  • Yes, get the shot. I'm still struggling to find a pharmacy that'll give me a shot.
I guess pharmacies are scared of liability issues once they hear the woman is preggo. That's what my doc said. Hmph!
  • Got mine today at my OB checkup.

When is your next prenatal appointment? Your doctor should have the shots on hand and can give you one.

I get them free at work and when I was pregnant last year the first nurse tried to tell me I couldn't get it so i fought her on it, bc my doctor specifically told me to get it, and the head nurse finally said it was fine and to give me the preservative free version (though both versions have been proven safe).

Your OB sometimes will do it. I went to Patient First but any of those CVS or Walgreens clinics, urgent care, etc will have it. I told them I was pregnant and the nurse asked if I cleared it with my doctor and I said, yes she told me to get it done. Then that was it, like another PP said pregnant should definitely get it unless you had an allergy to the shot.

  • My dr said not to get the flu shot until second trimester.  If you really want to get it now, maybe look for the thimerosol free version (no mercury). You can get it at CVS.
  • Just got my preservative free shot in my first trimester.
  • Got mine yesterday at my OB appointment.
  • The CDC website says to get it but not before 14 weeks. I wanted to go now. Anyone know why they say to wait?
  • Got mine today at four weeks, wish I could have waited a few more weeks. I work in a hospital and they force me :(

Check out this website from the CDC. In the middle of the page, it says it is safe to get the flu shot during any trimester. https://www.cdc.gov/features/pregnancyandflu/
  • Thanks!!!!
  • Please please please get it!

  • Walgreens just told me they won't do it this early :( I guess they only do it before 14 weeks if it's necessary like for healthcare workers.
  • Yes get it.  I can't and depend on herd immunity.
  • Target will do it.. and I am pretty sure it's free with insurance.

I'm sorry there are so many ignorant people who put your health at risk.

My husband can't get it either. People don't realize that when they don't, it could kill him.
  • I got mine at 8 weeks my ob gave it to me during my appointment so I'm sure it's safe. Everything I have read says its safe at any time during pregnancy and highly recommended

Please get the vaccine; you are at increased risk of complications if you contract the flu. I got mine at 6 weeks with DS, per my OB and GP's recommendations, and everything was fine with him.

ETA that I also work in a school, so I don't mess around when it comes to flu shots.

  • Yes! I was given mine at my first prenatal appointment at 5 weeks. I assume the risks of the flu are worse than the risks of the flu shot in first trimester.
  • I got mine today at 7 weeks - I had to wait until my bronchitis went away (a miserable, miserable 2 weeks!!)
  • The CDC website says to get it but not before 14 weeks. I wanted to go now. Anyone know why they say to wait?

Was just about to post the same thing.  Glad someone beat me to it!

  • Honestly, do your research. A lot of research. The flu shot is incredibly ineffective, but a great way to lower your immune system as it recovers from all the toxins you just injected into your body. Ever wonder why so many people get sick after getting the flu shot? It is not a live virus, so that cannot make you sick, but your immune system is still lowered after it, thus making it easier for you to get sick with whatever. On top of that, the flu shot is a best guess shot. It was under 19% effective last year. Not to mention, the vaccine insert lists quite a few reported adverse reactions. I do not get it for these reasons and so many more. It's nothing I want in me or my baby. Make an informed decision. Please research the risks, and don't jump on getting it just because ladies on a message board told you to. Likewise, don't skip out on getting it because you hear someone say it's bad. Do your research before you stick something into your body and know 100% that you are okay with it, because it can't be undone.

Do your research? How about I trust the research SCIENTISTS who actually do scientific research and not Google "vaccines and toxins."

The scientists who do the studies funded by vaccine manufacturers? Nope.

Are news stories like this faked too? Are the journalists also getting paid for vaccines?

    Wow. It's a giant conspiracy.

    Ugh the conspiracy theorists!!!
Seriously. Adverse reactions mean they occurred during the study but may or may not be related to the vaccine (as the insert says). One drug included fracturing of the leg in the adverse events section because someone was in a car accident and broke their leg during the study and they were legally required to include it. Side effects are actually linked to the drug.

Lasts years flu vaccine was 20% effective. Women have a 20% chance of getting pregnant every cycle and get people successfully have that happen all the time. Sure some people get the shot and get a flu strain they aren't protected against. Some people are protected and that's what matters. The flu can cause serious issues in a pregnant woman. I'm terrified of needles so I haven't gotten mine for the last few years (didn't qualify for the nasal one for various reasons), but I intend to get mine this year for the health of my baby.

Vaccines have chemicals in them, sure. You know what else has chemicals? EVERYTHING. Take your pseudoscience fearmongoering on nonsense elsewhere please, it is not wanted here.

They told me to wait until 14 weeks too.... Some people don't have that option and need to get it. Since I did, I waited the extra two weeks. If anyone has allergies to drugs like neosporin, they can give you a shot without erythromycin in it. My mom is severely allergic and had to do that. If you go somewhere other than your OB office, let them know you're pregnant so they can give you the preservative free shot!

Also, I agree about the risks of the shot outweighing the risks of getting the flu. But not everyone feels the same and they're entitled to make their own opinions and decisions. Doesn't mean they're stupid or fearmongering. This is supposed to be a board for support not arguing and defensiveness
