Is this normal? Symptoms thread!!

Re: Is this normal? Symptoms thread!!

  • This isn't necessarily a symptom, but I HATE starting new threads. Any STMs have experience with supposedly big babies? I've had 2 ultrasounds since my dating scan at 7 weeks. Both times I was asked if I was sure about my due date (once was in the ER and once was an elective sex screen). In the ER both the head of femur were measuring 2 weeks bigger than it should've been. The tech at the elective u/s literally said "Whoa, thats a big boy! Are you sure you're not closer to 17-18 weeks?" Well, I temped/charted and am positive about my ovulation dates. My daughter was  only 7 lbs, but my husband and his brother were huge. DH was 22 inches 10 lbs full term, but his little brother was 24 inches and 12 lbs... 4 weeks early. They are both over 6'3" now.
So, back to my question... ladies who had larger babies- did your babies measure big throughout the whole pregnancy? I know all pregnancies are different, but I'm curious (and terrified to have to push out a 12 pounder haha).
My son was measuring big and I had to have an extra ultrasound. He was only 7 lbs 3 oz. I would try not to worry too much :-)
I know its totally an irrational fear :) I just keep picturing this massive baby haha

  • Anyone else itch so badly they want to just tear their skin off? DH will randomly walk in on me using door frames as a back scratcher and I've had enough. Vicks helps but I can't exactly put it on my face and I don't like smelling like Vicks all day. I'd prefer something I can go pick up today from Walmart or target but I'll order it with rush delivery if I need to. I just want some relief!
  • @AmadorRose I was itchy all night yesterday, I took a cold shower which helped. So annoying.

My last son measured big too. He was on track at my 20 week anatomy scan but due to some complications, I had an ultrasound at 31 weeks and that is when he first started measuring bigger. I think had a few growth ultrasounds since my Dr. was concerned about me delivering a big baby (my older two were 7.6 lbs and 6 lbs even). DS3 was thought to be right at 8.3 lbs according to the ultrasound the day before his birth, yeah, wrong, the boy was born at 9 lbs 3 ounces lol. But everything went well, it was actually my easiest recovery in whole.
On another note, my nephew measured big early on and they had prepared my sister for all scenarios. They were thinking 10lb or more baby. He was born at 8.3 instead.

Ive been using aveeno and its worked for me so far, though i doubt my itches are as bad as yours from the sounds of it. I lather myself up once or twice a day. During the winter when i get really dry/cracked hands i use aquaphor ointment which does an amazing job healing my hands. I think i remember seeing a jar of aquaphor lotion in stores, while i havent ever tried that one, maybe it would help you? Also, some body washes are more drying than others, im currently using st. Ives shea butter an oatmeal body wash. Look for something thats moisturizing for dry skin. Good luck, i hope you find something that helps.

I normally use aveeno, eucerine in the winters because my hands crack and bleed from the dry air, but nothing is helping. I did notice that the itching lessened considerably after taking my Zyrtec, which I didn't take over the weekend, so I'm thinking I'm having some sort of reaction to something. Now I just need to figure out what! Itching in the ears is very uncomfortable.
  • I am SO out of breath SO easily. I can't even imagine trying to go on walks, I feel like I'll die! Ok, a bit dramatic, but seriously. I feel a heavy pressure on my chest sometimes, same kind of pressure I had when I smoked a pack a day. I originally just passed the symptom off as something caused by my previous smoking. But then I read somewhere it could be an iron deficiency. I take the gummy prenatals because the mass amounts of iron makes me yakkity yak like crazy.

God me too!! Especially around my nipples driving me insane. I've bought some E45 itch relief which does take the edge of for a little while. I'm going to ask the midwife next wk at my 16wk check.

I had to climb a flight of stairs to talk to two patients this morning, and had to apologize for breathing so heavy before I could actually focus on what they say. I quit smoking in May and have been pretty active, but now I'm mostly just going on walks because I stopped running in the 1st tri. I definitely don't power walk, but it does feel good to get outside and do something. And I know my iron is usually on the low side, so now I'll have to look into that!
  • I just am sitting down at my desk and all of a sudden it feels like I just leaked all in my panties. I go to the bathroom and it clear?? Wth!

My DS was/is a huge baby. He measured normal size up until the last few weeks. We knew he would be big (Dh is 6'6" and I'm 5'9")and I did have to go for a scheduled cs about a week before due date. He was 10 lbs and 21 3/4". HTH

*i screwed up my reply post by not quoting first. Sorry! I'm usually just a lurker during this pregnancy and forgot how to post properly.

This. This exactly! I'm having such a hard time keeping up my usual dance classes (aka my JOB) because of it! Let alone the jumping I'm supposed to do >.>
  • Has anyone else's arms been falling asleep when laying down? It's driving me insane, and I actually woke up from being able to feel my left arm this morning!
  • @knottie9983816 I have this problem every night. It wakes me up and I have to shake my arms for a few mins.
  • I'm 16w3d and a few days ago hubby noticed during our intimate moments that I've already started leaking from my nipples! This is my first pregnancy so I was seriously was weirded out but I know its normal. I've just never had anything coming out of my nipples ever and it kinda amazes me lol and I didn't think it would start this early. Hubby says I'm just super ready for this baby :) anyone else had this yet??
  • BTDT bf'ers: I've got pain in one breast just under the areola. It's like when you let down and baby only nurses on one side, and the other side has milk that pools under the nipple. Anyone else? Can't remember this happening during my other 3 pregnancies. I assume it's just milk production ramping up, since my boobs have doubled in size in the last week or two.

