Two days into daycare...and LO has gone to bed normal time and slept long stretches for both of them. And when she has done a MOTN feed she goes down easily after. Daycare must be wearing her out! AND they got her to take a 45 minute nap IN A CRIB yesterday! I mean I still hate being away from her, and I still left work early to get to her last night...but so far so good!

Awesome - hope the good sleep continues!

I am getting so anxious about returning to work... I think I took off way too much time (4 full months) because I feel so out of the loop.... I am going back only 2 nights per week and still am struggling to accept my maternity leave is over... Weren't we all just waiting for it to start?! Getting sentimental....
@ElRuby I've been feeling the same way! I've had access to my work email while on leave and I still feel so out of the loop. Fortunately, I had lunch with my team yesterday and aside from having to leave LO with my MIL, I feel so much better about returning to work on Monday.
Can you get together with any of your coworkers to get caught up on what's happened while you've been on leave?

I have been in touch and continued to supervise a colleague while I was away so I have been kept in the loop technically...still doesn't keep me from all that back to work angst!
So I did awesome at work last week...... But today I'm already dreading dropping him off with mil so I can sleep for work tonight.... Hormones. I know I have to sleep for patient safety so I can't just keep him home with me but ugh he's so snuggly and I hate leaving him.
First day back to work today...sitting at the table drinking coffee watching lo sleep on the baby monitor. I'm going to have to wake him if he doesn't get up soon. I just want to go back to sleep with him :-S (

Back as well today for a 12 hour shift and the same tomorrow. Waking up at 430 is the pits but it's the only way I'm able to get one feeding in...she'll be asleep when I come home. On pumping session number 2. I think they're taking pity on me patient-load wise today because I'm walking around like a deer in the headlights. I love the app daycare uses, they keep track of everything and send me pictures. Good luck to all you other ladies, this is tough!

@dancegurl1118 Sorry you're back today! Must stink.... I've been on the couch crying with the baby for an hour wishing I didn't have to go back tomorrow. This really is the pits. I hope you're first day is fast and you get home to that beauty!!! Let me know how she does today!!! I'm totally fearing for my mom tomorrow because this kid still won't take a bottle....
Both kids slept until 7:30, which is great. Except I have to leave at 7:25. So I didn't see them this morning and I feel really crappy about that. But if I had stayed, I would have to stay late at work which means even less time at night. At least they both slept well.

Hugs to all of you starting back!
That happened to me a couple times last week and it made me really sad...i leave home at 645 so that i can get to work at 730 and leave at 430. But DH sent me videos of her waking up to watch while i was pumping which was awesome.
I know it's only been a day, but I don't know if I can do this. Only 1.5 hour with her after work?! Pumping 3x a day and a new team to work with? Just don't know...
@Sammy K yes! I rushed through pumping which sucked and probably not the best idea because I didn't get to pump again the rest of my shift and had to race home to feed her before she fell asleep @ 8. Definitely leaked all over my scrubs lol. My patient was awesome. I felt really lost in everything today coming back after 4 months but it was a refreshing birth.

Can we all agree that getting to eat lunch in relative peace is the best part about working I am still rushed since I use my lunch break to pump, but for at least a few min Monday through Friday I get to eat by myself using both hands, with no worries about finishing before LO wakes up.
I cried, pumped, and ate my lunch (at 3pm) at the same time. It was a really shitty day. I cried in front of a million people including my managers. I hate feeling like I'm bad at my job.

So sorry that you are having a rough time. Adjusting to finding a balance between what you need to do for baby, work, and yourself is so hard, but I'm sure even tougher for you with your long hours and the unpredictability of baby birthing. Hang in there!! Thinking of you and feeling thankful for all you ladies who help bring our LOs into the world!

