My UO (I'm okay with flaming, I completely understand that not everyone feels like I do): I'm extremely grateful that I have a job that takes me away from my house and my DD for a chunk of every day. I need that time to decompress from being needed and to exercise my "grown up" brain. I love DD, and I desperately want another baby, but if I knew I'd have to stay home with my kids, I'd probably feel differently about it.
I'm just not SAHM material, and I'm okay with that.
I'm totally with you here. Even if I could stay at home (given that our household income is split roughly 50/50 between DH and I, it's not an option), I don't think I'd make a good SAHM. Some people are completely suited for it, and I am not one of those people. Having said that, I also hate the SAHM v. working mom wars. Both groups work equally hard and no one has it easy. The end.
I may get flamed for this but here goes...My UO: I get really annoyed when people treat pets better than humans. I like animals. I think pets are so loyal and should be treated with respect and cuddled know their owners love them. But if it's a situation of a person's well-being vs a let's? Ppl win.
This annoyance is exacerbated by my neighbors who let their dogs sniff or lunge at me when I'm running. I know you love Fido and Fido may even be really cute, but I don't want him touching me today and I think it's rude you let him invade my personal space. I get more pissed when I Iunge away and their response is "Oh she's nice!" Nope, not the point. Don't want your dog touching me.
I treat my dogs better than my teenage children in a lot of cases because my dogs like me more and they're definitely more appreciative!
@mrsschmitty I'm with you on this one! I cannot staaaand Keeping up with the Kardashians! It just makes me angry watching that show thinking to myself WHAT HAVE ANY OF THEM EVER DONE TO DESERVE ALL THIS MONEY?! Nothing. That is the answer. They are famous for nothing. Minus Bruce/Caitlyn, he did his work in the olympics.
My UO is that I hate new music. Sure some of it is catchy and whatever but every song I hear just makes me mad that these people make money off this crap (particularly rap music)... Like Nikki Minaj ughhhh! Give me some Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and I'm good! Minus people like Ed Sheeran, he's amazing :x
Ah ok. That makes sense now.
Well mine is definitely unpopular. I don't really like peanut butter.
@BVBabyHopeful We can't be friends. Kiddiinnggg. But seriously. Peanut butter is life, so I find it hard to trust people who don't share the same passion I do.
@AshPat0525- OMG, Yes!!!! it makes me want to write a song, seriously......I know i could get rich off any song i could come up with if these fools are doing it!!

I'm not SAHM material either. I posted above that I wish I could have the option to stay home with a LO, but what I really meant was "stay at home with a LO for longer than 8-12 weeks". I'd like to be home for the first year or so, until they are a little less fragile.

I'm a sahm and I'm the first person to say it's not for everyone! This ish is hard work
No flaming here. Some people do well with staying at home, and others do well working. I'm glad you're able to work and you get the outlet you need. I'm a member of an all women organization and we get together twice a month for meetings. We have a social hour before the meetings start where we have wine and yummy snacks. We have a social once a month or so. It's my outlet away from my kids. We all need them!

I was thinking the other day how I am the opposite. I had to go back to work recently and keep thinking, I'm not cut out to be a working mom! So props to you moms who can do it. Like a PP said, it's hard no matter where you are. And no one should flame you for this one
I completely agree with everyone on the maternity leave. I think maternity leave (especially paid leave) only seems to be a UO among politicians, which is unfortunate! We have a friend in Canada and they have a very generous paid maternity leave policy, at least in Quebec it seemed. Very jealous! I'll just be over here, hoarding my vacation days.
Yeah, I feel bad saying it ... But we basically get a full year up here in Canada. It can be split between parents if desired - I think 15 weeks is maternal and 35 is parental. My cousin's husband took the last 3 months of her leave. She went back to work after 9 months. It's not fully paid - the government pays a portion through Employment Insurance, I think it is. Some employers top up your leave... Mine doesn't, but that's ok.
A friend of mine in TX went back when her DS was only 6 weeks. That completely boggles my mind.
I went back when my son was 6 weeks old. To top it off, my manager wouldn't stop texting/emailing/calling me to ask work questions for the week we were in the NICU. Employers have no respect for women who just gave birth. To top it off, my managers wife had her baby 2 days before I did, so you would think he would understand. Plus, WE WERE IN THE NICU. Such an ass
@AshPat0525- OMG, Yes!!!! it makes me want to write a song, seriously......I know i could get rich off any song i could come up with if these fools are doing it!!
Exactly! I say that to DH all the time because he listens to all the newest popular songs of the moment, especially the ones that seem like they literally say 4 words through out the whole song! Drives me nuts X(

