I'm going in tomorrow morning (10/19). I'm hoping my doctor is right and i will labor quickly. I was at 4 cm and completely effaced on Thursday at my last appointment. I'm a little nervous. I've never had an IV and I've never stayed in the hospital. Good luck to everyone else.

I'm getting nervous for tomorrow! I was showing no progress at my last appointment so that makes me a little worried it won't go real fast. Good luck to you
I'm wide awake as I leave in a few hrs to be induced and am so anxious. My first labor was 28 hrs and 4 hrs of pushing and 42 stitches. Praying that this one is easier but pitocin scares me
Being induced was the last thing I wanted but my water broke 10 days before my due date. I was only 2 cm dilated when I got to the hospital. Because they wanted to comply with my wishes, I waited about 6 hours walking the halls and such before I decided to go with their recommendation to induce using pitocin. It definitely brought on the contractions quickly but hey that's what it's supposed to do. Since my water had broken, there was a risk of infection so induction became necessary. After about an hour or two of increasingly painful contractions, I got the epidural and it was smooth sailing from there. Had a great experience and wouldn't change a thing. I had a vaginal birth. My angel was 7 pounds 1 ounce of perfection :-) Best wishes! Don't stress over it too much. I did but it really wasn't that bad. I've attached a pic of my angel for good measure.
I am 41+5 and having the foley bulb induction today and possibly having my waters broken afterwards depending on what happens very nervous!
Good luck! Come back and let us know your story...I'll likely be about the same timeframe/induction method toward the end of the week when they want to induce me. Praying it happens before then, but no signs yet
I'm going to the hospital tonight at midnight. As of Tuesday I was still 0 dilated and cervix was high. The plan is to do Cervidil and go from there. I'm very nervous considering I'm so closed up. Hoping that in the last week I've dilated SOMETHING so this whole process will go smoothly.
I've been on pitocin for 7 hours. My water just broke. Contractions aren't painful just uncomfortable. Hoping it will go quickly now. Will update later.
I'm in the hospital now. The cervical check was the worst! 40+5, 1cm, 60% effaced. Cervadil went in 1 hr ago. Will keep everyone posted. I hope it goes quickly
Currently in the hospital getting induced! Annoying/bad news- came in still not dilated at all!! I was convinced I was due to bloody discharge all weekend and contractions!
Just took cytotec pill to start contractions... Super nervous of what is to come!
Can I just say that this is going to be a longgggg night/couple of days!
Oh by the way- introduced myself to the new nurse who came in at 5pm by telling her I peed the bed. They had given me a whole bag of IV fluid and my husband sat in a recliner that shot backwards completely and I just lost all control. Way to start off this experience! It's a shame it was not my water breaking!
Went in this morning and had the cervidil put in. I must say that was not a pleasant experience! I kept apologizing to the doctor for being such a baby, and I'm sure I completely tensed up which must have made it worse. I was monitored for 2 hours, then sent home. Home now and have been resting as much as I can in case I go into labour. I want to preserve my energy! As a FTM my biggest worry right now is not having any idea what a contraction feels like. I've been having the worst cramps of my life since I left the hostpital, and a lot of pain in my low back. Is it possible any of this is contractions?? With my baby being estimated at 10 lbs I don't want to risk going back in too late and missing my chance for the epidural!
Looks like I'm going to be induced tomorrow due to high blood pressure. Good luck mamas!
I think you commented on another post about this and you were waiting for results too (I think!). I just got the call that I am being induced tomorrow morning. my labs came back and I have pre-e. I'm so nervous! Good luck to you tomorrow and all the other moms.
Edit: to clarify wording.
Hope everything goes well for you! The induction wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. Didn't even need pitocin.
Oh that is awesome! It was long and a bit tough but totally worth it! I had 3 rounds of misoprostal and pitocin. Those werent enough to make me progress though, so they broke my water too. That got things going almost immediately! From that point is was only about 7 hours from start to finish. I'm glad yours went well!!