Hey!! You have 2 full time jobs now, give yourself some slack! I'm sorry you had a bad day. I hope you can get yourself a margarita and LO snuggles, that should be the cure all!
November 2 is the day ... Did any of you working mamas introduce your LO to daycare before you went back to work? I'm thinking of doing like 1 day a week so he will be a bit used to it before he starts going 3 days a week. He will be just afternoons 3 days a week, I'm think of starting him in October once a week (1 afternoon a week)... It's so hard for me to leave him but I think it will benefit him when I have to leave him for work...like it won't be so all of the sudden... Thoughts?
Day two and I'm not sure I'm up for the working mom life.
It gets easier.
One thing that helped me is that I'm putting lo to sleep at night now an hour earlier. At first I wanted that time to play with her, but she doesn't sleep that well at daycare and I can really use the extra time to deal with bottles for the next day etc. So the second she starts getting cranky we start the bedtime routine. Typically we get started at 630 and I'm done by 745, when we used to start at 730-745 when I was on leave.
I still wish we had more time together but I really make the weekends count!
Not a lot of July-ers going back yet so I'm joining you all here. LO is 12 weeks Friday so I'm going back to work tomorrow. Last week I thought it would be nice to go back to my job and that I would handle it well but since Monday I've just been crying and feeling totally gutted. My mom will be watching LO and I'm grateful for that but yesterday she took him for 3 hours while I went clothes shopping and when I got back she said he had pretty much been fussy and crying the whole time. I feel even worse than I did before, I wish she'd said they had a great time.
I also don't know where to pump so I'm going to plan to pump in my car. I feel like I'm going to have to fight to keep pumping sessions a priority, my job involves getting pulled into a lot of impromptu meetings. I've always been really career-focused but I'm dreading going back more than anything. I'll never have this time with my baby again, it's just nights and weekends now. Maybe some holidays I guess.
And I feel like I'm wasting my last day with him by crying all day. Tell me it gets better.
@klirwin82 it does get better, especially if you like your job. Don't spend your remaining time off stressing!!!!! I have found being honest with people about pumping is the easiest way to make it a priority, plus it usually makes the other people feel awkward and they wont be able to argue with you (especially if they are men)
If people want to pull you into a meeting, just be realistic "yes I can come, but I will have to duck out early to pump" or "can this wait 15 min, I have to pump"
@hudson202 talking about pumping to men is the best!!!
I had a meeting with my boss (a man) and said "I'm still Breast feeding so I'm going to need to pump every 2-3 hours or I'm going to explode." He awkward laughed, then didn't have much to say after that haha.
@HayesRN13 I sent my babes to daycare when I went back to work, but at a slower time in my schedule. So I could be a little more lax about drop off time, and I could go get them early if I really wanted.
Knowing I COULD go get them made it soooooo much easier to leave them. Then, when I got busier at work and had to be there at a specific time, I was already used to them being there.
Are yall bringing enough flanges for each pump session? Cleaning them after each session if not? We don't have a sink in our room and I'd like to not use the wipes, I can't get the soap off that well. Should I just bring 6 pieces for my 3 pump sessions? I hate pumping at work!
Also, has there been a GTKY thread for working moms? Could someone point me in that direction?
If not, I would love to know the following:
1. What do you do? 2. What do you like about your job? 3. What is your fave family activity on your days off?
Great idea! I like finding out what other people here do.
1. Structural engineer 2. I get to work on cool projects across the country. I've done a lot in New Orleans, just finished a cable stayed bridge in NYC, and have worked on projects all over the Midwest and East coast. My favorite job so far was an explosive demolition of a bridge in MO. 3. Going to the zoo. Or napping, but getting 2 kids to nap at the same time is like photographing Big Foot.
1. I am a project manager for a personal care/home frgrance/apparel retailer 2. I love that my job is all about problem solving. I love solving the problem of how to get product stores at the right price at the right time. Plus I get to be bossy sometimes, which let's me get that part of my personality out so I don't take it out on DH. Plus I love christmas, and in retail, it is always christmas. 3. My favorite family activity is going to the park, we have 2 dogs, so it's fun to walk them and let LO look at all the trees - once LO can handle me eating dairy, my favorite family activity will quickly switch to eating pizza as a family
1. Labor & Birth nurse 2. Obviously bringing babies Into the world and being part of that special moment. But the hospital I work at is large and high-risk, so it's special to me to know that without our care these babies and moms could die. We've got a long way to go with maternal care in the US but I like to think my care is helping. 3. Sleeping. Is that not family friendly?

I take 1 set and I use the Medela wipes. It says on the package that they just need to air dry for at least 10 min after use.
Another option would be to put the pump parts in a Baggie in the fridge (or cooler) where you keep your milk.
Or you could bring 6 pieces. Whatever floats your boat.
I use one set and just put them in the fridge in between. I even use the same bottles and just pour into storage bags. I don't even have time to rinse them so who knows, but I'm pretty sure breastmilk has super human strength so I'm not worried about germs.
