4yo has a peanut allergy but we kinda hated his allergist. We finally drove to Omaha to have an appointment with a pediatric allergist at the children's hospital last week. He was awesome, and did a blood test instead of a skin test like the other allergist. The results are in and the nurse said they are "practically negative". Next is a series of in office peanut tastings to see if his system can handle peanuts and I can stop worrying about him being the sad kid alone at the peanut-free table slash going into anaphylactic shock.
Unbelievably grateful for the guardian angel clearly watching over myself and my LO. Over the weekend there was a horrible accident at the major insersection right outside my neighborhood. I was running 10 minutes late that morning otherwise I would've been at that exact spot when the accident occurred. An elderly woman mistook the gas pedal for the brakes and caused a pile up of cars who'd been stopped at the red light. The first car she hit going 50 miles an hour had an infant about my daughters age in the backseat. He and his father were killed; mother is in critical condition. I cannot get the images of the accident out of my head. I just keep thanking God that we were running late that morning.
I'm grateful for beautiful simple moments like the one I had today with one of my hospice patients. We are having unseasonably beautiful weather so we went outside to a lake & fed the ducks, felt the sunshine & breeze & watched & listened to all the nature around us. Her & I both agreed it is a blessing to be able to make it outside even when your body is failing. My job definitely makes me appreciate the little things.
@lovethatcolosun, @KarasTwin , @ciennah99 I spent the whole weekend very emotional and praying all day. I just can't get over how very easily it could've been my family taken from me so suddenly. In addition to being heartbroken for the family, I'm also heartbroken for the woman who caused the accident. It wasn't a careless driving situation, it was just a confused old woman who will bear the weight of this tragedy for the rest of her life.
So many things to be grateful for today. First, Toby is on new meds for his arthritis and nerve pain and is doing so much better. He can climb the stairs without whining and barking at the bottom. To his credit they are really steep stairs and I think he's just giving himself a pep talk. Glad he's not in as much pain. It sucks getting old. Second, I made my first successful trip to the grocery store with both kids and surrendered to those God forsaken "car carts" that haven't been cleaned in six years and drive like crap and LO in the baby Bjorne. I even threw in a pony ride for the tot for being such a well behaved toddler. I came home and unloaded groceries and DH arrived shortly after to give me break, which I chose to spend taking a 2 hour nap. It was a good day.
I'm grateful tonight for a minor car accident not being more serious. A lady backed into us at an intersection. Thankfully it was low speed and involved the front of the car and wasn't anywhere near my little man. No injuries. It hurts my heart to hear of the other accident I don't know what I would do if that was us in that situation.
Also thankful that Canada has a new political party tonight! Woohoo for Trudeau! (Sorry not wanting to create a big political thing here - this is just something I'm particularly thankful for as well as I hope that it means a better future for all).

I still have not braved the grocery store with both kids alone nor have I been able to give up those damn car carts. But the Hy-Vee by us has a free pony ride, which can be a godsend to get the boy into a cart under his own volition.

I know! I keep switching between relief that I might not have to worry about him dying at a friend's house or something and excitement that next year we might get to buy the GOOD Halloween candy. And moose tracks ice cream!! It's been so long!
My brother just returned home safely from an 8 month long deployment in Afghanistan!!! He was reunited with my sister-in-law and niece, whom he hasn't been able to hold since she was 4 weeks old (I can't even imagine...)! So thankful that God protected him and his family through that time.

Sometimes when one thing after another goes wrong, there is truly nothing left to do but laugh and appreciate what I DO have!
This weekend was a long weekend my family planned as a gift for my dad to get away. He takes care of my mom every moment of every day with her advanced Alzheimer's. He never complains. Friday morning DH, my brother, and dad flew to Texas for the F1 race (their weekend majorly ruined by the hurricane) and my sister and I were going to hang with mom. Friday, I got hit with a major fever, sore throat among about 10 other symptoms. No energy and one else to help with LO (3 out of 3 best friends are pregnant and I wouldn't want to expose them). Saturday morning went to minute clinic - negative strep test. Have to wait until Monday to see doctor, meanwhile my throat is truly nearly swelling shut. I ruined plans each day as I had to drop out of things with my mom and sister, but I kept caring for LO, practically showering in sanitizer each time I looked at her. Mom was also having a very hard time and couldn't understand where dad was...heartbreaking. Fast forward to today - doctor practically screamed when she saw my throat. Got a steroid and an another shot in my butt and a few prescriptions. Still see no improvement. Oh, and my period started today. They are horrible. DH gets home at 10:00 and I've never been more excited to see someone. I know he is dying to be here!
The point of all this is that I learned, once again, that as a mommy our bodies can truly do amazing things to still take care of these LOs. Something much more powerful than adrenaline gets us through.I thought it was going to be impossible to do what I needed to do for that long and now I'm at the finish line. Shout out to LO, too. She is a complete doll and was so patient and good all weekend. It brought me to tears. She's just so sweet. If you ever have a rough patch like this, just remember you're a mom - and moms have superpowers!!

