Myer for boys first name?

What do ya'all think of Myer for a first name for a boy? Last name starts with an M and is a rather long Russian name

so trying to spare the kiddo of having a long first name as well.
It would be Myer M*****ich

I know it's a rather rare first name....and commonly is a last name but similar to Thatcher and Carter etc (last names also used as first) I seem to like it. My DH is undecided.

Not a fan, sorry. I am not a fan of using surnames as first names in general. Myer also makes me think of Oscar Meyer.

It's not the worst thing you can do, but it is a last name and I just can't get behind it. It belongs in the last name category with Smith, Weston, Hudson, Talon, etc and should stay there IMO. I would definitely think that the parents of a Myer we're trying entirely too hard to be original and unique.
Also, my first thought would be that the kid was named after coach Urban Meyer.

This, also. I wouldn't want my child to land the nickname "Oscar Myer Weiner".

Maybe it's because I was a big Boardwalk Empire fan, but the only thing I think of with that name is Myer Lansky, the famous gangser.

I don't have a strict "no surnames as first names" rule personally, but I don't like Myer. Sorry.

That's our last name (different spelling) and co workers call my husband Oscar because two other co workers share his actual first name. He doesn't mind, but I don't think they'd stop if he did.
That being said, if you love the name and think it'll suit your little one then go for it.

I also vote no. Also that spelling kind of makes it look like a typo and a letter was forgotten.

I live in an area where Meyer is common surname /part of a surname. It makes an odd first name.

Thanks ladies! My husband will be relieved....no Myer in the running for names! Glad Eli had a better reception...Milo could be a possibility too.
