I hate people who think the world should stop because there kid is sick. "How dare my boss text me when my kid is sick" come on! You should be happy your place of employment goes on even with the extreme horror and sadness of your child being sick, so when his cold clears you have a job to go back to. I understand when your kid is sick you light candles, hold vigil and never leave there bedside 24/7 but you can text back. You can text back
While your peeing unless you put in a catheter to not leave your precious Angels side. Oh and FYI you can use phones in hospitals, it doesn't interfere with the equipment.
Ermmm...this is probably one of the most insensitive things I've ever read on here. Gross.
Perhaps the parents see their child as priority one over texting you back? I'm sure your text seems like peanuts compared to what they'd be going through. Or you know what? Maybe they just don't care. They may not feel like talking to anyone.
Super late to the party - but just going to chime in to say: Really ashamed to have such people in the health industry. If you're so bitter because a co-worker cares more about their sick child than checking their phone/email constantly to respond to their boss (which, if they're not calling you, it's minor and does not need to be addressed immediately; it can wait) -- then I hate to see how you treat your patients and their families that come in to your ER.
I totally shirked my work responsibilities yesterday for my kid. He was having a bad day at school (he's overweight and gets picked on a lot, like physically bullied not just teasing). I closed my shop early and picked him up so we could spend some time together. It wasn't a serious hospital ER situation, but his mental health is important to me just as much as physical health. And no, I didn't answer any calls or texts for the rest of the day.
@chrlyr if you read the rules you will see that your supposed to lurk and search and answer your own questions and not ask questions that have already been answered. I'm new here but I'm 99% sure that's like rule #1. PS- karma just kicked me in the teeth and my dog just got diarrhea, shit in my bed, all over herself and has insane gas. I guess you all win this round. I will keep my unpopular opinions to myself regardless of the title of the thread.
Yeah, the first rule is lurk and search on things that everyone asks several times a day, like about preseed, OPKs, or which BBT to use ... Not to find personal details about some rando with no social skills. We're not going to search for you ... We're going to ignore you.

I'm really truly sorry to hear this. That must be incredibly hard. Bullies suck.

I'm really sorry that your son and, by extension, you, are going through that. Your son is lucky to have such a caring mom.
Late to the party... Can't believe anyone would expect a coworker to put work over a sick child.
That being said- as a nurse if people call out and no one else can come in you can often times be saddled with extra patients. I have had 10 very sick adult patients at once on a shift and I seriously was so overwhelmed I was just happy each one made it through the shift. Working short staffed as a nurse isn't just stressful, it's incredibly dangerous.
I hope that she posted this as someone who just got through a shift from hell and needed to vent, and that this is not actually her real opinion.
I would NEVER be mad at a co-worker for being with their child, ESPECIALLY one in the hospital.. But I do understand the stress of being short staffed as a nurse.
If this is really how she feels 100% percent of the time, then nursing, a job where empathy and compassion are 50% of your job, is not for her.
I'm late to this party as well. Agree with everyone that texting/emailing while dealing with a potentially dangerous family issue is no bueno. The employee should let their team/boss know when it happens, but no expectations of much follow up from there in my book.
Thats just insensitive

Ive fired nurses from my/DSs care for less. Insensitivity like is not the way to be a good nurse.
