  • Ugh I tried to let her cry yesterday for her first nap and it was a disaster! I went in at 3,5,10,10 and she was still screaming. Each time I went in I rubbed her belly and said shhh, rubbed her head and she just smiled and laughed at me. I gave up after that.. :( today I got her down easily for naps and she stayed asleep all of them except the last nap of the day which always sucks. I should have stuck with it but couldn't risk having her not nap again! I don't know what to do!
  • Love DH but he won't let LO sleep on her tummy even if she rolls that way herself (says she's too young). She has good head control & can roll every direction. I guess I just let him stay up with her? She's still waking every few hours to eat at night. I was trying not to feed unless it has been 3 hours or more since last feeding but thinking of increasing that to four hours but LO really does seem hungry. I don't know but going to start tracking her sleep better again to see if I can find patterns so at least DH & I could take turns more. Right now it's either me or both of us up & somehow we need to divide & conquer. Harder with EBF & my supply has taken a bit of a dip recently :( I don't want to run out of milk. Not much in my freezer stash & only able to pump about 10 oz while I'm away at work so I'm reluctant to give him a night feed. Hmm...so many parenting decisions. Hoping for one last good stretch of sleep before morning (like 4 hours would be great!)

I think it's better to start with overnight. All naps and sleep are better after the initial first cry. It's like everything else falls into place. You're supposed to stop the nap at 30 minutes if he baby is still crying, but at night it's until they are asleep. Maybe try focusing on overnights?

@Sjeff0816 I guess I could do nights. She only wakes up once in the motn and sometimes not at all. She's pretty much asleep when I put her down around 8. Do I want to risk it by waking her up to let her cry? Only thing is I don't know if she will keep dd up with her crying

She may not cry. I found my LO never cried in the MOTN when I started. The worst, and most effective, was when I put her down for the night. Give it a try! However, I do feed her the one time (occasionally twice) she wakes up at night. She gets drowsy and I put her in the crib with no problems. And sleep training is what got us down to the once a night wake up -- once she STTN completely.

Can you get DH to talk to your pedi about it? I was worried too, and LO rolls to his belly easily but has trouble rolling belly to back. Our pediatrician said if he's getting himself there, we can't control it and it's okay. It was a rough few nights because he'd wake himself up when rolling, but now he sleeps SO much better on his belly. He's sleeping through the night. We still put him down on his back but what he does after that is up to him...and now he pretty much rolls immediately!
  • @Sjeff0816 ok, so you think I should start tonight and then continue with that for naps tomorrow? And it will get better?

That's what I would do! But I'm not really an expert. Starting at night seemed to work well for my LO. Hang in there!
  • @Sjeff0816 thank you. after her crying for 30 minutes the rest of that day naps sucked, coincidence or not but I felt so bad after. And didn't want to try it again at the next nap incase she didn't nap again.
  • I really am genuinely sorry for all you mamas out there up with your LOs. You guys have it worse than I do, for sure. I feel bad complaining.

But still, this is me. Again

  • WTF. LO was just up for an hour, most of which was crying. I tried soothing in her crib, rocking, I fed her and still crying. If I believe the monitor, she's back asleep now but I keep hearing phantom baby cries and can't sleep. DS is going to be a bear in the morning after all that crying plus time change plus Halloween. I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

    Same here, minus the poop.

Should be a great day, especially around 5.
  • My baby figured out the time change for the win. However I have started not being able to sleep at night. Right there with you @mellymar . What's up with that???
  • Its really annoying. What the hell is wrong with us @janit368? We can't even blame the baby for being such zombies. And its stupid because I'm SO tired!

  • So, I'm stuck NEEDING to have a snack after the 2-3am feeding. I keep feeding her at that time for now, because I know I want that snack, so why wouldn't she?!
But this means I am up 10 min after she is to eat my snack & drink..... Dumb.
  • My kid hasn't been affected by the time change!... Um, yeah, same 4:00-6:00 am party, per usual. Womp womp
  • Daylight savings plus growth spurt have effed us up! She didn't go to bed until 8 which was really 9..and has been up since 3 @-)

Yikes! Hope all your babies are like "oh daylight savings? I got this." And sleep soundly!
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
  • We kind of tortured LO yesterday...we ran errands and she kept falling asleep in the car for like 15 minutes at a time but then waking up...so her total nap time was only 2 hours at the very most. She was exhausted and fully passed out in her crib at 7pm. But the plus is that she STTN. I'm sure she'll be up by 6 at the latest, but hopefully this will get her back on schedule where her MOTN feed is at 4 if necessary. I don't mind that bc I have to get up for work between 445 and 5 anyway, so when she needs to eat I just get up early; and if I can get her to take both boobs I can avoid pumping until 8-830 which is great bc pumping is the worst.

I had a more difficult time adjusting than LO I think...as I was in bed at 845 last night. Ha!
  • put baby down by 8:00 pm yesterday, he was up 11, 1, 2, 3.....daylight savings I hate you! Its 4:30 now and he is wiggling around

  • Both kids were up at 5. Tried to lay in bed with DS for 20 minutes to get him to go to sleep. No dice. We moved into LO's room and made him a spot on the floor to lay quietly. Fail. We're moving downstairs.
  • Wtf, at 5 months LO has returned to cluster feeding?! Like he's on/off the boob for 2-3 hour stretches. Was one thing while on maternity leave, but on a work night... :((

  • 13 hr night shift for daylight savings.....

