breastfeeding vs formula bottles

Re: breastfeeding vs formula bottles

  • We used tommee tippee and my daughter never had an issue going between me breast feeding her at home and the sitter bottle feeding her while I was working. They also have an adapter you can buy to attach the bottles to any standard breast pump so you can pump directly into the bottles.

Where did you get the Tommee Tippee adaptor for breast pumps?

OP- I did what pp said and tried like 5 different samples bottles including the avent bottles I got from my shower. The Tommee Tippee ended up being the only ones DD would take and I know a lot of moms who breastfeed/pump and used them too.

  • I used the same nipple on what ever bottle it fit. So the bottle it came with and the bottle my my pump came with.
  • @Vitaluna Yeah that makes total sense! Thank you!

  • @egraves4 - I was totally with you on the nipple to bottle confusion, but it is all starting to make a little more sense now. Good luck to us all!

It sounds like I should also get a bunch of different types of pacifiers as well? Anyone have specific suggestions on brands that worked well for BF babies?

We went through probably a dozen different types of pacifiers and DD wouldn't take any of them until she started teething at about 9 months. Then she all of the sudden wanted it. Still the only ones she would take then were the MAM brand and the avent pacifiers. They are pretty similar.

You have to be a little more cautious with BF babies, because their need to suck is what helps built your supply.

We tried hard not to introduce pacifiers. After many a lengthy "comfort nursing" sessions at night when she was a couple months old, I tried desperately to get her to take one with no luck. Apparently my plan worked out too well, grumble grumble.

I don't think there's a paci that works better or worse. Like bottles, it just depends on your baby. Avent soothies are usually pretty popular.

We started with the soothie bc they gave them to us at the hospital. He would take them but the nipple is large and was hard to keep in. We tried a bunch but he ended up liking the tommee tippie the best. The only one I have heard to avoid while bfing is the nuk bc of the angled nipple.

  • We used Medela bottles so I could pump directly and then when I was done BF'ing, we still used them with no issues.  Neither one of mine had nipple confusion or an aversion to the bottles, thankfully.  Just make sure you get a nipple with slow flow first and from there you can build to the faster flows.

That is exactly what we did last time. Thank you.

  • My son hated pacis after the first three months but other moms suggested both MAM and Wubbanubs because the regular ones always fall out. Also, note that pacis have appropriate age ranges written on the packaging.
  • Thanks for the paci advice!