Well I'm only like 3 weeks late responding... @KarasTwin I went to Emory. Looooove Atlanta so much but after grad school I landed in Phoenix. Ugh I'm getting jealous just thinking of fall in ATL right now. I hope I don't have to wait til LO goes to college to go back. Cause yeah, my heart's set on him going to Emory since he was just a little tiny belly monster. Legacy admission FTW!
@klirwin82 my aunt went to nursing school at Emory. It's a great school! You're not missing much as far as fall goes, we were in the 80s last week, now it's in the fifties and raining like mad.
Slightly annoyed with Jet. I ordered a car seat cover thru them and got an email on the 18th saying it had shipped and would arrive in 2-5 business days. Had a tracking # and everything. But when I went to track it, it looks like the carrier hasn't received the package. But I waited a full 7 business days before I emailed them about it, and all I got was an email basically saying 'sorry and we understand your frustration. Once we get tracking info we'll send it to you'. So, basically 1) you didn't read in my email when I said I had tried tracking it already and its not going anywhere and 2) you didn't bother to pull up the order and see that a tracking # has already been assigned and its useless and 3) since you didn't take step 2 you couldn't take step 3, which would be to contact the carrier and see if they did, in fact, get the package. Just send me some stock reply and hope I'll go away. Well, I waited until today (10 business days from when they told me it would arrive in 2-5), just in case it for some reason showed up late, and I sent them another email saying 'that's very nice, but you basically ignored my questions. What's going on with my order?' Not annoyed my item is late, stuff happens, annoyed that they basically ignored my inquiry

They went ahead and refunded my $ but told me while its *possible* the item may still arrive, they would recommend that if I really want to ensure I get the item I should order it again. So I go to order it again today, and it's MUCH cheaper. The first time I ordered it, it was $31 (tho I had a promo code for 20% off or something, so that brought it to $25). I just now ordered it again for $14. Also, as a side note, I was able to buy the same exersaucer I had been eyeing on Amazon for pretty much the same price (a dollar cheaper). The cover getting lost was a good thing!
Also grateful that DH found on our local fb rummage page someone selling boys clothes. For $60 I got 80+ pieces of clothing in the 6m and 6-9m sizes, and all season appropriate. Carters, Oshkosh, some Disney, a few Harley Davidson items. Pants, long sleeved shirts, sleepers. Even a little Santa hat with a red thermal onesie. Unless I see something specific I want, I probably don't need any more clothes for him at all until it begins to get warm again. :-bd

@messymolly08 oh yeah girl, I'm a miser over here. Since we live away from family and just moved to where we now live, I didn't get a shower. The cost of everything was on us. You can damn well believe I wasn't paying $20 an outfit for something he would only wear 3m or so. Fb rummage page, local consignment and thrift stores, garage sales are all my bag for clothes. I do allow myself to spend $10 on him (toys or clothes) anytime I go to target to buy formula or diapers tho, so he does get some new clothes, if its something I find really adoreable. The clearance rack, too. I look there all the time
I'm grateful for having such a wonderful baby. Love all of his smiles and laughs. Also grateful for my amazing SO who is working his but off so I can finish school without having to work. Also so grateful for the newest addition to our family! My twin sister just had her sweet little guy on the 2nd of this month . Ezra and Kai are 5 months apart and are best friend already!
LO has been acting off for a few days now to the point where i was getting really worried and took him to the doctor today. I am grateful that everything checked out normal and he is not sick. His behaviors indicate that he needed his reflux meds to be upped (better than a sick baby). So, we will see if things improve - but I feel a lot better knowing why he has been acting so strange