Well had my doctors appt today. She swept my membranes and scheduled me for induction on thursday. I'm nervous but I feel it is the right thing to do. I'll be 41+1. Eek!
@JennKempen : I am a FTM and have not yet delivered so I do not have experience with Cytotec. That said, I have heard that Cytotec (misoprostol) is riskier, perhaps significantly riskier, than Cervadil (prostaglandin E2).
One of my midwives directed me to the Childbirth Connection website for information. Towards the bottom of this web page I linked below, they describe the different induction methods and what the best evidence shows results from their use.
@komorebi had posted months ago in a different thread warning about misoprostol. I forget the exact reasons.
I do know that the use of Cytotec to induce labor or soften the cervix is off-label use. In other words it was not studied for that purpose. It was made to treat stomach ulcers; uterine contractions are a side effect. It works faster than Cervadil and can cause uterine rupture. I just did a little research on it. Intetestingly Cervadil is a Category C (may be risks) medicine during pregnancy, but Cytotec is a Category X, meaning it should not be used (there are demonstrated risks).
I don't say any of this on purpose to scare anyone. All I can say is based on what I have read, I would request the use of the foley bulb or Cervadil. I would pay the cost for Cervadil rather than take the risks for Cytotec.
This is really interesting to me. I went into labor on my own with my first but was given cytotec and pitocin after baby was born due a significant bleed they had to get under control. I'm guessing the uterine rupture risk isn't really there or is greatly decreased once baby and placenta are out. The nurses that come in after to mash on you all commented that getting that combo after delivery meant my uterus was pretty much back to normal size immediately.... I didn't even know cytotec was used for induction purposes until recently.....
I was induced last night. They gave me one dose of cytotec around 11:30 pm and around 2 am my water broke on its own and they realized he pooped inside me then at 10 am they tried giving me pitocin but babies heart rate kept dropping because the contractions were too close together and too strong for him to handle therefore they took me off of the pitocin and put and internal monitor in me. I started to push around 11 am and babies heart rate continued to bounce around and after 2 hours of pushing they had to use the vacuum to get him out.
I have to go in today at 5 to start my induction due to pre e. Hoping in the past week I have dilated and effaced some. Last time I was closed and high. Will update when all is said and done.
Being induced tomorrow AM, 39 weeks today. Husband is leaving for work the next morning at 9 am and will be gone for 2 months.... Hopefully he will get to see baby girl before he departs!!!!! Dilated to a 3, second baby should be easy let's hope
In the process of being induced and it hasn't been the greatest experience but could still be worse! Been here since 3:30pm yesterday, almost 100% effaced and 3 cm dilated as of now.
Started cytotec last night at 6pm and was given about 4 doses between 6pm last night and 6am today.
Contractions became strong around 3:30am, but bearable. By 9am they being less bearable and by noon the doctor agreed to give me the epidural. Luckily they agreed to do this before petocin!
Started the petocin this afternoon but haven't made much progress aside from effacement!! Things have been up and down- a few hours back they scared me and said there was chance of c-section due to baby's heart rate dipping after contractions. Luckily it hasn't happened again.
My doctor said that if I do have to be induced that I'm "a good candidate for a foley bulb." Anyone know what being "a good candidate" consists of? The doc made it sound like a breeze in comparison to a pill start, but I've done a small amount of research and am reading both really good and really bad things. Yikes.
@VioletandRose I was induced with a foley bulb last Tuesday night and it was really smooth and a great experience. Bulb was placed at 5 pm, I was nervous about that part but it hurt less than a cervical check, maybe the person who did I was just really skilled but the checks had really sucked for me and this wasn't as bad or at least not worse. The weirdest part is the nurse tugging on it every couple hours. They said it could take up to 10 hours to Coke out, but on the second tug it came out! I'm at FTM and was only 1.5cm/70% going in. The bulb started up contractions on its own for me but when they weren't consistent they decided to start pitocin after an hour. Before they could do that though, my water broke! Really odd feeling. Before they started pitocin, I asked for the epidural but a "waking " dose. I didn't feel the need to feel any more contractions. About 4-5 hours after starting pitocin, I felt a ton of pressure and thought I had to go to the bathroom. The nurse thought they should check me again, earlier then they were planning to, and I had gotten to 9 cm and 90%! It all went so much faster than I was expecting esp being a FTM. I labored down another couple hours while the rest of my cervix thinned and by 5am started pushing, and he was born at 6:18am. Only needed one stitch.
