I'm 39+2 today and have been stuck at 1 cm "finger tip" and only 25% effaced since my 36 week apt. after that apt. I thought I had been loosing my MP just a little by little, apparently I was wrong. It just came out full on with out a doubt!! (Idk why it kind of made me excited haha) So my question is, for STM+ how soon after you losing it did labor really start? Just curious. I have BH ALL the time. I'm also a FTM and can never hear enough labor stories!!
Mine started ~48 hours later. I was 40+1 when I love my MP and 40+3 when my water broke.
I guess this is the best place to post this? Scheduled my C-section yesterday, for the 17th. Kiddo is complete breech (butt first, legs crossed). I'm an okay candidate for a ECV, but being my first kid and since she'sbeen that way since her anatomy scan, they didn't think it was likely to work.
So. Ahhh. Freak-out. We have a firm date on the calendar now, have to stop pretending that she'll totally be a week late and that we have loads of time.
I read the C-section thread, didn't have questions to add to it worth bumping it back to the front page, though. Who else is a c/s momma this time around?
RCS here, 6 days left (If she doesn't come sooner) I have had some.complications at the end of this pregnancy so it's comforting to know that I have an NST tomorrow and Monday before going in to have her on a set date.
I also have to add that I am glad my MW doesn't do cervical checks because I am not sure if y'all are aware... but you can walk around dilated for weeks and weeks. I am shocked by the number of inductions just because baby isn't here by the 40w mark. Due dates are a guess and it's okay for your baby to cook a little longer if there is no underlying medical issue! C-section is a major surgery. Advocate for your health! Ask questions! Do your research!
36w 4d and at our ultrasound this week our little girl decided to be breech after weeks of being head down! I'm beyond stressed! A C-section is worst case scenario for us because I have a blood condition where my body doesn't produce enough blood! We have to minimize blood loss during birth, due to needing transfusions already, and a vaginal birth does that. Anyway, hoping she still turns back again. We have a BP ultrasound and two NST sessions every week. She failed the the ultrasound and wasn't very active during NST. Stayed on for extra monitoring and the doctor decided she was ok and sent me home. Hoping she cooperates a little more tomorrow so she still has time to turn and we don't have to go to the hospital!
FEAR OF C-SECTION!

If your LO was head-down before and flipped, there's definitely hope she can flip again! There are lots of suggestions on spinningbabies.com to get her to flip back (I've tried just about everything on that site and it did me no good, but my kiddo has NEVER been head-down. We don't know exactly why, but I think she's stuck on the placenta or cord or something like that.) and if there's enough space/fluid in there, she can flip all the way up to labor time. Good luck!!!

Most of us do know this. But it is also nice to know the body is making progress and dilation, though not an indication of labor itself, does still show that the body is preparing itself.
Also most women who induce at 40w aren't going the CS route... I've been given the option to induce around then because not only does my baby have an arrhythmia but I live an hour from the hospital. I don't know if I'd go ahead and be induced since I really don't want to, but I'm not going to feel bad for inducing at 40w if that's the decision DH and I ultimately make. (And I do know my EDD is pretty accurate because I tracked my cycles and know when I ovulated)

