Anyone use their baby carrier yet? If so what kind do you have?

Been dying to use my ergo baby 360 carrier. Just seems like the day goes by so quickly and I don't get to use it. That is my goal today! Curious how babies are liking being carried. DD is 4+ weeks now.

  • I have been using my ergo with infant insert since DD was 3 weeks (5 weeks now). She protests for a minute and then out like a light. I do wish I had a ktan or other soft wrap though. The carrier plus insert equaled mom and baby sweatiness on our walk yesterday.

  • I have been using my Ergo. I didn't buy the infant insert. I watched a couple of videos on how to roll a receiving blanket up and put in the bottom. Works perfect.
  • I used my gauze wrap in the hospital for skin to skin, and my ring sling at 3 days old to run to the store. I can't carry the bucket car seat, so I use the ring sling anytime I'm out. My wraps get used mostly around the house, though when I'm out with both kids, the wrap is more hands free for wrangling the toddler (I tie it before I leave the house, pop baby in when I get there). Haven't taken out any of my other carriers yet (k'tan, pouch sling, SSC).

I've used my moby quite a bit. I use it to grocery shop so there is room in the cart for food and to take DD1 on bike rides. It is really nice and DD2 usually falls asleep pretty quickly in it. She is 2 weeks and 5 days today. I've been using it for at least a week. I'm using it to take DD1 on a field trip to the cider mill with preschool tomorrow so hopefully it works out for that too!

  • I've been using my Moby the most. I also have a ring sling but I'm more used to the Moby so it's easier to get babe in and out for stuff just around the house.
  • I had a Moby with my second, but I only used it a little, I never could get the hang of tying it.  I bought an Ergo for this baby, so here's to hoping baby likes it and it works well because that will be the thing that saves me and makes my life easier.

  • I've been using my boba which is like the moby only a bit shorter so I find it easier to wrangle. He loves it when we are out and I find that people are less annoyed when I don't have the huge stroller. I also use it around the house so I can actually make myself food and such.
  • I tried the solly wrap a few times and found it frustrating. I've been using a baby Bjorn and love it. Took my LO for a mile walk in it yesterday.
  • Use my Moby daily to go on outings with my toddler, get stuff done, and run errands! Starting to use my Tula, also.
  • I've used the moby quite a bit and the ergo a few times when I forgot my moby.
  • I have a ring sling that I use for long treks.  If I'm running to the store I use our old Bjorn just for convenience sake since it is so easy to pop him in and out. I wear him for his evening nap while I'm cleaning up the house and putting dinner together.
  • We've used out k'tan a few times it's been fantastic! It's super easy to get on/off and she zonks out quickly once in.
We have to go to my cousins wedding tonight and she will be loaded in it for as long as she will stand it. (200+ people, Italian relatives, 9 days old... Best. Timing. Ever.)
  • I've been using my Ktan since baby was probably a week old (5 weeks now). I love it and don't know what I'd do without it. Makes running errands so much easier. LO doesn't really like the car seat but if I put him in the carrier he's cozy and calm.
  • I've used the ktan around the house also. He loves it and so do I..
  • I use my Beco Gemini (love it) and I just got a ring sling the other day. Baby loves the becco and seemed ok with the sling. I'm just trying to get the hang of the sling and soften it up because it's really stiff/rough which is really disappointing so far.
  • @Izzies what fabric is your ring sling made of? Some need to be washed a few times to be broken in. If it's not machine washable you can try sitting on it or braiding it to soften it up. Mine is washable cotton, I wrap a receiving cloth around the rings multiple times and knot it so they don't bang around in the wash, then I hang dry, and fluff in the dryer for 20 min.

  • We went out in our K'tan for the first time yesterday. LO seemed to love it and was very content through our various appointments. She's just shy of 4 weeks old. We hadn't used it before since she was born early and I worried about getting her in correctly without obstructing her breathing.

I have a Khtan and Baby Bjorn. I've used my Khtan a few times, but LO is so small he just sinks down in it. He did sleep the entire time he was in it! I bought the Baby Bjorn for my DH to wear him in. We haven't tried it yet.
Now that he's putting in more weight, we will get to use both carriers more often.
  • I didn't get a carrier but I have a baby ktan wrap and we love it!

  • @ForeverEverAfter it's a Smitten wrap conversion (100% cotton) I've washed it once but I'm going to wash again and try braiding it. Thank you for the suggestion!
  • I've used my moby once and my ergo 360 (with insert) twice. The ergo is much more comfortable for me but leaves both of us sweaty when I take her on walks and it's hard to get her out of when she falls asleep and I need to lay her back down.

  • @Izzies try pulling it through smooth chair rungs or a stair banister too, even pulling it all the way through the rings multiple times will soften it.

