  • I'd love to post a UO, but the app has just crashed for the sixth time in a row. How are companies so woefully unprepared for the release of a new iOS? Get it together.

I am with you on this!!! But I have an irrational fear of people in costumes so I think that contributes to it. (Small children don't scare me but like the mall Easter bunny terrifies me)

I don't even know what Labyrinth is.

  • @raesmith9- Yes!! I completely agree!! My bestie just had their first and is going back to work after only 8 weeks because she ended up using her 9th week waiting for DS to arrive.  She will only going back very part time for the first 4 weeks, but still.  I can't even imagine.  I'm hoping and praying we can find a way for me to stay at home the whole 1st year.  That more than likely will not happen depending on when this all happens, but a girl can be hopeful.

I would also love to stay home the first year as well but I make too much money to do so. I told my husband that if I did not have a well paying job and my salary would only cover cost for day care, I would so stay home with the LO.

This is the first time I've been happy that I make a lot less than DH, because when we talked finances, we figured out that my salary will basically cover day care and that's it because day care, even through my employer, is obscenely expensive. At that point, why not just stay home and take the night feedings and diaper changes so DH can get some sleep and not be dead at work?
  • @adiaz132003 that is hilarious and awful at the same time. The only time I think dogs in a stroller is ok is if the dog has a legit reason it can't walk. A neighbor had a pug who had surgery and couldn't walk after for a while, but she still had to walk her other dogs and the pug would cry when she left. She bought a stroller at a yard sale and put the pug in it. Happy dog.

  • I completely agree with everyone on the maternity leave. I think maternity leave (especially paid leave) only seems to be a UO among politicians, which is unfortunate! We have a friend in Canada and they have a very generous paid maternity leave policy, at least in Quebec it seemed. Very jealous! I'll just be over here, hoarding my vacation days.

@Ash9614 Every time I go running, I'm so worried I'm going to accidentally kick a small dog that ambles into my path. Or trip over their leash. I am not something for your dog to sniff. There are plenty other of those things around!

Yeah, I feel bad saying it ... But we basically get a full year up here in Canada. It can be split between parents if desired - I think 15 weeks is maternal and 35 is parental. My cousin's husband took the last 3 months of her leave. She went back to work after 9 months. It's not fully paid - the government pays a portion through Employment Insurance, I think it is. Some employers top up your leave... Mine doesn't, but that's ok.

A friend of mine in TX went back when her DS was only 6 weeks. That completely boggles my mind.

  • I hate when people dress up their dogs and carry them in purses. Or even worse, doggy/baby strollers.
Back when we were young and foolish (and didn't have a LO bleeding us dry) we totally bought a bjorn for our pug (one made for dogs, not humans). We thought it was the most hilarious thing ever. Looking back, not so much.

I sometimes find myself wishing I was still in an entry-level position so I would have the option to stay home for a while. But as it is, I make almost as much as my husband, so we would definitely miss my salary. Even taking the 12 weeks off is something we have to plan/save for, so even though I'm glad I am somewhat well-paid, it's kind of depressing in a weird way.

I am really relating to all of these UOs today. This is me, too. I find it hard to believe that there are people who actually enjoy the feeling of exercising. The feeling after? Okay, maybe. But the actual torture of the exercise, how is that possible?

  • I guess my UO is that I love going to the gym. We're members at the YMCA and I get two hours per day of child care included in my membership. We only pay $81/month for the whole family. The child care is amazing and the facility offers a lot of fun classes. I take some of those and do my own routine on the free floor area.

On days I don't want to workout I go and take my computer. The kids get to play and I catch up on bills and our house budget.

YES.   Do I feel good after exercising knowing I did something good for my body and burned some calories? Yes. But exercising is boring to me.  I'd rather sit at home and watch tv lol.

  • @severmilli12 I found classes that I like that make it not feel like a workout. Zumba and cardio funk are my favorites, but I love kickboxing too. I'd rather do those all the time, but they didn't give me the results I wanted so I added in my own workouts. I don't love those while I'm doing them. I also started working outside on the track during nice weather so that helps.

  • @primrosemama that is a perfect reason for carrying a loved pet! Your post made me smile. My pup loves outside, I don't know what I'd do if he couldn't go for walks anymore. Do they make strollers big enough to hold a 65lb Australian Shepherd?

  • My UO today...I hate reality TV. I tried watching Keeping up with the Kardashians for a while, and hear all these women talking about the Bachelor/Bachelorette, or any other reality show and I just never got into any of them.

    image

Not a UO in my mind. Reality TV bores me to tears. I used to love the old school "reality" TV - Road Rules, Real World, very early American Idol. The shows now are just ridiculous.

I lurk. I snark. I offer sound advice if you're not BSC. You may not like me. I'm okay with it.

Ah ok. That makes sense now.
Well mine is definitely unpopular. I don't really like peanut butter. I just feel it tends to get in the way. Especially if it's mixed with chocolate. Now that being said, every Christmas I make peanut butter cookies and since it's the star ingredient I love them! And for some weird reason info love Reese's cups/pieces/minis etc. I don't do PB&Js though.
