Third Trimester Symptoms

I know it's a little late since a lot of ladies here are getting close to due dates (I'm due toward the end of November so I always feel a little behind everyone else)...I noticed there have been several posts about symptoms, but no centralized thread for discussing/comparing annoying symptoms for the third trimester. Someone should probably start a Labor Symptom thread here soon too, I noticed that on O15's board, and it seemed really helpful.

Anyway, I've been getting crazy headaches lately, I've been drinking what seems like a lot of water, so I don't think I'm dehydrated. Don't really like taking medicine in general and tylenol doesn't really seem to help anyway. Just wondering if anyone else is having more headaches than usual or if it's just me?

Re: Third Trimester Symptoms

  • My doc said to call about headaches if it doesn't go away with tylenol. Could be a sign of high BP.

  • I hit 30 weeks, and magically all my symptoms just happened at once:  sore pelvis (pubic symphysis, all day every day), swollen feet, aching swollen fingers (gets better during the day), heartburn like a pro, back pain, stuffiness/ snoring, BH contractions while working out, and worst of all.. not sleeping.  As in, if I wake up at 3 am, I never fall back asleep.  This is the only symptom out of everything that I'm finding unbearable.   But.  I'm loving the stronger kicks, actually having a bump since mine didn't appear until 26+ weeks, and watching baby boy make my stomach move in odd directions.  :-)

I started getting migraines around 29 weeks. I take Tylenol when I start seeing the spots and drink a coke. Laying down in a dark room also helps. I have spoken to my dr about them a couple of times and she says it's probably hormones and I just need to deal with them.

    Edit: I'm 33 weeks now
  • I was diagnosed with complicated migraines early in this pregnancy. I have classic stroke symptoms during them...numb on one side of the face with numbing in leg and arm of same side. Blurry vision and lightheadedness. Dr said mine were pretty bad compared to most complicated migraines as mine were mimicking stroke symptoms but I would definitely say something to your dr about the headaches. You may be having mild complicated migraines and that could be why Tylenol isn't effecting it. I also agree with pp, caffeine works wonders! They prescribed me meds for it but I'm not taking them. Usually just try to find a quiet place to lay down for a few and drink some caffeinated drink.
  • I have been lucky and have had a very easy pregnancy. But for the past two weeks I can not stop crying. My DH doesn't know what to do when I start crying for no reason at all.
  • I second some caffeine. Helps expand veins and what not to allow blood to flow a little more freely. Quality dark chocolate is my go to for a bit of caffeine.
I'm on and off on the swelling, last night I was so uncomfortably swollen but other days I'm fine. Not being able to breathe on my back is annoying too.
    Cellulite. Just, cellulite.
I also just started throwing up a little after I eat sometimes! That's fun.

I've had a pretty easy pregnancy, still is pretty easy considering I'm 34 weeks Wednesday. I've been noticing more cellulite on my legs, which sucks. Woke up this morning and from my neck to my hips are incredibly sore. Getting out of bed is an Olympic sport. Also been feeling more nausea, never had much until 3rd trimester! I'm ready to be done and to meet my little girl.

Eta: also been making a zillion trips to the bathroom and not just for #1. Literally go at least 3 times a day lately.

  • I've been feeling pretty good, except from pretty bad back & hip pain. It hurts every day, some days so bad it makes me nauseous! I'm assuming it's due to the way that I'm carrying the baby + the extra weight. Another motivator for losing weight after birth!!

Other than that, my energy levels have been great and I'm feeling positive. :)

  • I don't think it's really a pregnancy symptom but I managed to be up alllllll night last night with vomiting and diarrhea every 30-60 minutes (sometimes having it come out of both ends at the same time... That was a blast). Got so bad I've had to make a trip to the hospital for fluids and to monitor LO because he wasn't moving as much. Thankfully the fluids and the zofran have worked and I've been able to keep down a few saltines and Gatorade now.

I'll be okay if the next time I have to see the inside of the hospital is to deliver baby.
  • Im due 29th Nov so i too feel a little bit behind everyone haha. I have had sore ribs, back pain & very emotional. Can't complain too much as i have had a pretty cruisy pregnancy x
  • Body wise I haven't been having too many symptoms beyond the usual hip pain, difficulty breathing, etc... But emotionally I am a COMPLETE DISASTER. I teach high school and it has been hard to do my job the tears and emotional roller coaster has been so bad.