Currently in the hospital being induced. Started the cytotec about an hour ago. Will be checked every four hours. Got here and was 50% effaced and still only a fingertip dilated. The resident is a large dude and has bear paws for hands, so being checked hasn't been pleasant. I've never stayed in the hospital overnight before. I'm dreading trying to sleep..
well today is my due date and little boy doesn't look like he wants to make an appearance on his own! I'm getting induced the 27th. I am only 1cm dilated and have an unfavorable cervix. Super nervous about the induction process!!!
If anyone has been induced and delivered without an epidural, please share your stories! I know there was another thread on this but can't seem to find it. I am scheduled to be induced on Saturday and I would like to hold off on the epidural if I can. However, I'm not against it if necessary. I just want to know if anyone has any experiences going pain med-free after being induced. Thanks in advance for your tips/stories!
Getting induced right now! Started pitocin about 2 hours ago. So far contractions are very manageable with no meds but I'm sure that will all change as this really gets going! I just wanna meet this little guy!!!!
Well the cytotec failed. 2 rounds and no progress. Started pitocin about an hour and a half ago. Managing the contractions well with just moving around and breathing but I have no idea if it's working with dilating me yet. So far, this has not been a pleasant experience...
I'm on the list to be induced on the 28th. I'm a little nervous but there is still a time left to go on my own. Staying positive and going with the flow! This thread is super helpful!! Thanks Ladies!!
I'm scheduled to be induced this Sunday night. I'll be 40 Weeks & 6 days. My doctor thinks it could be a two-day induction process because as of yesterday I have not made any progress. (Soft cervix, but zero dilation) I go back to the doctor one more time tomorrow to see if anything has changed, but I doubt it. I haven't had any signs. Reading everyone's posts on this board is making me feel a little better. I'm getting nervous about being induced... but I know I need to be ready for anything! Good luck ladies!
I was induced at 41+1 and had been dilated 3cm for 2 weeks with no contractions. They started me on Pitocin at 7:00am and they broke my water... contractions started and I asked for an epidural around noon. We started pushing at 5pm but baby had turned her head to the side and I was unable to push her all the way out so a vacuum was used to help her out! She was born 7:32pm and is 8.7lbs! The vacuum left a small bruised spot on her head that is already gone today (her 3rd day).
This thread is certainly comforting. I'm grateful for all of you ladies that are willing to share your experiences. It's been like having a huge group of friends that are all pregnant at the same time going through the same things. It's great to have people that can relate I am 40 weeks, 2 days. Going to a final appointment with cervical check and NST next Tuesday (provided baby girl doesnt make an appearance before that on her own), then if no cervical progress, the OB wants to induce Wednesday (41 weeks exactly). I'm not going to lie, induction makes me VERY nervous. My labor with my son 4 years ago was a breeze, and he came early on his own 2 days early. I check this thread everyday for new stories. Thanks again, girls!! :-D
I'm being induced tomorrow night, and this thread has really helped get a picture of different scenarios to expect. I'm not too nervous at this point, just eager to be done.
I came in wed night at 5 pm to get cervadil and started pitocin the next morning. Cervadil didn't do a lot for me and being on pit for 12 hours only got me to 2 cms. (I was one when I came in.) After stopping pitocin I ate and showered and they gave me cytotec and broke my water at 3 am. I finally had my baby boy at 9:22 pm Friday. Nearly 48 hours of labor with no epidural. I feel like I got beat worth a train but it was worth it!
