Speaking of the dentist, he wants to take out one of my wisdom teeth. Has anyone else had one removed? Will I need help with the kids the next day?
My husband had all 4 of his out with only local anesthesia (they did not put him under) while at boot camp, and he was back at pushing the deck and running and classroom time the next day. His mouth hurt, yeah, but you can still do all normal stuff so they expected him to do it
Your mouth will likely be sore, and there will probably be some swelling, but you should be able to take care of your kids. It would just be REALLY nice if you could have someone help you that day. If you have family nearby that would be a good day to call in a favor. Or, if you use a daycare every now and then, that day would be a good day to bring them to daycare while you just go home and relax. So, you don't NEED it, but you probably will want it.

I had all four out and my whole face swelled up and was bruised for a week. It was like the Walking Dead. Mine were impacted. Since you're only having one removed, I'm sure it will be a lot easier! Maybe have someone on standby just in case though?
So my kid actually slept pretty good in his crib last night because he figured out how to roll to his side and that's how he likes to sleep, apparently.
I got all four wisdom teeth out but they were impacted so it was more surgery than yanking. I was out of work for 3 days and on major painkillers. I don't remember much of it at all but DH certainly does!
So really this will all depend on what type of removal of the teeth is happening. Good luck!
Ok, thanks for all the wisdom teeth advice. It's fully emerged, just at a bad angle so hopefully it will be ok. Usually my mil is my childcare when I need but she's out of commission with back problems right now. Pain I think I can handle and I assume I won't be getting any really good drugs since I breastfeed anyway. I can always bring the crew to her house and we can both sort of 50% take care of them and hope it works out. Worst case, DH will stay home. That's one downside of having a SAHP, one person's sick days have to cover two people.

Not that my kid sleeps well, but he sleeps waaaay better on his side. Second best is back. He hates being on his belly (except for the one-off time I posted that, and an hour later he would only sleep on his belly, lol!)

@amccoy129 my dude will just fall asleep like that on the couch in the evening. I'll be eating dinner and looking over at him between bites, and one time I'll just look over and he's sprawled and out. Its so funny
We have most things working right now, except this... We don't eat dinner until LO goes to sleep at 7:30.
I need tips!
It ends up being at about 730. Technically I could put LO to bed and then eat, but a lot of times I try to time my dinner to finish in the oven right after I feed LO. And I don't want to put him straight to bed directly after a meal, so I sit him next to me on the couch propped in the boppy and talk to him while I eat. If he is still awake when I am done, then we both go to bed then (not good for my metabolism to eat and then go directly to bed, I know, but I'm usually pretty wiped). If he has fallen asleep while I am eating, then I might hang out a little longer just in case enough time passes to give LO a small meal before I go to bed (even then, after he eats we hang out in the bedroom and talk to each other for a while, then I read to him)

I make fast meals. Put LO's activity mat in the kitchen or hang her door jumper from the doorway. She hangs out while I cook. Then we put her in the high chair at the table with a toy while we eat. I inhale my food so I'm ready when she starts fussing. :@)
We eat sitting on the floor by LO's bouncy chair thing. He's super happy as we make exaggerated yum yum yum sounds while eating. Hopefully this paves the way for successful BLW
@hoodoll82 we pretty much do what @Sjeff0816 does. She sits in her bumbo or on her play mat while I cook. Sometimes I prep during the day when she naps so all I have to do is cook. During dinner she is in her high chair watching us, or sitting on one of our laps if she's fussy.
My baby has forgotten how to nap he will now only go down if I nurse him upright on the boppy and then sit there holding him.... Sigh. Otherwise he freaks out and looks miserable until he finally just randomly passes out at some point later in the day. He also randomly woke up on the hour last night.
@beckyk9109 that's too cute. Our little guy has always fought sleep. I'm terrified to type this because I don't want to jinx it, but lately he's been falling asleep so easily.
Today for lo's nap at 11:15 we left her just in her pjs. We have been swaddling. She slept 2 hours! Of course it was the day we had plans to go get pumpkins but so happy she took a good nap. The next nap was only 30 minutes so i don't think it makes a difference for her swaddled or not.
I haven't gotten my hospital bill for LO's birth yet. Normal? I got one earlier on for LO's charges but I can see my EOB's on my insurance website and I know there are more coming. Takes forever apparently...
We paid before we left, but keep getting bills for random charges. Just got one last week for an additional $1,000! Not cool. We just got the midwife bill a couple weeks ago.