I've had a pain like the beginning of a clogged duct on the same place on one boob for a few weeks. I asked my doctor and she said it was normal, milk production is starting again, just let her know if it gets hard/really painful.

  • Can anyone tell me what they've done to alleviate sciatic nerve pain? It's gotten pretty bad the last week or so :((
  • Has anyone else's arms been falling asleep when laying down? It's driving me insane, and I actually woke up from being able to feel my left arm this morning!

I had this happen for most of my first pregnancy. My doctor mentioned that it could be a type of weird carpal tunnel due to swelling from pregnancy. I bought 2 hand braces online and wore them at night when it got really bad. You look silly but it really did help!

One of my fb friends was complaining about her arms/hands falling asleep, so I jokingly asked if she was pregnant. She said no, but two weeks later announced her pregnancy. I've had this problem with all of my pregnancies.

  • For those who said they had been feeling cold. I'd reccomend getting your thyroid checked. It could be a symptom of hypothyroidism which left untreated could be problematic. I was diagnosed at 14 weeks caused by the pregnancy. Don't google it just check in with your doctor.
  • I feel so sick right now that I can't sleep. I had diarrhea and feel nauseous which is weird because I haven't been nauseous all pregnancy. I feel like crap and am so worried something is wrong. I kind of want to go to a hospital or call someone but it's late and there is no one to call and I don't think I can just go to a hospital. :(

Your OB should have a weekend/after hours number you could call to talk to a nurse. Maybe you ate some food that didnt agree with you? I hope you feel better.

Thanks. I really don't think my OB has that though. There is a doctor on call which means I would have to call the doctor at their home and wake them up and I would feel guilty and stupid to do that if it was not an emergency for sure. Stuff like this never happens during business hours of course!
  • @RoseShadow873 I think part of the time my headaches or other discomfort comes from the type of food or heaviness of the food. Hopefully it was sth that didnt agree with you? Hope you talk to your doc/nurse asap!
  • Gross problem here! For the past few weeks, depending on the day I've had bad vaginal itchiness. I've had discharge but at the same time, I'm super dry down there. Aside from being extremely uncomfortable, it makes sex very undesirable. When I looked up these symptoms, the only explanations were STIs or yeast infections and I know I have neither. Am I the only one having this problem?

My forehead is always super dry and itchy! I don't know why it's just in that one area, but it's so annoying. In addition to my regular moisturizer, I put vitamin E cream on it and it seems to help. Also, it seems like everyone swears by coconut oil for itchy skin.

I've had this problem since week 8 and I am week 14 now. I don't have a yeast infection or STI. I don't necessarily have vagunal itchiness but for weeks 9-11 I had discharge and TMI my vagina had a stronger odor. Which I read was normal. And my downstairs playhouse has been so dry.. So very very dry.

Thanks for writing. I was wondering the same thing because it doesnt feel like a yeast infection. Even though i'm using ultrathin pantyliners it's been irritating my skin so I may start bringing an extra pair of undies and a ziplog/plastic bag.

  • Occasionally I have been getting a muscle spasm at the top of my belly, a few inches above my belly button. It is very sudden and "sharp" but not painful...almost like a sharp kick feels later on, but at this point it's not where baby is at.

The few times it has happened it has made me involuntarily grab that spot and say "oh." I am assuming it's just from things stretching out in there, but when I asked my OB about it, she didn't act like this was a common symptom. Is anybody else having anything similar, or am I a freak of nature?

Definately a freak of nature! ;) lol jk
I get a similar "pain" just at the bottom of my left ribs every once in a while, i think its probably not so much of stretching as it is stuff getting squished upwards and just trying to fit in.

My son in my first pregnancy was measuring big the whole time. I ended up having him by csection at 39 weeks and he was 9 lbs 3 oz. I got the same questions from my ultrasound techs. My doctors made me take the gestational diabetes test twice even though I had passed the first time.

I had a lot of extra testing bc he was measuring so big - biweekly stress tests and ultrasounds every other week.

There was nothing wrong with him - he was just a big baby! :)

  • For the past 3 days, I feel like constantly crying.  I know that my hormones are the culprit but is this normal?  All I want to do is cry for hours and hours.  I don't feel depressed or sad. I just enjoy the feeling of crying.  That sounds a little crazy.

I spent most of yesterday crying for some reason. It all started with me feeling embarrassed about something. And then the crying just went on for hours and I seriously did not understand why.

Definitely used cutting onions as an excuse to quiet cry it out after DH told me that my recipe for barbacoa was different from what we get when we go out. Apparently it was barbacoa Mexicano, and we normally get regular barbacoa. It totally didn't matter, but I cried for probably 30 minutes. As long as you aren't feeling depressed, anxious, or having thoughts of hurting yourself you're probably ok, but if you're concerned speak to your OB. I'm generally a big advocate of taking care of things yourself, but antenatal depression is serious business and it's better to be safe than sorry.
  • Hello there,

I am 15 weeks, 3 days today.  I have had awful nausea since 6 weeks. Last week my boss was out of town and said that I could work from home.  I didn't get sick at all!  I felt like a normal person again!  Today I went back into work and the nausea has hit again.  Has this happened to anyone else?

I've found that my symptoms worsen with excessive activity. If I have a particularly busy day, I get more nauseated, more fatigued, and have more RLP. The nausea may be related to eating differently at work - how often are you snacking? Snacking makes all the difference for me.
