Baby names?

Re: Baby names?

  • DH and I can't agree on a boys name. I like Janvier he likes Carlyle. DD is Penelope Aila so if its another girl it will be Camila Alina. We are team green so we have a ways to go before we decide☺
  • Loading the player...
  • DH always gets set on one name and won't divert from it.  He really wants to name the baby Zander if it's a boy.... I'm not sold on it

We already have Madelyn Sue and Owen Christopher (Christopher is also a family name).

I really would like to use the MN of Irene and John (after my grandmother and grandfather), but having a hard time coming up with girl names I like that go with Irene

    Top girl names:
Eliza, Elise, Gemma, Jenna, Hope, Amelia

    Boys names:
Ethan, Nolan, Silas, Graham (DH hates all my names)
  • DH and I have agreed on 1 boys name and we have 4 girls names that are on the list....

Boy: Lucas Anthony (MN is after his father)
    Girls: (MN will be Nicole)
Leah (my FAV - I like short names since our last name is longer)
    Audrey
    Madeline
    Gabrielle
  • MIL is Emma

    DH is Eric

    DS is Enzo

We've got Esme set in stone if we have a girl. I'm not too sure about a boy's name.

  • We have our names already. We both agreed on first names and then I got to pick a boy middle name and my husband picked the girl middle name.
    Boy: Connelly Maverick
    Girl: Mallori Imogene
My mom's name is Lori. That is why Mallori is spelled that way
I'm so excited to find out what our little ninja turtle is.
  • @laurenmdrn16 I love Renzo! I'm a big fan of Italian names. What about Bruno or Giovanni (nn Gio)?

@LadySamLady I am digging Giovanni! Giovanni David works. I can't wait to tell MH. He was bummed because all the other names we liked were already taken by one of his millions of cousins! But, surprisingly, there isn't a Giovanni in the whole bunch. There is a Dante, Biagio, Renato, Rocco, Alfonso, etc etc. If you like Italian names, just ask. We got a lot in this family!

  • Ours is the same for a boy or girl: Schuyler Blakely Key... family names...
  • We picked out names the weekend after our BFP. I was surprised how easy it was for us to agree!

    Girl: Ada Jane
    Boy: Henry Graham

None of them are family names. We just liked the sound of them.
  • Girl: Hazel.
    Boy: We can't agree!
  • I'm a names freak so I kind of always have a list going... my husband just veto's. Lol.

Our son is "Tate Zachary" and he was always going to be that... we couldn't agree on a girl's name so it's probably good he's a boy ;). Zachary is a family name (derived from the last name of my maternal side of the family). Tate we just loved. I like short, sweet and different but not bizarre names.

If this one is a boy he'll probably be "Brooks", a girl, I'm digging "Wynn" right now, but I'm sure it will change. Girl middle name will be "Eleanor" after DH's last surviving grandparent.

    DS • Tate Zachary • 05.07.13

  • Resurrecting this thread to see how the name game is going for everyone?

It is really hard for me to get my husb to talk names these days, and even harder to find names I actually like which is very unlike me and I'm not sure if it is because I've already found the names or if I'm clueless!  I can't see us deciding for certain on a name until we meet the LO but I wish we could. The whole process is a lot less fun than I had imagined. How about you all? Are you decided and if so, how did you get there?

  • I think I posted here before, but we had some shifts in boys names

Girls- still loving Whitney, Brooke and Kate. DH gets to pick the middle name, and I have no clue what he will go for. We also really like Bianca (nn Bea) but my mom told me that's a "made up name"???

Boys- leaning to Harris or Bennett (nn Ben).

I really love Ben, but our football teams QB is Ben, and since I think DH would divorce me to marry him (I kid...kinda) an obvious Ben would make it seem like we named him after a football player. So Bennett makes it not seem so obvious I think.

Our last name is a 2 syllable H name (think main character on "Girls). Would Harris sound silly with that?

Boys middle name will be William after my uncle that passed. He didn't have kids, so I would like to carry on him name in some respect.

  • @ladysamlady for some reason I NEEDED to have the names picked out! I don't know if it is because I was feeling so sick I needed to remember there is a cute little baby growing in me or if I was worried about a name that "fit" with my son's. Anyways, we actually picked the names pretty easily (after some back and forth). We settled on Luna Diana if she is a girl and Tobias David (we'll call him Toby) for a boy. The middle names are for my mother and my uncle. The initials all work out (with my son, his initials ended up being R.O.D. which MH loves, but I think it's weird...oh well!) and my son loves saying good night to baby Luna (and sometimes Toby).

