I'm so screwed. I have tons of allergies to medicines and my PCP thinks I'm joking about stockpiling antibiotics for bugging out.
Is anyone else facing resistance on this front?
BFs grandfather is a transplant patient and always has to push for quicker refills in a normal situation because he often has to go a day without before they allow a refill. I can only imagine what a struggle it would be to stockpile.

Yes! I am allergic to most antibiotics. The veterinary ones that preppers usually discuss online are from one of the families of antibiotics I'm allergic to. Tragedy.
My DH and his friends talk about Zombie Apocolypse but I think it is just code for any mass hysteria like an incredible power outages, anarchy or whatever theoretically could go wrong in the modern world on a huge scale that lingers. As far as an actual zombie apocolypse I tell my husband I have no intention of working that hard to stay alive in a world that I no longer enjoy, so my plan is to be a "martyr" if it comes to that. My grandma says, "if it your time is your time, it is your time to go" which is pretty much my plan.
Idk what your allergies are. My sis is allergic to penicillin and so she has a mini stock of fish antibiotics (cipro I think). The fish antibiotics are in capsules that I guess are strong enough to treat a whole tank or something. They look like normal people antibiotics though. As long as you know the dosage and duration I think they could work just fine. They have Cipro, Clindamycin, amoxicillin, and azithromycin in the fish tablets. Most are human dosages already.

Yes, I am allergic to the amoxicillin/ penicillin family and sulfa antibiotics. I can take cipro so I will look for those. Thank you!

Crap. I'm allergic to all... I'll have to keep searching for another answer. Allergic to all of those plus Flagyl and a few others!

Wow Boston what antibiotic CAN you take? Are you limited to mostly IV antibiotics? I think you need to have a hospital in mind that you can loot pretty quickly.

@BostonBaby1 if you haven't already thought about this it might be a good time for you and your husband to practice putting in IVs. We've already mastered giving shots and performing small surgeries. It definitely made me feel more prepared.
Can you give me an example of a small surgery @kristen2b - I feel comfortable sewing up wounds, though I'd hate to do so w/o pain killers.
I had a tooth ache last year. Removed the thing myself. I didn't need it. And during some target practice I sneezed as I shot and accidentally got DH in the leg. He stayed pretty calm and together we removed the bullet and dressed stitched him back up. He's been complaining about some random back pain. I secretly hope it's his appendix so I can practice taking it out.
Definitely crazy. In all seriousness though I don't think it's a bad idea to watch some youtube videos on giving shots and running IVs. For the apocalypse. We aren't all super likely to run into a veterinarian that can fix us up on his farm.
We are strategizing for an emergency c section... Just in case. I am trying to find a pig cadaver for hubs to practice on. Any rns have section tips for non-medical personnel?
With my nursing experience I am pretty confident in starting IVs and shots and medicine dosing and alternatives. I to am pretty sure I can perform minor surgical procedures. Like removing foreign objects, suturing up, small amputations, and I can treat some pretty nasty wounds.

We need like a mean girls meet up place so we can all find each other.
Doomsday preppers what a great show! I especially love the off the grid houses. Man I want one of those. I grew up in a third world country with limited electricity, access to running water etc. I've harvested my own food and cleaned my own game since I was little. Girl if you can clean an iguana you can clean anything lol! I'm fairly confident I can survive trekking around and looting a la TWD. I know so many people that say they couldn't survive without AC. Yes you can! My man can shoot and my older brothers (definetly in the pack) have military training. I need to learn how to shoot myself. I'd love to learn how to clean wounds and sew them up. Definetly good idea to watch some YouTube videos. I have to say my weakness is cold. I have got to learn how to make fire! I kind of like @BostonBaby1 idea of stocking up on fine liquors lol! What the hell its the end of the world you better be drinking something good!
Things I will miss in the zombie apocalypse in no particular order: Air conditioning French fries Hot showers and toiletries (and running water in general) Cold prosecco Medical care (including contacts) Chinese food New books from favorite authors Pedicures
Things I will not miss: Political ads and campaign season Taxes Rush hour traffic and daily commutes Spam emails Having to figure out an outfit everyday (I figure I will have one pair of pants and 1-2 shirts)

I think the hardest thing for me would be the lack of privacy and having to go to the bathroom outside. Obviously the apocalypse is like childbirth, once you're in the middle of it all shame disappears. But as someone who's never gone potty outside in her life, that aspect freaks me out.
True Fear: I believe all the Meth users will be the zombies. I mean look at the ones who have been on it for a while.
1) they don't sleep
2) they don't eat
3) they hallucinate and have irrational behaviors
4) their teeth are like shrapnel hanging from their gums
5) They have sores all over them (like their skin is falling off)
Seriously I think that drug is going to tweak just a little and BOOM we have our zombies. I know heroin has some of the same effects but it is made from a plant and has been around for decades. Meth is made by chemicals and is fairly new and rising in popularity because it is easy to make and cheap to buy. (I know this because I know someone who was on this drug before... NOT me.)
There were a few cases awhile ago about people attacking other people and trying to eat their faces off. Turned out they were high on meth. I worked at a retail pharmacy and we would joke about how all the meth users and pill heads would be the zombies.
I had a great plan until this year. When I had the keys to the store I said we would gather our team and hide out there. Big metal gates on all windows, plenty of food and water, and all the medications. Now all I know is my team. My brother walked into my aunts basement and commented on my cousins bow. I said yeah that's why she is on my zombie team (she also has a samari sword and throwing knives that she took lessons with). He looked at me like I am crazy. I can't stand zombie movies or shows which he loves but I have always thought of my plan. I guess it surprised him. BF is a pro with guns and has more then enough. His uncle is great with a garden and could help us with that. I want a small team where every member has a part.
Ladies, don't forget to make sure that we have doomsday contraception and menstrual supplies. Everybody won't be pregnant forever. And after all, the more mouths that we have to feed the harder it's going to survive.
Yes, IV antibiotics work very well for me but there are a few others that I can still take. However there are few and far between and insurance gives a hard time to cover them. I may just have to take something that I have a lesser allergy to deal with the hives. I don't have a anaphylactic reaction to all of those. I guess I'll just bring a supply of steroids with me too. And maybe a few EpiPen's.
Don't worry all, DH is in medicine so he can start IVs. Unfortunately, I'm a very difficult poking I have a port… Luckily we also have stockpiling for a port access and tons of sterile supplies including masks and gloves and skin prep/cleansing agents.
I think in an emergency situation I'd think about one of those menstrual cups or some kind of other reusable thing. It'd be weird at first but I'd hate to rely on something that would run out! But contraception, that's a tricky one.
Actually I've been looking into a copper iud because it lasts so long and I'll want serious birth control after this baby so hopefully I'd have that if something happened
Guys. Think of how stinky the Virginias get in the zombie apocalypse. And the fromunda cheese on those cock and balls. That's enough birth control right there.

I use a menstrual cup. It is the best thing ever. One of the reasons I got it was a video about how helpful it would be during an apocalypse. As far as birth control I am also looking into the copper iud but I think that kristen2b makes a great point. If I can get to the pharmacy I have in mind then we would be all set either way.
