha!

We don't have Target in Canada anymore. :( I've been shopping around though. There's a maternity store near my work that should have them for a reasonable price. $50 was just too much to spend on something that may or may not work.
  • Yoga pants and stretchy waisted things here.  This is baby #4.  The struggle is real.

I love the LuLa Roe, too! It's the only thing I'm comfortable in right now!! I've got 5 pairs and looking for more unicorns!
  • @Maries1987 - what unicorns are you searching for, I can keep my eyes out for them! I have a serious addiction. I am wearing my camo ones tomorrow!
  • @jennyleigh16 Thyme maternity has bellabands for $24cdn. They have online shopping if there isn't a location near you.
  • Im in the "leggings are actually pants" camp, so Ive been wearing those. I think theyre more comfortable than jeans/pants anyways, and theyre nice and stretchy so I should be able to wear the ones I already have for a while. I just wear lots of long shirts with them, like midthigh length or just above. So thats my suggestion!
  • @noelietrex - I was wondering if you have received the Bella Bands you ordered online yet. Are you happy with the quality? This online deal of "just pay for shipping" seems a little too good to be true. Just checking before I order!