I must say that with my fist pregnancy, we had zero girl names that we liked. Since we were Team Green, we figured if we had a girl we would make a decision after she was born. I have in my head that certain names are "dark-haired" names and certain names are "light-haired" names. Sounds silly, but I have had to rename a few cats that we got from shelters because they had the wrong "color" name. That was how we felt with our girl names with my last pregnancy. If the girl was dark-haired, she would be Rachel and blonde would be Iliana. I have no idea why. This time around, we are pretty sure we are getting another blondie, but feel like Luna could work either way. We kinda dropped the ball with my son because he has a ridiculously Italian sounding name and is the lightest featured child of all time. Oh well!

Anyways, there are a lot of factors to consider, but the most important is if you could picture yourself calling your child that name. When we found the name Luna, I cried instantly and just knew. I could call my baby girl Lu-lu, my teenager Luna, and that she would be able to introduce herself in a business meeting as Luna without feeling weird. I am still warming to Toby, but honestly think this one is a girl so I'm not too worried.

  • We're not getting deep into names until after the anatomy scan.  My lists are so long, but my H vetoes so many of mine.

Boys -- Colt, mn Tracey or Lee

Girls -- Eve Teresa, Lila Rae

@yogahh Ahh I love Bea!  I obviously am drawn to short names though.  Hasn't your mom ever heard of Bea Arthur??
    Me: 27    DH: 30
    Married in 2011
Baby 1: Stillborn at 27 weeks (April 2014)
    Baby 2: Due May 2016

  • @yogahh I love, love Bennett! Such a great name. It is unique without being youneek or hard to spell/pronounce. There is something kind of suave about it too, like I'd expect a guy named Bennett to be confident and cool. Bianca is one of my favorites too but the husband vetoed.

@laurenmdrn16 Luna & Toby are both really great! And actually I think they'd be great names for BG twins. I'm a big fan of Lu Lu as a nickname for a wee one - Lucinda is one of the top contenders on our girl list (after my mother) and I'd definitely call her Lu Lu!!

  • Jesse835235 , its not Bea she didn't like. It was Bianca. Bea Arthur is Beatrice. But I don't care. My baby, my name ;) MIL LOVES Bianca though.

  • @yogahh I love both Bea/Bianca and Bennett! We almost went with Bennett for DS since DH is Benedict (we didn't want to do jr.) We ultimately decided against it because we loved the name we chose more, and we wanted to avoid "Big Ben" and "little Ben" being Pittsburghers too.

We did some name shifting with our girl name... and landed exactly where we were 2yrs ago after going through a huge list of alternative middle names. Girl baby will be Guinevere Zelda (nn either Gwen or Vera). Boy baby will be Henry Edward. We have a one-syllable last name, so we weren't afraid to consider longer names. Thankfully the whole conversation was fairly easy. I did some preparation by having name meanings/reasons ready along with typed full names, initials, nicknames so we could get a fuller picture for each name. We also each had a short list from earlier of names we loved.

Suggestions that we followed that helped us each time: go with your gut, picture the name on the person, brainstorm how it might be used or abused, to picture the resume, and to actually yell it, say it, etc.
  • We found out we are having a boy, which is a challenge because I'm stumped on boy names. Right now I'm liking Jasper, Sebastian and Edison. MH likes William and Bjorn.
    Me: 38; DH: 41
    DS: Born 5-17-16

What about Liam? Shortened version of William but fits with the style of names you like.

  • @yogahh Liam is nice! Good idea!

  • My favs, hard to get DH to talk serious this early haha. His initials as well as his Grandpa's is JAV (Jesse Albert) Not finding out the sex until birth :)

Boy: Jaggar Albert or Jhett Albert

Girl: Cora or Grace MN Kasey (my mother Kathy + his mother Tracy)

  • We are having some trouble, and are team green so we need a girl and a boys name. I'm very particular when it comes to names, I get this from my mother. I like short and sweet first names that are super unique but aren't crazy unique. We were stuck on Rhett for a girl or a boy as a first name, then I met somebody named Rhett and it killed it for me. I need names picked out before baby gets here (we've got plenty of time) because my mom waited to figure out a middle name for my sister and now everyone despises her middle name (her name is Elke Merette) and I dread this happening. My mom says she was so exhausted after giving birth that when they came by asking for my sisters name, she just threw Merettr on the paper and said "her first name is bitchin', her middle name, I'll figure out whether I like it or not later".

