@ahhhhmandax3 I see you, girl.. huge HP fan over here. :P
As for boy names, I may be biased but I love the name Elijah (nn Eli). That's my DS name! (;
Thank you! Haha. Neville is my Pug's name and I wanted Seamus for a son but turns out OH has a cousin named Seamus. Was also thinking Percy or Draco. OH isn't on board with my nerd status haha!

Well, As a teacher, you probably have unintentional stipulations with some names.... Like, if you had a "Mark" who was a total nightmare two years ago, you're probably like "OMGNOOOO NOT THAT KID!" Lolol :P

Haha if our dog was a female I wanted to name her Luna!
Lily & James are sneaky but lovely nods to HP also!
I LOVE the name Lily, unfortunately it's OH's nieces name. And I know way too many James' for it to even be a possibility. Plus, I despise the nickname Jim.

We have a Lily (Lillian) and DH loves the flower names so we keep joking about Petunia. How horrible would that be?!? But seriously, she used a lot of them - Lily, Petunia, Poppy, Lavender, Pansy...
DH's family has a tradition of using Louis L'Amour character names (big Western author)... so you get special things like Barnabas, and Deveroux in the mix...
We've been able to come to an agreement on a few boy names like Orrin Robert or Jasper Levitt.. but the girl names have been much harder to come up with (not too many female characters, and we REALLY want a boy)... but I think we've kind of landed on Cora Jean.
I have some Harry Potter names on my potential baby name list too.
My son is named Ronan. My husband suggested it and I kept mum about it being in Harry Potter until after he was born. I don't know if I'll be so sneaky this time around
I think we have decided on Miriam Renee for a girl and Rhys Seneca for a boy (Seneca was my grandpa's middle name). I also really like the names Sloane and Tessa for a girl and Oliver and Theo for a boy.
My brother's mn is Rhys. It's a traditional Welsh spelling (I think). My grandad was a Welsh immigrant. I think my parents looked for traditional names.
My BF and I can't decide on any names we both like, but I like:
Hubs doesn't like any of the names I've chosen but I told him, our baby is getting his awful last name so that should be enough lol. :P Girl: Sage, Delanie, Deliliah, Seneca Boy: Denali, Dakota, Ottawa

Sorry, but I've gotta say, I agree with your husband. And it's also pretty ridiculous to say that because it's his last name he has no say in his child's first name.
Well good thing were not in a relationship together lol cause your opinion is ridiculous to me. The names I chose are mostly according to my background Native American. It is also my culture for women to have the final say on family decisions. Sorry you don't get any of that.

BTW I never said he has no say. Notice I used the joking remarks.
@mrstrax I think you've just been introduced to a little snark. Provided she isn't beating her husband for not liking her names, I'd say her relationship is her business.

Meh, I'm not worried about snark. If you don't want people's opinions about your choices, don't post them on an online forum.
@AmadorRose exactly! (some people) just like to express their negativity more than positivity. I choose to keep negative opinions to myself if it doesn't affect me. Laughable moments are clearly more my style.

How would anyone get that when you didn't mention any of it? I have a lot of disagreement on names with my husband as well. I sometimes feel like my opinion should matter more, but I do feel bad at the idea of choosing a name he really doesn't like and I just keep thinking there must be some name out there we can both agree on. There are so many out there!

I thought they all sounded like Native American names. What a neat way to impart your culture - I actually really like Seneca and Delanie a lot. Seneca sounds like it could go boy or girl.. or no?
PS: It's not my culture, but I have the final say on most family decisions at my house too.
We have a daughter named Audrey, and if we have another girl, I love the name Adrienne, but DH isn't a fan because he thinks everyone she meets will do a Rocky impression ("Yo Adrienne!") but I'm still trying to convince him. I also like Adaline a lot for a girl. For a boy, I like Caleb, and DH likes Alexander.
As an Adrienne, I can tell you your husband is 100% correct about the Rocky references. I still love my name, though! I just usually humor them unless they repeatedly say it--then I tell them that I think it was a terrible movie and I spell my name the girlie way!
I had a dream we had a girl and my husband panicked while I was in the bathroom or something and told whoever you tell the name to that she was named Sheldon... So that's right out.
(and I'm definitely printing out our list once we get close and putting it in his wallet!)
I discovered Aria for a girl today, which I think is cute but not sure if pronounced Ah ri ah or ari ah? What do you guys think?
Aria is one of the trendiest girl names out there currently. It started beings Ed basically out of no where and has shot up the charts in moves of the hundreds and last year it was around 30. I actually like it but it's likely going to be dated in a few years due to the trendiness much like Jennifer
My DH and I both like Realtín for a girl - it's Irish and means 'little star'...pronounced Real-teen. I also love Seraphina but he doesn't the boys names aren't coming to us as fast!
I just feel like both parents need to agree on a name (not LOVE it but at least like it), and both should have veto power. It's a big decision! If my husband hated a name, I would be sad, but I would never try to force it. In fact, that happened with our first.
