Braxton hicks

I'm 30 week and been having a lot of Braxton hick contractions. I went in to the doctors to be monitored yesterday and everything was fine but every time I stand or move around I have them all the time and they slow down to under the six per hour when I'm resting. I've been drinking a lot of water and resting like they said to but It doesn't seem to help once I'm active again. Is anyone else having this problem?

Re: Braxton hicks

  • I'm getting a lot more this time but my doctor said just to rest and stay hydrated and don't worry unless they get more frequent or stronger.
I can def tell the difference between that and what a contraction felt like with my DS1 so I'm not too worried :)
I would just keep tracking and talk to your doctor again if you are still concerned.

  • I also have been having them since 20 weeks and spoke to my doctor and he says its normal. As long as you have been seen by your doctor and monitor them, you shouldn't worry too much.
  • I'm also 30 weeks and having crazy braxton hicks!  It happens so often it had me concerned but the doctor thinks its fine.  They have also been even more intense than my first pregnancy.  I guess the idea is that if it doesn't turn into contractions then we are fine.

  • I get them a lot.  I haven't gone in for it yet because I know the difference between BH and real contractions.  My OB said they can treat them with drugs if they are very persistent, but otherwise, rest and hydrate.  Monitor for any leakage or pain and don't be afraid to go in or call for advice.

I do time them using a contraction timer just to keep track of how many per hour.  With my 2nd kid at about 32-34w I was getting as many as 10 per hour, then I'd fall asleep and they would not wake me up - so I knew it was just the pesky BH.

If you are concerned - go back in or call the doc.  Better safe than sorry.

  • Have crazy braxton hicks at 30 weeks and have been having them since about 25 weeks. Lots of rest, slow walking and staying hydrated. Ben with that some nights I can headly walk. Everything is going well with pregnancy and here's hoping for another quick delivery!
