Anyone else feel this way? LOL

Yes! Although I can still tolerate eggs along with my ice cubes.

  • I had my usual whole wheat toast with PB this morning and it spiked my sugar to 142 :( its was around 130 yesterday (usually around 110 an hr after) and I blamed it on my tea but I guess I just can't eat toast in the morning anymore. Hopefully I can find something other than eggs to eat, I hate eggs first thing in the morning.
  • Started my glyburide (not sure on spelling) last night with my evening meal and finally had a fasting in the 80's!  So hoping this keeps up!  Now I'm going to experiment with breakfast more.  If my fasting's are lower I'm going to see if I can still get that coffee and sugar free creamer in!  The one time I tried I was over 120!

  • @jenspeake, that's great! But give it a week before calling it success. The suggestion my doc made, to take more insulin in the middle of the night...yeah. My fasting was frigging 120 this morning...........................................................

There aren't enough dots for how annoyed I am today. It's NEVER going to be under 90, what don't they get about that!?!?! My baby is healthy and my after meal numbers are fine, so LEAVE ME ALONE!

  • I hear you @FrozenMommy . Upped my night time by nutritionist to 18 units. Fasting was 89. With only 5hrs of sleep, which was shocking.
Fluid was low at 7 yesterday, I must up my liquid intake and stay off my feet.
Liquid is ongoing now, but my shower is this weekend so I dunno about staying off my feet.
Baby should be here before September 24th.
I will be awake for the birth and baby should be moving along just fine by then.
Next NST is Monday, hopefully fluid has increased by then

  • @MamaOwl15  I'm on 2.5, too... I feel better today and my fasting was 89 this morning!  After breakfast was 126, but I had two huge bowls of cereal... oops....
  • Anyone who is taking insulin noticed being hungier than usual?

I started taking bedtime insulin (NPH) on Tuesday. It is definitely working well go get my fasting numbers lower, but not too low.

This morning I had a fasting of 89, 101 after breakfast, 98 after lunch, and 78 after dinner. Has anyone found that bedtime insulin effects the rest of their day? I am only taking 10 units. Worried it may start to drop too low!
  • Omg! I started at 10 and had to get up to 40 before my numbers normalized!

You're doing great. And yes, the higher my dinner numbers, the higher my fasting.
  • Yes, bedtime insulin will effect your day. I had skipped a few nights before, just because I fell asleep and was too tired to get up and fill the needle, ok just being lazy, and it totally made my numbers higher. I'm currently on 88 units at night, and it's not helping for sh*t.

  • Does anyone know if I should still take my insulin like normal tonight if my sugar is 81? Or should I just eat a bigger bedtime snack with more carbs and then take my insulin? I know none of us are doctors, just wondering if anyone has had this issue and how to treat it.
  • If I were you @mrsfaust1432, I would just eat a bit more. You still should take the meds, but also if you can wake up and check your sugar. Are you on fast acting for meals? I ask because that can stay in your system for 5-6 hours. So if you ate a late dinner and went to bed early, it could still be in your system.

@FrozenMommy No, I am just on the long lasting insulin, just 10 units before bed. My last dose was last night around 10:15.

I just did some crackers and PB and had some powerade to get some more carbs in. I plan to test 15 minutes after and see if my sugars have gone up and then either eat more or take my meds.

I hope that is a good plan.
  • I just started having trouble keeping my breakfast numbers down. Anyone have any breakfast suggestions that don't include eggs? I have to choke them down :( I was eating whole wheat toast with a smear if PB before my numbers started spiking.
  • I eat protein bars for bfast. They are sugar alcohol, no sugar at all. About 20 g of protein and 20 carbs.

  • I've been eating an Adells chicken Apple sausage. If my fasting are pretty low I'll also have some blueberries. It's pretty hearty and I'm happy with the sausage for a few hours before I have my nut & cheese snack.
  • Thank you! I'm going to give those a try this week.
  • You know what else helps the eggs. I just made some for the first time in a week, and used pam...ick. Should have used coconut oil. The coconut oil makes them taste amazing!
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

  • Huh, I wouldn't have thought of that. I've been wanting to play around with coconut oil, maybe I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
  • Upped my meds today :((
  • I eat bacon! With eggs, if you can't stand them at all, I'm no help, but what I do is try to vary how I cook them -
Omlets or frittatas, topped with cheese, etc. though sometimes I just can't.

I've been able this week to eat Kashi waffles with sugar-free syrup as long as I've got bacon or eggs along with it.
Kashi waffles are extra high in fiber so I guess that's why I can handle those but not bread or Cheerios.

Also a big fan of chicken and apple sausage, though I usually have those for dinner.

  • I do OK with greek yogurt and Bear Naked granola. I can't stand eggs either. After the first week I was crying over my eggs and I was like I have to do something else!

  • I really do have the sweetest.husband.ever!! I pinned this recipe when I was diagnosed with GD and this morning I work up to my husband making these pancakes!! Not a Pinterest fail!! 2 carbs per cake and they are amazing!! They are not as fluffy as bisquick, more like a crepe but omg delicious!!! DH really knows how to start the day right after a terrible night of sleep!! Just love him!! :x
  • My hubby has been having a rough week so I took him a large Eileen's cookie to work yesterday. He didn't take the hint to share with co workers and brought the whole. thing. home. The struggle is real lol!
  • I gave in to a burger with bread buns and I did not look back.

  • My baby shower is this weekend.... I've decided that I left my meter at work
  • @MrsFaust1432 , my shower was last weekend. I did pretty good, considering I ate after everyone left. Nothing but snacks in the mean time, which was tough but everyone was tugging one way or the other for my attention.

