I fainted... have you?

I fainted on Monday, I'm 17 weeks pregnant. It was due to being anaemia and having low blood sugar. It was really scary. Has anyone else fainted?

Re: I fainted... have you?

  • I haven't actually fainted but I get intense head rushes several times a day where I fully black out. I'm generally good at catching myself but about a week ago I had nothing to hold on to and wobbled in the air, luckily it was a weekend and DH was home and caught me. I'm so over it.

  • What @NachosAndPeaches said. I get dizzy, the room spins, and I grab onto something.. I'm afraid of of these times there won't be anything to grab. Try to hydrate and eat healthy snacks regularly.
  • Yes I have. It was because the night before I was vomiting and dehydrated. My ob said it was normal
  • What others have said. I have "blacked out" a couple of times but luckily never actually hit the floor. It's still pretty scary. I do feel like it happens more when I'm not well hydrated.

  • So scary! Ill second the dizzy/blackout, and came very near to fainting once. My blood pressure has been pretty low, so I've just been hydrating like crazy and it helps a lot! If I don't down a bottle of water when I wake up, the dizziness sets in.

Take care of yourself momma! Hopefully it doesn't happen again
  • I've passed out both in this pregnancy and my previous one. Other times I'll start to get tunnel vision and get dizzy. We're thinking that it's a combo of low blood pressure, blood sugar and dehydration from all the puking. Your body is also producing a ton more blood now which doesn't help.
  • I have never fainted in my life. I hope I don't start now!
  • Glad I saw this thread, because I was freaking out a little. Felt faint and shaky today after eating.

Water helped so I think I was dehydrated.
  • I am so happy I saw this thread too.   I have been very close to fainting these past few days (17w) and feel so light headed and shaky.
I am afraid because I have been prone to fainiting my whole life.  Good thing because I know what to do.  I have extremely low blood pressure to begin with so I cannot imagine what it is like right now.

My friend told me that I have to start snacking every hour, even just a few pretzels, and if I reach the danger zone to eat some sugar or juice and that helped soooo much.

I fainted Monday and woke up in a pile of vomit.. I had worked too hard and had let my blood suger get too low. I was 18.2 when it happened.

Being dizzy has been really common for me since about 8 weeks. I make sure to drink about 90 ounces of water a day, and I don't stand up too long, or I start to fall over. I had to get over my pride of never asking for help, as it's been very necessary throughout the pregnancy thus far.
  • So far only once when they did some blood work last visit. They took a lot, and the next thing you know/ there was like 5 nurses in the room and my poor 3yr old look scared out his mind! Def. not fun, hoping it doesn't happen next time I get blood drawn.
  • I fainted today at Ol'Charleys. Just posted a discussion about it to. Lucky a EMT had just walked in to eat. I had been standing for 20 minutes waiting to be seated. I got hot and dizzy. Asked my boyfriend to get me a water. Next thing I know woke up surrounded by lots of staff. The EMT checked me out tho. They said I hit my head really hard but I didn't feel a thing. My boyfriend is still freaked about it. I fell backwards.
  • Okay reviving this. Been getting the head rushes for a while. The last week or so I've been feeling heavy/numb arms during them and having trouble breathing. Just for the course of the head rush. Also totally blacking out, not just tunnel vision. Last night I full on fainted. Except I could tell it was coming and sat down first. But I was unconscious for 5-10 seconds.

I texted my dr today and his response was "Unfortunately, it can be a significant problem with some patients. Also, there is no cure. When I see you I will talk to you about what can be done to help improve your symptoms."

I know our response is to listen to our drs, but I feel uneasy with his response. He's a perinatologist and has seen really intense, complex etc cases. Like he's had cases with a hidden triplet that died and he had to do a c section type surgery on the triplet while keeping the twins alive. So he deals with stuff like that, and so sometimes I think he's too relaxed about the little stuff. I know if I asked to be seen he will let me, but do you guys think I should insist, or am I overreacting?

  • This happened to me in my last pregnancy. W
I fainted while I was at target. My family forced me to go to urgent care and they sent me to the ER for so many unnecessary tests. Now I know this year if it happens again not to go to the ER unless it's really bad. Good to know that this is more common than I thought.

  • I almost fainted on stairs today. That was fun... The class I had just finished is upstairs and there is no ac up there! Not cool when it's still in the mid eighties around here...
