For those of you on Team Blue, do you ever stop and think... I am growing a tiny penis inside my body.

Now I'm thinking about it... O.O

  • I saw this on another board and I'm genuinely curious. Someone said some states are trying to make the bumpers for cribs illegal. That's fine but seriously how would this even be possible? Yes, they can stop selling them in that area but more than a few people shop over the internet these days. Legally they (law enforcement) wouldn't be able (or have the time and manpower to waste) to go into every home and check cribs. I think this sounds a little excessive to be honest.

  • @kynbar5 They are illegal in Maryland. They stopped selling them (they only stock the mesh ones now) and I think hope their lack of availability will prevent people from using them. I don't think the cops will knock down the door if you order one on Amazon. :)

  • Hmm I didn't know that. I'm not advocating for bumpers here I was just really curious about how they would go about it. :)

And you can't stop people from sewing their own! Are they dangerous? I haven't really heard much about them. We didn't order them because they're expensive and seemed unnecessary to me. I didn't know they were an issue.
  • Confession: We've used the regular bumpers for all of our boys.  I might move to a mesh one because the regular ones are a pain for sheet changes.

Lol I'm honestly glad I'm not the only one. I've used them on every one of mine and never had an issue either. But yes, pain in the butt for sheet changes!

We used them for our son, too. That was back before the hullabaloo. However, I won't use them this time. I guess partly because they are contraband, LOL, but partly because it was just ONE. MORE. THING to put on the bed!

And you're welcome everyone ;) 95% of pregnancy cravings are from suggestions, I'm still convinced of that.

I'm convinced commercials were made for pregnant women.

I used mesh ones for DS1 and then moved to the regular ones later. I know a lot of people that do.

  • Anyone else hungry all the time!! i literally ate lunch at 1050 because I couldn't wait any longer and I am hungry (like full meal hungry) again an hour and a half later. That pie picture didn't help. It also doesn't help that I have enchilada filling cooking in the slow cooker and the whole house smells like delicious! I am trying to eat healthier meals, but I am definitely struggling in that department. I just want everything bad for me.
  • @Stormiewinter i am too! I had a 10:45 lunch, and I just finished off DH's chilli :)

Ugh this last 1/2 hour before we leave is taking forEVER!!!

  • So the pictures I got from my ultrasound turned out super creepy. Mostly because he was looking for problems and not for a good profile shot. But I've got some terrifying baby eyeball pictures that may or may not have haunted my dreams last night.

And also, my sweet little baby boy is measuring 12 inches already, which is like 2 inches ahead of schedule. I'm now terrified to give birth.

Seriously....at my AS baby was weighing 15oz and TB says they're like 10.5 that week or something like that. I'm also scared. Are they coming earlier that we thought or are we having 10lb giants!?!?
  • Remember, the u/s are only making an educated guess. Ds was put at over 9 pounds 2 day before we had him. He ended up being 8.5. Also, could just be your babies had growth spurts.

Bumpers are believed to be a suffication hazzard. Babies accedently roll into it and don't have enough strength to roll away. I plan on getting mesh numbers for the twins. Ds had several nights where he would get a leg stuck in the crib when he rolled, terrified me every time.
  • @SarahFoley725 as soon as the doctor looked at the screen, he was like "Oh my! He grew! Yep, looks like he's gonna be a big one!" and I'm like why would you tell me that? I'm a very petite 5'1" delivery is making me anxious enough without that comment d: but he's pretty sure my date will move up a week or so just based on size and development.
  • At what age do babies start "moving"  - so to speak - in their cribs? I wasn't planning on getting a crib bumper (mesh or otherwise) but I naively didn't realize that they had a practical purpose.

  • @2goofykids hahaha oh man. Our dr told us that genetics start to kick in around this time. I'm 5' and DH isn't an overly tall dude either. Maybe our kids are pulling their genes from wayyyyy up the family tree.

@flowerpower5838 my mom told me that the only real use she sees for them is it keeps the kids from knocking their pacifiers out of their crib. That's just her opinion though. Honestly I never really thought of kids moving around in their sleep much. IM SO PREPARED
  • They don't intentionally move for a couple months, if you swaddle them, it can help. Ds never took to swaddling though. Normally, if a baby rolls over by 3 months, it is accidental.
  • @flowerpower5838 at a few months old they can start scooting - it's kind of the starting crawling movements (especially if your baby happens to be a belly sleeper - yup we broke all the rules).  Later on during the first year the bumper can help keep legs and arms inside the crib (I've had a few wakeups when we didn't have the bumper on and my boys screamed because their legs were through and they couldn't figure out how to put them back through)...but at the same time when they start crawling they can use the bumper to hoist themselves up if they are that determined.

I would say around 5-6 months before they start really moving a lot? It's hard to remember! Even with the mesh bumpers he would still sometimes get a leg stuck in the crib slats. Of course they can't really hurt themselves but it is very upsetting (to them)  when they wake up.

  • @charley15 I'm so glad HE decided to let you see finally! Congratulations!
  • @flowerpower5838 we only used the mattress pad/crib sheet method here and used the sleep sacks for DS. He is 15 months old and has never gotten any limbs stuck. He is a crazy sleeper (rolls and wiggles all night). I think it depends on each kid. If you weren't planning on getting bumpers you could always wait and see if he needs them then buy a set of the cheap mesh ones at that time.
  • @Stormiewinter yes!! I feel like I've been eating nonstop today...and I work at sonic so it's definitely not healthy!!

@charley15 congrats and welcome to team blue!!!