    Have fun!

  • Well my kids party was yesterday. Took extra insulin and had sandwich, popcorn, cupcakes and a sno-cone. Got up to 160...I say that's not so bad for all I ate. But was also on my feet alot so it dropped quick. What a great day! I miss sugar...

  • I hear you @FrozenMommy. Lately I have given up. I feel so deprived that it is so tiring.
I just realized that I need to fast for 12 hrs prior to my c section and my sugar may take a tumble. I need to get this figured out tomorrow with the doctors.

  • Hey ladies!
I'm supposed to start 2 times weekly NST tests this week which are so hard to schedule since I'm still working. My doc also mentioned inducing me at last visit. I have controlled my gd so well with diet, exercise and night time insulin. I've had very few spikes and at ultrasound 3 weeks ago, she was measuring in 29th percentile. I understand induction if medically necessary, but they made it sound like I can't get to my due date or even a second beyond because of the fear of gd baby being too big. ?? Even though she's measure right on track, my levels are great, never any ketones, a1c measurements normal, and blood pressure always great too. I just really don't want to be induced if I don't have to. And btw I'm due on a Sunday so ya know they are gonna wanna do it on a weekday before! Anyone else having these same issues??

That sounds like my doctor and situation. My baby is measuring perfectly. She did say my placenta may age quicker with the insulin. It develops calcium deposits which is bad and the baby doesn't get enough nourishment from it.

However, an instructor in my childbirth class said to advocate for yourself if you feel like everything is normal enough and there's no reason to induce. They can't make you.

It may be that induction is the standard protocol. However you have to decide what's best for you.

I'll probably go ahead and do the induction if I don't deliver beforehand just because I'm already sick of being pregnant and I have 7 weeks to go!

I'm due on Halloween and they scheduled my induction for the week before. I don't want him born in the day or two before/after Halloween because I think it would be tough on a kid. So there is that reason too!
  • I wasn't advised that I be induced due to the placenta aging. It was presented to me as protocol. And since I'm on insulin I have no choice. Granted I would be a c section either way but the fear of a big baby is not in the realm. He is approaching 6lbs and I'm 36 weeks. Gained about a pound in the last 3 weeks only, since I'm trying to watch everything I eat. I feel as I'm depriving myself and baby of so many foods.
I will be induced on 9/24, unless my fluid levels get dangerously low before then.

  • @savesincity, I'm having a c-section 10/2, and I also can't eat for 12 hours. I was thinking that means I can eat whatever I want (within reason) for dinner the night before since my sugar will get really low by the time I get to eat again. Maybe you can splurge on your last pre-baby meal?

    a href="http://www.thebump.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Parenting Tips"><img src="http://global.thebump.com/tickers/tt1c2dc3.aspx" alt=" Pregnancy Ticker" border="0"  /></a>
  • Well my numbers creeped up some over the weekend. I misbehaved a bit on Saturday during a football party and it seems I can't get any of my numbers below 100. After my normal breakfast I was 132 which isn't horrible but I feel I shouldn't have a snack now. I'm not on meds yet and would like to avoid them but starting to feel like I should just give in so I don't stress about having some higher end numbers. Still haven't had any spikes over 165 but I hang around the 120-130 range more than normal after meals.
  • I fasted with my girls and my sugar was just fine. There really isn't a reason it would drop if you aren't on insulin. @beanie1977, I am due the same day as you, but my doc wants to wait until 2 days before!!! This confuses my body, I have always delivered at 38 weeks. My fluid is very high still, so I am kind of hoping she tells me 4 more weeks max. I had so much salt over the weekend, that my hands are a bit swollen, so hoping my BP hasn't gone up too. I have started, my own decision, taking 10 units of NPH with my Humalog at meals, to sort of help throughout the day, and yesterday it seemed to help. Still no word on the Levamir that they wanted me to get. Stupid insurance.

  • Well my fasting numbers are creeping up. They were low 100's fri-sun and today 110! Any tips? I'm currently non-medicated. Trying to remain that way because if they put me on meds the baby will have to go to NICU for 4 hours immediately following birth and while I know that's not the end of the world, it makes me sad to think about it.

  • There is a light at the end of the tunnel, ladies! I had to test twice during labor, and as soon as I was finished, I am back to eating whatever I want :) I do have to do a 2 hour tolerance test at 6 weeks pp, but haven't had to prick my finger since lunch the day I was induced! You all can do it!
  • @amorrison624
How was delivery? How was baby? Dr's seem to always give the bad consequences to me that I have stopped listening.
@FrozenMommy : I was told to take only half of my night dose. But I'm afraid I will be starving beyond help since I'm up at 730a and need to check in at 1130a at the hospital. I could always sleep in, but I will be a nervous wreck just on the regular routine that I fear forgetting something if I snooze more.

  • @MirandaC1984    Doc finally put me on a pill, Glyburide, to take with my evening meal and now my fasting numbers are fantastic!  Even allows me to now have ice cream at night!  They never told me that LO would have to go to NICU for being on meds?  Is this something that they told you?

After birth they are having me take my four blood draws one day a week for six weeks to make sure everything goes back to normal!

Thanks! I'm going to talk to my doctor about it on Friday at my appointment. In regards to the nicu stay, that's what I was told during my hospital tour last weekend. It's hospital policy for babies of Moms with medicine controlled GD to spend the first 4 hours in NICU for monitoring. I'm sure every hospital is different though.
