Is anyone else afraid to have sex now that they are pregnant?

Im 5 weeks 4 days. I had a MC in July at 5 weeks 1 day. Husband and I had sex the night before MC started. Doctor said in no way could the MC be due to sexual relations. However this time around, I found out at 3 weeks that I was pregnant and have been nervous to carry on with sexual relations in fear something may happen and forever blaming myself. Anyone else feel this way?

  • Once I'm KU, he ain't coming near until second trimester. And then he starts to get weird about it. He tried last night and I turned him straight down. Nope nope nope.

  • As a general rule I don't avoid it. However, I had some light spotting today and because I am paranoid as crap we will probably hold off on relations for a few days.

  • My husband was doing some googling himself yesterday and texted me during the day saying that we shouldn't be having sex until I'm safely out of my first trimester. I couldn't believe that A. He would agree to this and B. That it wouldn't be safe to continue having sex during pregnancy? I asked him what kind of research he found and he said that a woman's orgasms cause contractions....which, does make sense...but man is this going to be a long couple more months! :(

  • Only a little.  But only because with my 1st pregnancy I was diagnosed with placenta previa and couldn't have sex until my 2nd trimester.

That is definitely not true.  At least not the kind that cause a baby to come out!

I have never worried about it at all.  Even when I was a week overdue sex didn't make anything happen.  Sadly.

I'm glad to hear that....I'm definitely afraid to do anything that would jeopardize this baby but I don't think I could go another at least eight weeks without sex with my husband. I don't really think that would be healthy to do either, relationship wise? He sent me the link of where he got the information...but I never checked it out. I guess I could have also always called my OB and confirmed but I'm sure they would tell me the same thing you all have been saying, that it's ludicrous. Thanks! :)

  • No fear here. Also zero interest.
  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE pregnancy sex. While I can understand your hesitation there is absolutely no way sex contributed to your miscarriage. <3

  • We did an FET so our rules are a little different and are probably just overly cautious, but after what we went through to get baby to 4 weeks, I'm not taking any chances! We were told to abstain until they can detect fetal heartbeat, which for us will be around 6 weeks, so it's not too bad :)
  • Zero sex drive sadly.  Total opposite of 4 weeks ago when we were in the FW.  We did do it 2 days ago with him on top and I won't do that again.  It wasn't painful, just uncomfortable because I just feel sore in my pelvic area from the on and off cramping.  Told him I would make up for it with really good BJ's.

  • I would if I was in the mood... Ever. I'm just so tried and nauseated that I'm just not interested.

That said, I'm so exhausted from our 11 tried that I'm kind of happy to have a break
  • Not even interested. I feel bleh
  • Not afraid... Just not interested.

  • It's totally safe but I'm totally not interested. I'm soooo tired and my pelvis is sore, it just doesn't sound fun to me. Especially without my old pal Cabernet.
This times a thousand. Wine is my foreplay.
  • Pregnancy sex is the BEST! (before you get huge anyway) It's just getting up the energy to want to is the problem lol.
  • No fear, but zero drive over here. I just finished BFing a month ago, and I was so ready to have a sex drive again. Ha- MS did away with that. I am so excited for sex after the 1st trimester though- ohmyword, that was the best sex of my life last time.

  • Don't even wanna think about it. I feel too much like crap to get it on!
  • Nervous and not interested. Which is great because apparently knocking me up turns DH on. He's been begging.

  • Me! I want too, buI we did it one time and I was so nervous it wasn't enjoyable lol
  • My cramping is so annoying the idea of having sex is a definite no. Though I am wishing I was more in the mood. Hoping another couple weeks I will feel better.
  • No fear and I'll all about it despite nausea.  Guess I'm in the minority....its a fun minority though... ya'll come join.  ;)
  • Not nervous, and it would be sooo hard to wait until second tri! It was hard enough to wait the six weeks after I had my first baby, and I felt a lot worse then than I do now.

  • I'm reluctant because I was either so sick last pregnancy or I had low-lying placenta until around 34 weeks. I'm also scared to bleed (I'm Rh-negative) and afraid it will exacerbate my anxiety.

  • I've had the flu all week and DH is out of the country so hasn't been an issue. Either way I'm the one that initiates it 90% of the time - DH is not normal, haha - so I'm sure if I abstain for whatever reason he won't notice hahaha. Usually I'm the one begging. As it was he kept saying I was using him every month during FW, because I kept insisting on ED.

    I don't think I'm afraid though. Everything I've read says it's safe.
Right now with the flu, cramps and bloating - yeah no.

Call your OB though. He/She will have the expert answer to reassure you one way or another.

  • I am a bit fearful about it, so I will wait until I have reached my second trimester for sex.

Sex does not cause miscarriage, most of the time it's chromosonal abnormalities and there is nothing that can be done unfortunately. Unless your doctor states its unsafe for some reason like infection placenta previa etc.

Lurk and use the search function. There is alot of great information from previous bmbs

I'm no afraid but I'm SO tired at the end of the day, and mornings are a no go because I work so early.

As @FutureMrsCAF said, no wine doesn't help!

My husband is turned on by me being pregnant too @cjt121413! I seriously don't understand what is sexy about a hungry, tired woman in sweats. But hey, I'll count my blessings!

  • Yes, I'm totally with you!!!! I'm TERRIFIED of hurting or losing this baby that I don't want to do it at all!!!!! I tend to over think things anyway. I'm also scared to strain hard when I poop. So stupid. But I totally understand what you're thinking. It freaks me out too!!!
  • I feel totally ok with having sex, H on the other is so against it. He is worried something will happen and also kind of freaked out by the thought. Boys :P We go to the dr a week from tomorrow for our first appt, so I am definitely bringing up that question so he can hear that it is totally fine! There is no way I can go 9 months!!! He couldn't either when it came down to it I'm sure, but he's holding strong now! Lol
  • Afraid? No. Interested? No....
As attractive as my bloated belly would be to my H all I want is  I-) I-) I-) Looking forward to the 2nd trimester when my good hormones take over  ;)

  • I was a little reluctant due to a miscarriage close after sex last time. My OB assured me they weren't related, so I definitely will not be holding off! 9 months is far too long! :)

Very excited for all of you girls saying 2nd trimester sex is amazing! Something to look forward to after all this EXHAUSTION!!! ;)