No, I don't feel that many women in general do know that. Cervical checks cause unnecessary anxiousness. You would not fall in to that category due to a medical condition. Do you know the statistics on inductions that end in c-sections? They're pretty high. My point to the post was that in MOST CASES it is not medically necessary to induce because the mother is uncomfortable. It's more of an inconvenience issue.
Kind of labour related I suppose . . . I am 40 weeks tomorrow, but noticed that baby's movements had slowed in the past two ways. I mentioned this to my OB on Monday, and was told the standard "lay on your left side, count for 1-2 hours", but he also told me that I know baby best and even if I get enough kicks, if they are different/less frequent for my baby, or I just "feel" like something is off, to call L&D (I've never called in before, I just wait until my next OB appt).
I called last night after hubby came home and even he said baby's movements were even less than the night before. The nurses were really nice, told me they would rather I come in for a quick check and make sure that everything is okay, then worry/not come in if there was an issue.
I was in and out within 1.5 hours, NST completed, they think baby has just flipped to be back forward so I can't feel as many movements anymore . . . the NST picked up lots of movements that I couldn't feel at all. Heart rate was fine, and it also picked up a ton of contractions.
Not really that eventful, but thought I would share to reassure anyone else with a nagging worry. The nurses and OB were really nice, and said they would rather check in on a bunch of babies that were doing well than miss a baby who wasn't because mom was worried she was being a bother/neurotic by calling in. They also said call in if anything changes, even if it was just an hour or two later
Best of luck to everyone approaching their due dates!
I too am scheduled for a c-sec on November 17. We cannot believe it is just under 2 weeks away (or sooner if she decides to come earlier). We are beyond excited. I have had lightning crotch for months, but the past 4 days or so has been a whole other level of it. I actually bent over in pain b/c of it over the weekend while squeezing the crap out of my husband's hand that I happened to be holding at the time. I had no idea what it was...still don't, but it has happened several more times since then. I also have tons of BH contractions and had to lay down for a while on Monday for what can only be described as terrible period cramps - maybe it was a couple of small contractions. My doctor wasn't concerned at all and didn't check my cervix when I was there on Tuesday since nothing has been regular, cramp-wise.
We're having twins
Our angel baby boy is looking over his twin sister - due November 21
@ooooner FTM here. From what I have read and been told, when you have a contraction the baby is not active. Hope that helps and wish you nothing but the best !!!
Might be a stupid question, but since losing my MP, baby's movements have been so much more dramatic and intense. Just wondering if anyone else experienced this after losing their plug?

Towards the end you will be feeling babies movements a lot more, and they will be much stronger. i don't think losing your MP has anything to do with it.
I am nervous about my induction. Because I have been treating my GD with insulin, they don't want me to go past my due date. Does anyone have any experience with the Foley balloon? That is what I am most nervous about. I have never been in a hospital, and now I will probably be spending the night on my own without hubby (we can't afford to board the dogs) experiencing something entirely new and frankly, kind of nerve-wracking. Any experience would be greatly appreciated!
I tried looking this up and couldn't find anything. Aside from occasional menstrual-like cramping (kind of like lower back pain) and pain from the baby stretching/kicking, I haven't had any type of pain or contractions. I'm 40+3 weeks at this point and am wondering if the lack of contractions means I've still got a ways to go. Have any STMs ever gone into labor without experiencing any warm-up or BH contractions throughout their pregnancies?

I never had BH or any contractions at all with DS until my water broke at 40w3d. I had him at 40w4d.

Another RCS here! Scheduled for Monday the 9th at 8am. If I somehow miraculously go into labor before then (not counting on it) we may try VBAC otherwise I am just fine with another C. Been through it twice and both times were emergency after 3 days of labor so this should be a breeze in comparison! Seriously counting the days/hours now though. I can't wait to hold her!
So pissed at my OB right now. 3 weeks ago a doctor at the practice told me she expected me to go early because the baby was looking a little big but she wasn't for sure. Last week the same doctor said that she estimated the baby would be about 7-7.5 pounds at delivery. Okay, that's not huge. Now today another doctor (my doctor) is telling me that he has scheduled my induction for Nov 23rd evening (my due date is the 24th) because I'm too petite and the baby is huge. Plus, he says, "I want you to be home for thanksgiving". More like he wants to be home for thanksgiving. I have no idea what to do. I do not want an induction. I feel like he might as well schedule the c-section now based on all the horror induction stories I've heard. I'm just so angry. Could I just not show up for my induction if I don't go into labor before then? I just feel like he's inducing me for his thanksgiving dinner and I don't feel like he has enough evidence to say how much the baby will really weigh.
This is a good thread! This morning, I was about to get in the shower and a gush of water came out. I figured it was my water, but it ended up just being my mucus plug. My midwife said that if your plug comes out in your sleep, a lot of times it will be watery when you get up. My question is did anyone else feel crampy after losing their plug? My midwife said it's normal, but the cramps have me feeling anxious for labor!
With my last pregnancy my mucus plug came out while I was peeing and it was thick and tinged with blood.. The following day I had my daughter so for me, labor was immenant. My water broke later that night and contractions started the next morning. Be ready just in case!