I am so ready for her to be here already!
  • Overall I've been feeling pretty good, which I am so grateful for! I do get some tailbone pain by the end of the day at work most days, my feet are pretty damn swollen (not painful, just annoying), and I have heart burn a few times per week. It could be much worse though! 6 weeks to go!
  • Throughout the entire pregnancy I have had tailbone pain that is really painful and seems pretty constant now. Starting at week 30ish my stomach muscles started to ache soooo bad, especially after tossing and turning all night. Going on 34 weeks and I keep thinking, what else can make me feel even more uncomfortable than I am right now. Mentally, Im done being pregnant.. I just want to feel semi normal again... Looking forward to holding my LO :)

  • I really can't complain because I feel lucky compared to what some pregnant women have to deal with. My issues now are dealing with getting out of breath easier, having a harder time bending over to pick things up off the floor/wipe up the floor, baby is super low so I'm always having to pee, and just being tired in general. Again nothing really too bad so I consider myself lucky!
  • I have it pretty easy but did notice a change at 32 weeks. Sleeping is killing my hips, my lower back hurts if I stand for too long, I have zero patience at work, and things I used to do with ease, like running errands, catch up with me. My body can't keep up with my mind and I'm not used to it. I have to force myself to stop and relax before I break!
  • Is being fat as FUCK a symptom?

    Absolutely. Yes.
  • I had a lot of headaches in the second tri, my OB recommended chasing a Tylenol with a bit of caffeine to give it a boost.  Worked really well!

Third tri symptoms so far are just getting winded really easily, thirsty all the time (so of course, peeing all the time), and new this week, I get "cankles" by the end of the day.  Mostly just my left ankle?  Not sure what's up with that.  Oh, and I'm getting heartburn despite taking Pepcid AC daily.  If I lay on my left side it lessens up, but my body wants to sleep on my right side, so sleeping is a bit of a struggle.

  • I'm 32 weeks and the biggest symptom that I have realized is a HUGE appetite loss. I went from eating 3 or 4 plates at dinner to struggling to eat a whole apple. I get full way fast these days and am starting to wonder if LO is getting all the nutrients he needs!
  • Heartburn, difficulty sleeping, and feeling like I can't breathe. Heartburn is definitely the worst because it also keeps me from being able to comfortable lay down... And I'm so tired

I get the one swollen foot, too! Super weird. Third trimester hit, and I am suddenly really uncomfortable. Started having some minor throbbing headaches, usually drinking a ton of water and some Tylenol helps. DH has been nice enough not to laugh at me when I struggle to get off the couch or out of bed. I just feel so clumsy and huge and overstuffed! And my back is constantly at least a little sore, especially first thing in the morning, and really sore if I had a busy day the previous day.

I'm not too bad emotions-wise, but I've noticed I really need to avoid certain news stories or movies- really upsetting stuff sticks with me! I watched a movie where a dog got killed and I couldn't stop thinking about it all night. I definitely wouldn't be able to watch any horror movies, which I usually enjoy!
  • Thanks for the responses guys, I have an appointment tomorrow so I'll ask about headaches and try caffeine, right now all that seems to help is laying down with a cool towel on my head.

Sorry to hear about everyone else's aches and pains, I'm definitely right there with ya! T-minus 56 days, I've been counting down since like 113...
  • Well about weird symptoms... today I felt super light headed, almost if I was going to faint or if I was in a cotton cloud. I though maybe it was my blood sugar going too low but even after gulping down fruit juice, I still felt the same.
I am just now starting to feel a bit better. I see my ob tomorrow and I will mention it, but has it happened to any of you ?

Yes, a few times now. I had to sit down/lay down and drink some water before I felt better, eating protein seems to help me too--some almonds or cheese or something. My OB said it probably just had to do with blood volume increasing, so your heart has to work harder to pump it all, also it was really hot all the days it happened to me so she thought that probably contributed.
  • Ribs on my right side killingggg me slowly (her head is right there) also skin is soo dry and uncomfortable 24/7. No lotions or potions help. Thankful despite all of these annoying, uncomfortable 3rd trimester symptoms.
  • Horrible lower back/tailbone pain (from an old ice skating injury, but irritated by how I'm carrying, I think). Occasional nausea, insomnia, and pure exhaustion mixed with extreme restlessness (what?!? I'm a psycho.) Lets just say I cannot wait to meet DD. In the words of my 5 year old DS: "She's taking FOR-EV-ERRRR!!"