  • My babe fell asleep "watching tv" last night DH reported.....so screen time is good now right guys ?!?
  • I gambled last night with not using the sleepsuit and lost. Woke up at least once every hour due to some kind of activity in LOs room that made my monitor click on, tho over half the time he settled himself. I did have 5 'interventions' tho, where I had to go in and give the paci back or put my hand on his chest and sshhhh. And my baby wake up call at 6am. After which he fell asleep on the boob for another hour and I was stuck watching crappy am news. When I tried to resposition so that I could also fall back asleep, he woke up and went nuclear. Time to eat again.

What have we learned today? Not ready for life without the sleep suit. Despite my insomnia, go to bed early tonight

Good to know. I can't help feeling like it's just me not trying hard enough to sooth him back to sleep without relying on the boob.

  • We adjusted her sleep time on Friday to prepare for the time change. We kept her up an hour later Fri and Sat and let her sleep her usual time frame and she breezed through Sunday like a champ. Today, who knows how it'll go!
  • I'm at a loss. LO is up every 20 mins or so after 11pm. She goes to bed great after bottle around 8 but only sleeps soundly for a few hours and then she wakes up all the time. She sleeps on her tummy and ends up flipping over and waking herself up then refuses to sleep on her back. Ugh idk ehT to do
  • Fingers crossed...LO has STTN two nights in a row now.  To be fair, she has napped terribly both of the days leading up to those nights, but still.  Her previous record was 3 straight nights, and that has not occurred in over a month.  Maybe the 4 month regression is over?

She has been falling asleep on her back and staying that way for several hours at the begnning of the night before moving to her side for a few hours and then winding up on her belly.  She just learned to sleep on her belly in the past few nights, so i'm still an insane person who is constantly checking on her and making sure she's breathing, but she seems to sleep really well that way...usually her MOTN feed is at 3 or 4am, and she's been on her belly at that point the past two nights and just sleeps right through to between 6:30 and 7.  Belly sleeping FTW.

Side note: she might be hitting this 5 month growth spurt early (is 19 weeks early?) because between the time she woke up yesterday at 7am and the time i picked her up at daycare at 5pm, she had consumed 32 ounces of breastmilk...and then she nursed once when we got home and AGAIN before bed.  I just barely broke even on pumping yesterday, when i usually run a surplus still.  It's either a growth spurt, or she was crying for her afternoon nap (which she skipped yesterday apparently) and they misinterpreted that as hunger and shoved a bottle down her throat.  who knows.  But when i picked her up she had been awake for over 2.5 hours and was smiling at me and trying to figure out how to crawl...so she didn't appear to want or need that final nap really.  I know she does usually drink an extra bottle in the morning when she STTN, but that is still a LOT of milk for her in a day.  And i can't handle a growth spurt, she already weighs 18lbs and i can barely lift her!

  • ^^^^ I actually just thought to myself is he actually hungry or just tired. But he's eating with gusto every time, which makes me think he's hungry.
  • @delujm0 I'm glad I'm not the only one having a hard time lifting my baby! And they keep getting bigger.
My LO is 23 weeks & still does not have much of a sleep schedule. We're celebrating two nights where her first stretch of sleep was 6 hours, then 4 the first night. But last night after the 6 hours she decided to stay up for the next 2 1/2 hours before I could finally get her back to sleep. When she would do this before I chalked it up to the four month sleep regression but she is well over that now. Do you think daylight savings may have played a part? Anyone else with a 5 month old who still does this? Also does anyone else's LO sleep less the the 14 1/2 hours they say they should be sleeping? I need to keep track a little better but I'm thinking I have a kid with super energy who doesn't need to sleep as much as normal. Unfortunate bc DH & I are big sleepers. I mean we need sleep more than the average adult & we're older parents too. I think we are in for long 18 years. Pretty sure we are only having one! I'm dying here.
  • How long does this 4 month sleep regression thing last...somebody please make it stooooop
  • How long does this 4 month sleep regression thing last...somebody please make it stooooop

Well, mine has lasted from ages 2-5 months and counting. LO was up every. hour. last night... but I hear others saying it's maybe a couple weeks.

    You got this, mama!
  • Baby peed all over himself and his Merlin sleep suit....I dont have a back up so I swaddled him one arm out. He peed that one too! He woke up maybe 4-5 times last night. I finally put him in my bed again to sleep with me a couple of hours. I really need to stop this cycle and have him sleep in his crib the full night.

Side note. Ever since he started wearing the Merlin, he doesn't move as much at night which is the whole purpose of using it. Before he was rolling to his side. Now I'm worried that by wearing the Merlin he is not getting his exercise by moving naturally at night. He is 20 weeks and no where rolling over during the day.

  • My trial balloon without the merlin I definitely saw him moving around a lot more. Turning onto his side and then back to his back. He woke up much more often, too. Most of the time he put himself back to sleep but I had to go in there 4 or 5 times to give him his paci back before he would fall back asleep
I've wondered about his movements being restricted, too. Wondering if he didn't wear the merlin if he would advance to rolling over sooner. Oh well. Its a problem for another day
