NBR: Irrational fears? (Zombies y'all)

Zombies. Zombies terrify me. I often think about if the zombie apocalypse happened at a given moment, what I would do. Pack a backpack, grab my hatchet, non-perishable food, water bottle. Maybe I think about this far too often.

It's a running joke in my house, you never come home without a full tank of gas. Just in case of the zombie apocalypse.
My husband and I also sit at the breakfast table and discuss strategies for surviving in the apocalypse, seems silly but one day zombies or not we may actually have to use those strategies.

For real. We discuss strategy too! I bring it up with friends too... they should know if they're on my zombie team or not. Some friends are dead weight and I won't be trying to rescue them with my zombie survival skillzzzz.

When I'm not knocked up, I literally train for half marathons purely because I want to be in great physical shape for the zombie apocalypse. That is my only motivation. It's not about the health benefits or that it means I can eat more pasta... it's about the zombies.

As a side note, power to the mommas that continue to run while pregnant. At this point I think I'd just pee myself with every step.

Um that is AWESOME. I really wanted to do a secret bunker in our garage, but we live in a place where the ground water is too high.

A safe room?! Awesome! We have an "alternate location" if we have to get out of town, but no safe room. I have read a few SHTF books lately. Some are really bizarre, but some are good. They make you think about other scenarios and the hard decisions that have to be made.

Lol. I just told DH that I no longer am allowing myself to watch TWD or FearTWD before bed. I will from now record it and watch it the next day. I dreamt of zombies all night last night. I think watching those shows give me good strategies for what I would or wouldn't do in the zombie apocalypse.

We were at Lowe's this weekend and spent some time in the garden tools section picking out hatchets, axes, and other things we could use as weapons. We must have spent 20-30 minutes doing a cost/benefit analysis between a hatchet and an axe.

I also get some pretty stupid nightmares from zombie shows and movies, but I also loooooove them. I really want to teach a class on the International Relations of the Zombie Apocalypse a la this book - https://www.amazon.com/Theories-International-Politics-Zombies-Drezner/dp/0691147833

Any of you guys read World War Z? The book is awesome, the movie seriously did not do it justice! I have had nightmares since I was little about dinosaurs. Jurassic Park style, like a T-Rex wandering through my neighborhood and attacking the house etc.

Love World War Z - Max Brooks also wrote the Zombie Survival Guide (a gift I got my husband one Christmas, lol). And you're right, the movie was no where near as great as the book - I feel like I say that for most movies made from books.

I wanted to be a paleontologist when I was a kid. I think dinosaurs roaming my neighborhood was probably a fantasy, not a fear. haha!

No lie, husband calls on his way home and is telling me a story about some guy leaving his keys in his golf cart this evening and he starts to explain that he keeps everything in his golf bag and couldn't possibly leave anything, and he does this because, "If I'm playing golf and a herd of zombies comes walking out of the woods all I have to do is grab my bag and head to the truck and I'm good."
This is our life. LOL

Golf clubs are good weapons, but it made me LOL at the fact that he would want to bring his clubs with him. Part of me pictured a guy running with his golf bag over his shoulders, clubs clanking away. But I thought, "no, Courtney, I'm sure he'd drive the golf cart to his truck."

Zombies make me irrational at times!

Yes, loved WWZ. The book was great. The movie is tolerable if you consider it a completely separate thing and don't compare them. I also liked the Jakarta Pandemic. I think I recommended it to @whovian84 a while back. The author isn't a writer by trade so there is some stylistic stuff to overlook, but the story is great. I will never look at my neighbors the same way again. In an event, people are going to be just as awful as whatever catalyst creates the event (zombies, disease, emp). We haven't adequately made plans that include baby yet. So many extra variables and gear.

There is a tactical baby carrier on zulily today. I am tempted to get it for hubs but it is still a little spendy. Plus, I've never heard of the Mission Critical brand (as opposed to ergo, etc). So tempting though. He'd love it.

I LOVE YOU LADIES!!!! I feel like I have found my people! Hubs and I are like y'all. We strategize, plan, and talk zombie apocalypse a lot. When we built this house we sat with the floor plan and did a pro con list for zombie entrance and baracade. Not as good as our last place but we have plans in place.

I have a severely irrational fear of bees. Like, I avoid going outside in the spring and summer fear.

But back to the more important topic, the zombie apocalypse. DH has a good friend who has a shelter ready to go in the event of any kind of apocalypse. Enough canned good, water, etc. to last for over a year. And has a greenhouse for growing food, as well as an area for small farm animals for food as well. And it's all underground. We just have to get there, it's a few hours away. And DH also bought isolation suits and masks last year, in case we need to be careful what we breathe. He bought them when ebola was the big thing, but would probably also work well if the zombie virus was airborne...

@ssn109 Are you sure you invited to your friend's place? I'm not trying to be harsh but I know some of the hardest decisions to make in a disaster situation are about whether you have enough resources to take in varying numbers of family and friends.

No harshness taken! DH and he are little BFFs. They talk on the phone to each other more than I talk to my DH. And the friend has specifically told him that we are welcome.

I suppose things could change if the apocalypse actually does come. But that's ok, I am perfectly comfortable with looting if the occasion calls for it. And I have excellent aim with a gun and bow and arrow.

Now I'm getting jealous that I do not have a safe house or planned place to go in the event of the zombie apocalypse. DH gets back from a conference tonight - we'll probably have to talk about it over dinner! I did take up archery because I felt that my survival skills were lacking (and because I really like the Hunger Games... but zombies are more important).

It wasn't the zombie apocalypse, but a few years ago San Diego had a major blackout (for about 20 hours) and I had an empty gas tank. All of the gas stations were closed because of the blackout, no CC machines, etc. It was the scariest feeling. Being stuck somewhere in an emergency with no gas. So... PSA... never let your tank get empty!

Exactly!! It's a lot easier to plot and plan over breakfast for something that will (probably) never happen! If we talked about the real stuff I'd bawl in my oatmeal!

What is it about zombies that are so terrifying? I don't know if it's the new shows or movies out but I just can't find them scary lol. I imagine them being oh so very slow and weak.

I'm terrified of moths/millers whatever you want to call them. Keep those butterfly wannabes away from me! I'm thankful that I live in a city now and haven't come across too many.

Thanks to you ladies, DH and I discussed what we'd do if Zombies attacked, last night. We decided neither of us is in shape, I can't live without Internet and tv, we don't know how to provide for ourselves without stores, our good dog would get killed/turned into a zombie (don't know exactly how it works with animals) protecting us, our other dog would have the same fate trying to get pet by the zombies. So we'd just kill our pets and then ourselves.

We do not watch those types of movies and shows so we have no knowledge on zombies..... or vampires.