  • Nothing out of the ordinary here! Some days I have terrible lower back pain, insomnia, heart burn and no appetite. Other days I feel ok. Each day that goes by without back pain I'm greatful for since it's so painful. I'm in the boat of feeling sorry for myself and extremely lucky at the same time :) 8 more weeks!

  • I'll be 35 weeks tomorrow, and am suffering from major exhaustion. I never knew it was possible to be so tired. Other then that, I get some aches and pains towards the end of the day, but I'm mostly good.

Compared to 2nd trimester headaches, I'll take the 3rd trimester symptoms any day. That being said, they're not all that pleasant. My fingers hurt so, so badly. That's one I wish would go away because it's hard to grip and/or open things. My feet and ankles are really swollen, but at least it's not just my left one anymore. My lower back hurts, my bladder area is uncomfortable (no infection, just LO moving her head against it and stretching my muscles in that area), I have to pee all the freaking time, my upper back hurts on my right side and my skin burns in my upper rib area. Like most of you, I'm also very, very tired and out of breath sometimes.

Edited to add: terrible reflux that sometimes triggers vomiting like it just did to me. Awesome.

    We're having twins

Our angel baby boy is looking over his twin sister - due November 21

  • Starting at about 32 weeks, I've been having an insane amount of pressure on my cervix, to the point that I have to lay down and (this is weird) curve my back so my butt is sticking out. I guess it repositions baby? It's the only way I've found to get any relief from it.

Also, not sure if this counts as a symptom, but baby likes to stay nestled under the right side of my rib cage. There was a spot last week on the back of my rib cage that hurt *so* bad I was naseous, so I had my husband come push down on it really hard (only thing that made it feel better), and he could actually feel my rubs bulging. Talk about scary haha
  • I started having headaches also and I'm due on thanksgiving but I went to the ER with mine and the doctor told me that it is actually normal for you to get headaches but mine where migraines! He said after giving birth they usually stop! I also have no history of migraines in my family! It's just apart of pregnancy. Btw he was an OB nurse before he became a doctor.

All of this verbatim.  Maybe means I'm having a gal too?!
  • Just shoot me!

I was hospitalized for a week because gallbladder isses.

Had a cyst on my labia. It was lanced in the office. Still healing.

Severe right quadricep cramping in hee middle of the night (yes, my thigh)

    Cotton Mouth like nobody's business.

Mood swings and emotions I never knew existed! Got major depression, anxiety, and some wicked hostility.

Got taken out of work by Dr for the gallbladder thing and other complications (I've been high risk since the beginning). I get to sit alone, by myself 9-10hrs a day with ZERO energy, and major pain, unable to "nest" or do simple things like dishes. I'm alone inside my own head and literally making myself batshit crazy! I'm not enjoying this. I'm ready to hold my baby and be done with this pregnancy!!

  • I'm still getting sick like I was in the first trimester. Headaches, heartburn, congestion, mood swings, cotton mouth, high anxiety, etc. It's been quite a ride.
  • I'm just having sugar rush cravings.. and sleep is starting to hitting me hard! I yawn every 30 minutes I think I'm ready to start hibernating. Lol
  • I'm only 32 weeks and I've started hibernating. I napped for four hours after work yesterday, went back to sleep a few hours later, woke up at 12:30am to go to bed with my fiancé and then slept until I had to get up for work at 5:30. I came home at 11:30 today and ended up having another hour long nap that could have extended if I didn't have an ob appointment today. I'm just so tired of always being tired.
  • The worst I guess is more of a complication than a symptom, but the contractions are driving me insane. Multiple trips to L&D and never knowing when he is going to make an appearance for real. I have contractions that are 3-5 minutes apart for a couple hours basically daily, and even when I'm not in the worst of it I never go more than half an hour between contractions and it's just making me miserable.

Then of course also the back pain, hip pain, pressure on my cervix from his little noggin making me uncomfortable. Plus for the past week or so I've had cramping that honestly feels exactly like I'm about to get my period and nothing relieves that pain.

I'm so ready for him to hurry up and be here. Or rather, time needs to hurry up, cause he still has some cooking to do.
  • So thirsty and therefore bathroom trips constantly. Heartburn and trouble falling asleep