Hospital bills are ridiculously inflated to say the least. We are up to our noses in bills and found out after the baby that our insurance doesn't cover sh*t. They cover the discount they have with the hospital. And currently are denying our claims for coordination of benefits -- they, for whatever reason, thought we had two insurances? Anyways, we haven't paid any of our bills because a) they are absurd (on the upwards of 60k for a medication free birth) and b) the insurance needs to reprocess the claims without this record of me having some "mythical" outside insurance. With that said, the hospital has already "discounted" our bill for lack of payment. I figure if we keep on not paying them, maybe they can reduce the bill to a number we can afford. Needless to say, we want a home birth for our next if we can. Hospitals and doctor fees are outta control and having insurance isn't helping us at all.
We finally got our nicu bill last week. Baby girl was born memorial day and I had called the hospital back in Sept for lack of bills and insurance still hadn't decided what they would pay on it. What's worse is my insurance would have paid for everything if it was a normal hospital stay but since nicu they treated her as a separate deductible and out of pocket.

That is outrageous. Disgusting. Can you fight it? Ugh, I'm so sorry. Absolutely ridiculous.
@rklinge0 soo frustrating!! Our baby was in the NICU too. Only for a day, but still..I'm sure that's the bulk of what we owe. Our insurance pulled the same "per occurrence" crap on us too. DH and I look at the bills we have received and laugh at the ridiculous rates! We could have stayed at the four seasons in a pent house suite for the thousands of dollars they charged us for a room (that didn't even have its own shower btw)! Also, not sure if this happens to everyone, but we have been getting billed twice for everything (once by the hospital and once by the physician). I'm surprised that we don't get billed for the nurses too- they did most of the heavy lifting anyway! Anyways...insurance is useless. I've found by calling the hospital and talking to their staff, they will negotiate we are just waiting for the insurance to finish reprocessing everything and I'm sure they are in no hurry! Good luck!!

Our insurance did the same thing...LO was a separate deductible so we had to pay a ton of money. 10 days in the NICU added up real quick. I keep reminding myself that he's worth every penny....and that he's too little to remember that Santa is still paying off bills which is why he isn't bringing a ton of presents this year, haha.
@awolff the hospital charged insurance 25000 and the doctors were over 5000. What made it all worse was we got a bill for the peditrician on call that charged us 500 just to look at her and say " I think the baby has downs" nah sh** I see that too. ( not trying to sound like a bitch but it just seemed ridiculous what the dr would charge just to look at her for 2 minutes ).
To go along with the hospital/doctor bills... I haven't gotten our l&d bill yet, but whenever I had an ultrasound for my twins, we were billed for 2 ultrasounds even though it was obviously just 1, in one day. Maybe I'm crazy, but I find that to be ridiculous!
@rklinge0 wow. Stuff like that makes me so mad. Insurance is supposed to be what stuff like NICU stays are for! Maybe some of you remember the Chris Rock skit (or maybe not, cause I'm old) about insurance? He called it 'in case shit' as in 'in case shit happens'. A NICU stay definitely qualifies, and for insurance not to pay.... Grrr... I'm just so mad right now ~X(
@rklinge0 don't even get me started on the follow up visit! They suspected a heart defect at our 20wk ultrasound when I was pregnant so we were in the NICU until the specialist could take a look. The specialist told us that the heart defect they originally suspected wasn't there, but they couldn't rule out a vsd- whatever the hell that means...I feel like either there is or isn't a hole in my baby's heart, but whatever. We had to go to a follow up, get an EKG and X-ray. We waited 2 hours just for the specialist to come in, ask us what we have been told so far and then confirm it and leave. He reviewed nothing and gave us no new info and he also told us we have to go back. We get charged 600 in addition to everything else they billed just for being a new patient. It's hard enough adjusting to new mom life without adding a bunch of doctor's visits to it. I'm sorry to see this is happening to others too :-( like I said before, we are going to negotiate fees with the hospital. The prices are almost always inflated and they have been pretty good at reducing them when they find out the insurance isn't paying the bill. We are currently working on getting an itemized bill from them and going from there. It's the last way I want to be spending my time, but if it saves us money, I'm all for it!! Really wish someone would have told me that it was going to be this expensive. Totally worth it, but man! Canada is looking better by the minute! Hah that or maybe it's time to own a health insurance company (with the money we are paying for medical bills, maybe we could afford it). Clearly, I'm in the wrong business.

Without insurance mine would have been $25,000 for a medicated vaginal delivery. 60K is ridiculous. The epidural was another 5K but we owed like $600 if I remember correctly. It was worth every penny. I did see they charged us like $300 each time LO went to the nursery (3 times total) and one was because the lady couldn't get her hearing equipment to work in the room which wasn't my fault! We joked that at least we had a pretty view of downtown for the price.
@jesshrou hah yeah at least you guys had a view! Even then, I feel like having a baby should be made much more luxurious than it is for what they charge! $300 to go into the nursery- they shoulda let you guys leave with a crib! Lol.
It makes me sick that all these things I'm reading were not covered for you all, I didn't have to pay a thing, if you have insurance that's how it should be! Covered ..lame
I have to add... What's worse if you didn't have insurance and were on medi-cal, they don't have to pay a thing... We have regulars that come to ER on a weekly basis... No job, drug seeking, but everything is covered. Then hard working people who pay into insurance , get stuck with fat bills because certain things aren't covered? What's wrong with this picture