As far as we go, we aren't speaking to DH's side of the family and I don't see that changing, so as much as I'd love to use my father and grandfathers middle name, James, I would NEVER hear the end of it from DH's family as to how we chose to carry on my family's names and not theirs. I think we will give our first boy my husbands middle name, so at least we've got that down!
  • edited October 2015
    Marley Rose for girl
    Zane Alexander for boy
  •  My FILs name is Milton. He said do NOT pass that name down. LOL No worries there! We will not discuss names until we find out the sex. My mom and stepdad came up with Drake. they obviously don't listen to pop music. I kind of like Dane. A family name would be Conrad Richard (middle names from husband's side and the males in my family). But not sure if DH will go for that. I also kind of like Travis. For a girl, I've like Camryn, but everyone tells me they think Cameron is a boy's name. I have no clue what my husband will like. I'm kind of scared to hear his ideas.
  • We still haven't come across any boy names that we both are crazy about but for a girl we like Zara or Dahlia. Well, for now anyway! I'm sure things will change down the road!

I know it's the #1 name for girls in the States but Sophia is my favorite for years. I really don't go with any trends and usually like something unique, but in this case we will stick to it - Sophia Pauline. My name is Kim Caterin and in Germany Kim was really not common at all. I guess my parents didn't think of me moving to the States.

For a boy I really like Connor or Bennett. My husband's name, Jet, would also be an option. Jet Jr. but he really hates this idea
  • Oh, for all the ladies that mentioned Ruby, I love this one! But my husband vetoed right away
  • For a girl we have chosen Adeline Morgan. They are both family names, and we love it!

Boy names stress me out. We made a long list and narrowed it down quite a bit when we were still TTC, but now I am not sold on any of them! DH loves Ronin, but I just don't know... Plus, Ronin means a warrior with no master. Can't you see a little boy using that against us one day??
  • We decided on Colton Alexander for a boy (Alexander is my husbands name but he goes by Alex) and we decided on Jade Marie for a girl.

@yogahh - Bianca is so not a made-up name! It's the Italian word for 'white,' sort of the Italian equivalent of the French Blanche. It's really pretty, but we have such an Italian surname I don't think I could do it. DH is campaigning for Giuseppe for a boy, however.

  • I like Charolette Marie or Nora Marie for a girl and Abraham Joseph- Abe (family name) for a boy!
  • It was a battle to come to an agreement on this, as DH is not a fan of conventional names. He was really wanting to name our kids after somebody of historical importance, or at least an interesting literary character. When he started suggesting GoT and LoTR names (Jorah and Thorin) I started suggesting the names of divorce attorneys lol!

Anyway, for now we are settled on:

    Aurelia Grace (Raley for short)
    Archer James

  • So far, we have only decided on middle names.  Elizabeth for a girl (DH's grandmother's first name) and Glen for a boy (my father, grandfather, and great grandfather's middle name - my dad had 3 girls, so he didn't get the chance to pass it on).  We are still completely undecided on girl or boy first names.
  • We have a few ideas...

Margaret for a girl (Nn Maggie, or no nn) in honor of great grandmother who has a special connection to the story of this baby. I also love Quinn, but dont think it can trump the emotional connection to Margaret.
Only boy name right now is also Quinn. I'd want to find a family middle name to pair it with...need to do some family tree research!

Thoughts? Surname is a classic, 2 syllable English/French surname this is currently a very popular male first name. DS is Davis.

  • Ruby Marilyn- both our grandma's name then my hubby's deceased mom for MN.
  • We are so undecided. We didn't name DD until the day she was born, Gwendolyn Fay, she goes by Gwen. Some of our thoughts so far for this baby, although we haven't discussed much:

    Boy:
    Henry
    Charles
    Logan

    Girl:
    Charlotte
    Cora
    Grace
    Kaylee
    Audrey
    Nora

No idea where we will end up, and we probably won't discuss it much until we find out the sex.

  • Boy: Harrison James (my grandfather +his father)
Girl: Madelyn Grace (not entirely nailed down on the spelling of Madelyn yet)