Bahaha another one I hate! Nothing about me is "on fleek"
Thanks @BVBabyHopeful - I was trying to work out what UO meant too so glad you asked! Sorry I am one of those exercise addicted people who everyone hates! But not quite so bad as my friend who is 8months pregnant and still racing triathlons... And winning them...! Secretly hoping that will be me in the not too distant future so I guess my UO is that exercise during pregnancy is awesome

I cannot handle YOLO. WTF!! I mean really is it too hard to speak actual words nowadays?? And what about ppl on social media trying to wish you happy birthday and all they wrote is "HB". Seriously?!?!? does it take too much effort to actual spell two words?!?!?!? Ugh!!!

AH, well then I'm rarely 'fleek" I need to ask DH if he's heard of this. I'm not a big fan of text speak. Even when I was a teenager, I didn't get it, and that was before phones had an entire keyboard to type. Also LOL is very over used. I see it all the time on these boards at odd places, and I read the sentence and say "there is no way you're laughing at that." Also can't stand when people type the word "like" in the valley girl, over used, sense not in "oh I like cake."
I can't even imagine the stress that a lack of (or poor) maternity leave could put on an expecting couple. I am from Canada and even though our daycare costs are still very expensive here (maybe changing after our next election, fingers crossed) we have an excellent maternity leave. 1 year off with most jobs - pay depending on where you work I think. I am a registered nurse and we get a year off with 75% of our monthly wage paid (even for casual employees).
I may get flamed for my UO: I don't really like dogs. But mostly, I don't like dogs who are not trained. My in laws have a golden retriever who is constantly jumping on you, slobbering on you, and otherwise making a nuisance of itself (and it only just stopped peeing on me whenever I come over - it is well over 1 year old). I try to like the thing, I really do... But I guess I am just more of a cat person.
My UO is that I hate selfies- both the word and the concept. I don't mean taking/sharing an occasional picture of yourself because you need a profile pic, did something awesome, feel particularly snazzy one day, etc. That doesn't bother me. But the people who feel the constant need to take and share random pictures of themselves in their car, bathroom, wherever, every freaking day...why?

This!! Work is my break from home. Home is my break from work. I actually started a blog when DS was a baby called "I'm just not stay at home mom material"...I only kept up with it for a short time but I still feel the same way I did then!
I hate people who think the world should stop because there kid is sick. "How dare my boss text me when my kid is sick" come on! You should be happy your place of employment goes on even with the extreme horror and sadness of your child being sick, so when his cold clears you have a job to go back to. I understand when your kid is sick you light candles, hold vigil and never leave there bedside 24/7 but you can text back. You can text back While your peeing unless you put in a catheter to not leave your precious Angels side. Oh and FYI you can use phones in hospitals, it doesn't interfere with the equipment.

Um... what? I don't expect the world to stand still when my kiddos have the flu or a cold, but in the hospital? Yeah. I ignored everyone that wasn't family this summer when my oldest was in the hospital for 2 weeks.
@CoachBeckyCooper I don't understand how a sick kid means you can't speak to anyone outside of your blood line? What's the different between speaking to a cousin and a friend? Why couldn't you handle your responsibilities after visiting hours or when your kid was sleeping? I don't get it.

I think there's a big difference between ignoring your responsibilities because your kid has a cold, and ignoring your responsibilities because your kid is in the hospital. Having any loved one, let alone your CHILD, in the hospital is emotionally exhausting. Hell, my dog just had surgery and I had a hard time concentrating at work. It's not just about whether you can physically answer your phone, it's about whether you have the mental space free to deal with things. I wouldn't expect a coworker who had a kid in the hospital to answer emails or return phone calls.
@jennifer0428 excuse me?! I am sorry that you feel that my kid almost dying meant I ignored my responsibilities to stay with him. I don't remember asking you about it, it must have slipped my mind.
@CoachBeckyCooper uhhh I think you need to re-read my OP I didn't call you out. you came at me and took offense to my UO. I don't know you or if my OP even applied to you. YOU felt it applies to you and YOU felt that you were being attacked. I was just venting. I work with 99% women and I deal with that shit constantly and it drives me insane. If you don't think the world should stop when your kid is sick then my post doesn't apply to you and has nothing to do with you!
