It would drive me crazy but I'd probably keep my yap shut. Sounds like she is just excited and means well. Life's too short to dwell on silly things like this. Could be worse.
Eh, don't sweat it, she's excited and that's nice. It'll calm down... and if it doesn't, ask her how much per month she's planning to contribute to "her baby's" college savings fund.
My mil has told me that if its twins (which it's not) she will "take one". Really? Going to take one of my babies?!?!
Also she wants a baby with curls. I believe her exact words were "I am ok with either a boy or a girl, but I would like a baby with curly hair". Sureee, I'll get right on that.
Hi! I call my niece and nephews my babies! Because I love them SO much like my own because they are my blood. I am well aware they are not my babies and not trying to steal them in anyway lol. It's just like an affection thing. I don't think you should make a big deal about it, she's maybe just trying to say it out of affection and love.
I do understand why the "my baby" thing is annoying you but I agree with PP that it is probably best if you let it go, for your own sanity more than to protect your MILs feelings. I really don't think it is worth so much emotional energy, you've got way more important concerns right now. If you need to get some space from her for a while, do that but I wouldn't confront her. She is just excited and expressing her joy/love/excitement in her own, albeit obnoxious, way. I would find away to rebut her eating comments in a jovial way, you can send the message that her input in that area is unnecessary and unwelcome without a big argument.
Good luck! Try not to let it get to you, remember the big picture!
My FIL did the "Our child" thing once, and I quickly told him that the decision was between me and his son (my H)... A friend of mine from church asked me how was "her baby" was doing... It irked me, but I just got over it and let it go. *Everyone* is excited for a new baby and I'm happy everyone loves my little girl. I know there may be things or times where I have to put my foot down with either my mom or MIL once the baby arrives... Or maybe not? I'll find out and pray for the best! I'm thankful they want to be around and to help...
