The going back to work thread made me wonder what everyone does - whether it's working outside the home or a SAHM.

SAHM. I was in banking prior to my first pregnancy. I took off when I was about 4 months along and haven't worked since. I've considered going back but with the cost of daycare there really aren't any jobs where I live that would be worth it for us.

    Edited for spelling.

I work in marketing, not glamorous but it pays the bills.
  • Currently I'm a nursing student but I graduate this December with my BSN. My first job will most likely be hospice or home health because I have a background in those fields and a few contacts. Within a year or two I want to be a school nurse. I have spent a ton of time doing school nursing through out my education and I love it. Not to mention the perks of holidays, weekends, and summers off!
  • I'm a lawyer. I've been practicing corporate finance and restructuring law for over 9 years.
  • Teacher. I am also going to school right now to get a second masters degree in administration so I can be a principal.

I'm in the Navy. I fly in P-3C orion submarine hunting aircraft.

This sounds so cool!! Are you one of the only (or the only) females? Flying positions in the armed forces seem very male based.
  • @NavyFlyer that's so cool. DH is a C-2 pilot and I'm always impressed by his female squadron mates and how they handle being in such a boys club.

I'm a marine engineer working for a shipyard. Mostly I just keep a bunch of old men from acting like children... I hope to keep working right up to when I give birth, and then post maternity leave and military move stay with the same company, or at least still working in the industry.

  • I am a pastry chef and I have my own home business so I can stay at home with peanut yet still have a small income.
  • I'm an nurse and work in the medical ICU for adults. I will prob cut my hours to part time, I can get full benefits at 20 hours. DH health insurance is blah and mine I have no out of pocket cost.
  • I teach at a university

We recommend 18-24 months. I've heard by their first birthday at another office, and some offices wait till 2. Most important thing to do is brush! Don't let your child dictate that. I see wayyyy too many kids who have bombed out teeth, and we have to take them to the hospital to be put under. Also, watch snacking- limit sticky (fruit snacks, gummy vitamins), juice, and any other drink to meal times/snack time. Push water throughout the day. Sorry for the rambling, I just see some very sad things at work.

Ramble away!! This is such good information!! We don't give him any juice and he drinks tons of water but we're having a helluva time brushing his teeth! This solidifies that we just need to try harder!! Thank you so much!!
  • I am a credit analyst. I wish I didn't have to go back to work when peanut gets here but I'm afraid I'll have no choice.

  • SAHM during the day, dance teacher M-Th afternoon/evenings. I would like to be a high school dance team director but the hours can be tough and my current job offers me more flexibility :) I'm happy the timing of this pregnancy worked out that all my choreographing and harder teaching will be over before I'm huge.
