My UO: I think the "well, our parents did it with us, so it's fine to do today" argument is BULLSHIT. That may be, but our parents also probably had us forward facing in our car seats before we should have, smoked in front of us (in my case anyway) and let us play with toys covered in BPA. Not to mention, our grandparents probably didn't even use car seats with our parents and they were told not to breastfeed or touch baby too much, lest they get spoiled.
I don't see the point of the super detailed birth plans.
I mean I get having a general idea: meds no meds, minimal intervention, skin to skin, FFing or BFing, but the ones that detail EVERYTHING out are just crazy to me. You cannot control how your body is going to handle labor and I've known women who have gotten so hung up on their birth plan that they were not making the best decisions for themselves and their baby and / or have gotten super depressed about how the delivery went so off plan.

I agree to this to an extent, but I do agree with a decent portion of how I was raised. I never had many toys or clothes, and to this day I'm not materialistic at all. I did, however, spend a road trip lying on the floor of a van because there were 8 of us, 7 seats, and I was the smallest.

Preach! I think they're selfish and self absorbed. Have a general idea of what you want and communicate it in person. Then get baby out alive and as healthy as possible. My doctor told me they laugh at birth plans and many nurses have told me that nobody actually reads them. You're more likely to get what you want if you just tell them in a short and sweet way.

I think she was referring more to safety things, not value things. For example people saying they won't vax for chicken pox Bc we all had it. Well ha know what? Chicken pox freaking sucks. If I can avoid my kids from having it I will. If there was a vaccine for the common cold id get it even though they aren't fatal. Etc. some peoples arguments are like saying they didn't wear seat belts and they survived.

I am not against smack talk However, as each team provides, what, 6 game balls, I don't see how it would impact the outcome of a game. Plus he's not the only one. I mean Rodgers prefers his to be overinflated and I think has done that in past games.
Now dirty players like Suh, just need to be kicked out of the league.

I agree this isn't as bad as the Ray Rice thing. I won't go there, because that's another unpopular opinion.
I do believe Brady had knowledge or instigated the balls to be deflated. I think he's a smart enough man, with obviously enough money, he can make just about anything happen. He's a talented player who didn't need to do this/be involved. I get athletes are human too, but they should remember they are role models and what message is this sending?

Eh. He wasn't going up against a super tough competitor and they probably could have one that game if they threw wet noodles instead of footballs. I firmly believe that some locker room attendant was "trying to help" in a misguided way and it's pretty easy to believe Brady had other things on his mind before the game than what some random locker room attendant was telling him.
But, if you want to get into a football players as role models discussion, we should probably start with those that use PEDs and have horrendous off the field behavior.

And I had this on my mind because this girl I grew up with posted a picture of her not quite 1 year old (she turns one in like a week) in a forward facing carseat. Her sister turned her daughter around at the same age too. Not safe anymore guys!! I'm sure they use the "well we did it and we're fine" argument, but there's so much data about how much safer rear facing is now, it drives me nuts when people turn to forward facing at 1.
Speaking of Tom Brady, my UO today is I don't even find him attractive. Probably because I read a story once that he purposefully throws child like tantrums to get his wife's attention. True or not, it made all of his appeal disappear.

Nope not touching that. I have a feeling you and I are on the same page. They should all be held responsible but where do you draw the line in right and wrong?
@Ready4theparty Good question. But I don't think Brady did anything, so we clearly disagree on that. But there is A LOT of cheating in the NFL. To me, it feels like they're trying to make an example out of the Patriots. Check out this site: https://yourteamcheats.com/

Yes!! I'm in a mom fb group for my town and if a younger mom asks about crib bumpers, putting a newborn on their stomach to sleep, using blankets in the crib, etc. they always use this argument for giving awful advice! I always figured God forbid something happened to my son and I wasn't following all the recommended guidelines to try and prevent it, idk how I could live with myself.
Yeah I judge anyone who turns their kiddo FF before two. There's just not a reason that is more important than your child's life. My son is still RFing at 2.5 and I will wait as long as i can before turning him.

This, especially considering speed limits are faster than when I was a kid and therefore injuries would be far worse. I had the varicella vaccine as a teenager, I think, because I didn't catch it when I was a kid, and I'll probably go that route. I do think that the best way to have healthy kids is to let them eat dirt; I've found that the parents who obsessively disinfect are the parents with the sickest kids.

We tuned DS just after 3 because he maxed out his RFing limits. It is 500 times safer to RF people! (This reminds me, I should bump my car seat post) Also, I have to pick up way more dropped stuff now with DS FFing

Yes. I am cool to agree to disagree on this one.
The Patriots have gotten a bad name over the years and most of it unfairly. However they always seem to be in the midst of some scandal or have players who are big babies, bad behavior, ect. No offense when they lost the super bowl a few years ago Brady and his lovely wife were not gracious with the loss, which tainted my opinion of him.

Feel free to judge. We turned DD at about 1.5 due to her car sickness. My family lives 3 hrs away and for long trips she would scream most of the way. FF fixed that. I don't live it but DH doesn't do vomit well.

If my MIL or SIL tell me one more time that they loved being pregnant and that they really loved pregnancy boobs I will scream. They bring up the bust issue every single time and give me side eye when I tell them that it's not my favorite. I was a 32DD pre pregnancy so really I was fine I don't need them to be larger! They just look at me like I'm crazy for not wanting bigger boobs. So there is my UO - big boobs are a pain in the top.
Not trying to be sarcastic, I actually don't know... FTM here....but how does a 1+ year old fit rear facing? Where do their legs go? And what is the law for rear facing vs forward facing? Is it a weight/height requirement like booster seats?
Honestly I haven't thought about car seats other than the fact that I'll need to get one.

Our car seat has a 40lb and I think 40in height limit for rear facing, so there's plenty of room for a 1+ year old to stay that way. DS is about 31lb and 34in and he has more than enough leg room bc he usually sits with his ankles crossed. He's quite proper.

Ours also has 40 lb rear facing limit, and our 14 month old is 33 inches/26 ish pounds... He just crosses his legs a bit. He doesn't know the difference and it doesn't seem to bother him at all
An old coworker of mine recently posted a pic of her 8 month old FF, and she has been for well over a month to my knowledge. I hit her with a kind but firm knowledge bomb with resource links re: how dangerous (& stupid) FF at that age is. Not to mention illegal in our state before 1 yo AND 20 lbs. Her response? 'I got pulled over for running a stop sign the other day and the cop didn't say anything about her car seat!"
Hello girl, God bless our boys in blue, but not all police officers are specially trained to assess car seat safety. Just because I get away with something illegal in front of a cop doesn't make it alright or particularly safe.. and as a mother, it's OUR responsibility to take charge for our children's safety. I hate unsolicited advice as much as the next mother, but I just couldn't turn a blind eye to this.
I turned DS around at 11m-12m and I regret that decision. Hindsight is 20/20 and now that I know better, I will do better. I still worry about this girl's DD though. Sigh..

Laws vary by state, to the best of my knowledge. Indiana law is minimum 1 year AND 20 lbs. However, the AAPs most current recommendations advise until the age of 2 at the earliest, and to extend RF to the limit of your seat. Kiddos who RF extended periods of time are exponentially safer. They generally will sit 'criss cross applesauce' or 'Indian style' whatever you call it.
As they age and once your start FF, also go with the limits of your seat. My DS is still in a 5 point harness convertible seat and will turn 5 in January. As long as he fits, he sits. When we upgrade his seat, I'm torn between another 5 point harness seat with a higher weight limit or a belt positioning booster. He's a tall boy so we will cross the bridge when we get there.