I hear it can be painful but it usually works well to get you to 4cm without drugs. My doula recommends one instead of drugs if you're not dilated.

You always have the right to refuse any medical intervention. I would tell your OB that you don't want to be induced, unless there is a true medical reason. Trust your gut. I wouldn't recommend just "not showing up" talk to him now and tell him how you feel.
Well off to Labor and delivery due to a spike in my BP paired with a headache. It's not the birth center I want to go to but my nurse recommended I go to the nearest hospital. Here's to hoping they don't need to induce and my LO can cook longer and I can deliver at the hospital I want.

If there's no medical issue other than a possibly big baby, you can refuse induction before 42 weeks (it is not safe to wait past 42). Late pregnancy weight estimates are notoriously inaccurate- ultrasound can be off by 2 lbs! It's your choice, ultimately, whether or not you are induced (assuming there is not a medical reason why it is safer for your baby to be born earlier). Hopefully your LO comes a little before your due date so you don't have to refuse! I'd suggest trying some safe labor-inducing methods at 39 weeks to see if you can help move things along (sex, exercise, spicy food, etc. not castor oil!), and stand your ground with your OB if you feel strongly about it. And remember, even 10 lb babies can be safely born vaginally! And no matter if you end up med-free, induced, or a c-section, the ultimate goal is a healthy baby.

I would not feel comfortable with a doc pressuring me to do an induction before my due date. Did you express to him that you don't want to do that? I feel like he can't force you to agree to it just for the sake of convenience!

I agree with PP, you can always say no! Its your body and your baby! My OB and nurses already know I don't even want to hear the word induction. So even though mine is also supposedly a big baby, tomorrow is my due date and I'm already 3cm dilated we have not even discussed setting a date. Baby is head down we will talk more if I make it to 41 weeks, till then shush!!

I'm 38 weeks today. Blood pressure is staying elevated so far. They are running blood work so we will see! I've been advised not to go back to work though so I'm dreading making that phone call.

Thanks so much for the feedback ladies! I do not have GD and have had a really healthy pregnancy, so I don't feel as though there is any other reason. I will definitely express to my OB that I do not wish to be induced. I didn't really get a chance to talk because I was babysitting my niece last minute and had to take her with me, I guess the doctor freaked her out and she screamed the entire appointment (:|
How normal is it to pee, and then have to pee 5 minutes later. Should I concerned about it being water not urine?
Take a look at a picture of an unborn child at the final few weeks of gestation and you'll see that the bladder is very small and squished. I have to pee any time I stand up at this point. As long as you're giving urine samples at your doctors appointments and they aren't saying anything is put of the ordinary then I'd say you're fine.
I am 40 weeks tomorrow. Yesterday I had a pain in the right side of my lower back but it was manageable. Today I've woken up early hours of the morning and I am struggling to even walk with it. Could it be baby pressing on my sciatic nerve or is this part of labour? I've had no other symptoms no loss of mucus plug or anything else. If it is nerve pain in there anything you ladies can recommend to help in the meantime? Many thanks.

I'm not sure what it is or if this will help, but I take epsom salt baths and for a few minutes I roll onto my stomach. I prop myself up on my elbows, and let the rest of me float and I'm telling you it feels amazing on my lower back and hips!! Sounds insane, but wow closest thing I can get to laying on my stomach and the water takes all the pressure off! You could also fill a bowl with hot water and Epsom salt and soak a rag in there and then put the rag where it hurts. My chiropractor always recommends that.
You absolutely have the right to question an induction "decision" made by your doctor. Your body. Your baby. While we should all be respectful of medical professionals' opinions and expertise, that doesn't mean we have to blindly agree to something we don't feel is in our (and our babies') best interests. It's fair to ask whether it's an emergency or whether you or your baby would be in danger if you did not induce and why. It's also fair to ask for a second opinion - as at the end of the day you should be comfortable with what the decision is - whatever it may be. Good luck!!