My little guy has been in lots of different carriers since about two days old: a ring sling, woven wraps, a wrap conversion mei tai, and a friends Beco Gemini. I have a Tula waiting for him when he gets a bit bigger as i don;t have the infant insert.

For those of you having trouble or want to try out different carriers, be sure to look for your local babywearing group!
  • I just started using my ergo with infant insert. Little guy is almost 4 weeks. He loves it! And I love being able to get out of the house! I don't really feel comfortable using the wrap kind, and LO likes to be upright more than laying.
  • I have used my Solly quite a few times! Baby is 2 weeks 5 days. I also have an Ergobaby with newborn insert I wore around the house the other day! A friend of mine had the Ergobaby winter edition today on our walk and I had to buy it when we got home! We live in northeast so it gets pretty cold up here! It's super cute and has a hand warmer?!? If you live in a cold climate this is perfect!
  • Love my Solly Wrap!!
  • Can't wait to start using mine! DS is only 5 days old and 7.7lbs right now, I know my moby has an 8lb limit for starting and I'm assuming it's the same for my ring sling. Let me know if I'm wrong though. He's going to be so cute in there!
  • I have the ergo with the infant insert. I use it several times a day and wearing him calms him down for the fussy periods. It helps me get stuff done on the computer, tidy up the kitchen, do laundry, and go for walks.

After much research I wanted something DH wouldn't be embaressed wearing, something for hiking, and ergonomic for both me and baby.

Only complaint is I live in Houston and its not feasible to wear this 4 months out of the year unless in a building blasted with AC.. at least we're entering the cooler season.

  • Has anyone used a peanut sling?
I got one from a consignment store, but I can figure out how to use it even after watching YouTube videos!
  • I started using my solly wrap around the house and absolutely love it. I went to the store today to get groceries and when LO got fussy I really regreted not having brought it with me! Most of our stuff is packed right now because we just moved but I'm looking forward to breaking out my Tula when I can get it unpacked.

  • I love my Tula woven wrap. Baby boy falls right asleep. It's great for long walks and just random housework. I can vacuum and do everything I need to do with him zonked right out on me. And I got a long enough wrap to use it when he gets bigger as well. Now I just have to get hubbs to wear him too.

  • I have been using the Moby since she was 4 days old. it was the only thing that let me get breakfast for my older dd this morning. she is 8 days old now.

  • I have a backpack style carrier that can be used in front carry position too that baby really likes, but I just ordered a k'tan to try out so I can do the cradle carry position for when baby feels like lying down. My arms are about to fall off walking around the house soothing an almost 12-lb baby!
  • I have a Lille baby carrier (like an ergo 360) and we both love it. LO protests when being put in, but it usually puts her right to sleep and lets me get stuff done. It's been essential for early evenings around the house and errands.

  • Stretchy wrap and just got my ergo out today at a month.
  • I bought a Boba wrap when he was 6 days old. I use it every time we are uptown, around the house during fussy times, and anytime we've been somewhere where I don't want people touching him. (I find people want to touch in a stroller but are more reserved when he's so close to me). I love it! I always tie it beforehand and just position him in when we arrive. He always falls asleep quickly (now 5 weeks old).
  • @booksandcleverness81

I have a K'tan wrap that has the same minimum weight of 8 lbs. I asked the ped about it at the hospital when LO was born, and he said there was no reason not to use it before as long as you could keep the airway clear.  I think the concern when they're so little is they will sort of sink and collapse into it and that may obstruct their airway. I tried LO in it a few times since she was born and was uncomfortable with the way she was positioned (she was born at 6lbs, 4oz). I just kept trying about once a week until I was more comfortable with her position. Now we both love it!  Plus, trying it once in a while gave me practice so I could get her in & out easy once we were able to use it!
  • I would probably starve by now without the moby... lo just sort of turns off when he's in it.
  • I have been using our baby bjorn since DS was 3 weeks old just around the house to get him used to it and then once when we went to shop at the outlets. He loves it. Now I put him in it and I walk around cleaning and he passes our! Problem is when you go to take him out he wakes up so it forces me to continue cleaning. With him tho he prefers to be semi swaddled then put in it... Now sure how much longer we can do this as he is a big boy
  • Which position do you put Baby in? I have a ktan and felt weird about the position they suggested and have been afraid to use it. I am new to wearing.

  • Baby faces inward (on my chest). His feet are out in the spots for them. However, his arms aren't in the holes for them yet. He stays swaddled inside like a little cacoon. (His are always bent upwards with hands out in his face). I suggest also looking at YouTube videos to help. I watched one and we now can breastfeed while in the carrier
