  • Same situation here sista!

  • Me too! I'm having the worst day ever. I'm 36 weeks and was just told I can only have 30 days off...so now I'm going to put my 2 weeks notice in and pray to God I don't go any earlier than that so I can finish on good terms.
  • I feel the same! I still don't know when to stop working. I assumed I'd work until the end, take my 12 weeks off and then go back. Now I'm not so sure.
  • I'm in the same boat! The worst part is I just took this last week off to finish up the nursery and now I'm dreading going back to work tomorrow with a passion. I don't think I'll be able to handle 9hr days considering most of my days off on vacation I was sneaking in a ton of naps because I'm no longer sleeping well at night. But I feel so much pressure to keep going because my sister is an ER nurse and she went right up to her delivery day on her feet for 10hr shifts. I don't know how she did it and I don't know if I'm going to be able to.
  • I thought I could too. I'm due 10/1 and was gonna work til 9/28. I changed my mind at the last minute my last day is now the 18th lol.
  • Ugh I know the feeling. I'm a server so I walk constantly and was going to try to make it to the first of October but the job stresses me out so much because people obviously haha I was put on bedrest this week because of high bp so I put in my two weeks! Come on September 22nd!
  • I'm still hanging in there, though the restaurant I work at is having renovations this week and I get a 4 day weekend which is nice, provided I can survive a 12 hour day when I go back. Some days are harder than others. As a waitress, i'm sure the physical nature of my job helps, but it also means I carry very low which is uncomfortable. We went for a nature walk today and I was ready to be done when the path ended.

I'm sure we all made the decision because we'd rather spend our leave with our new baby than turtling our way on and off the couch :)

Almost all of our "prepping" is done too, so there isn't much for me to do at home other than nap and look for snacks.

3 more weeks for me, but i'm still hoping for a late baby ;)

  • I am there with you ladies !!! I am on vaca right now to get the rest of my house in line. I am Almost there. I planned on working till this guy plans his arrival but it's getting harder and harder. BUT if I go out early, I am allowed to leave 2 weeks before my due date, then I have to come back early. I work in a supermarket in the bakery and I really don't want to come back to work right before Xmas. Not what I wanna do with a newborn and no sleep.

Umm.. Isn't that illegal or something? I thought the Affordable Care Act mandated that an employer must give a woman 12 weeks (Max) of maternity leave... Now, that doesn't mean they have to pay you for any of your time off.. But they are required to give you that.
  • Just remember, it's only a few more weeks.  I know it sucks, but it's almost over.  I'm a nurse, working exhausting 12 hour shifts on my feet most of the time.  It's not fun or easy, but I'm just counting down the days.  I don't have enough PTO saved up to take any time off before.  Besides, I think I'd drive myself crazy if I was sitting at home all the time.  Even on my days off if I don't have anything to do I'm going nuts right now.

I don't think so either. My employer is only wanting to give me 2 weeks off. If I don't come back after that two weeks I have no job. And my OB refuses to release me before 6 weeks so idk what I'm gonna do.
  • DH would let me work till I went into labor if we had it his way. I settled for one week before EDD will be my last day. Luckily my job is fairly easy, I have been lucky enough to avoid the stressful aspects.

Hang in there! You can do it !
  • I'm stuck working until I literally give birth. I'd rather save my 12 weeks of leave for when I actually have a baby instead of using it before hand. It sucks though.

  • Lol luv this post! Hit the nail on the head with this one. I'll be 37was Thursday and I told myself I'd work till the end to save as much time as possible as well as train my replacements while I'm out....I'm having a hard time working let alone training...my attitude has changed from proactive employee to...if they don't wanna learn then it's on them mentality. Can't beat it into them. Ugh but still so fustrating!! Between stressing about finances, insomnia, work, hemerriods, swollen lady bits, swollen feet, gestational diabetes, no caffeine, quiting cigarettes, no liquor, no shooting, no surfing, no theme parks..basically no way to blow off steam...I'm over it all lol

I'm 33w3d and already struggling. I do really well for about half the day, then I am way too uncomfortable and can't stand it. Im also not busy enough at work for me to justify staying all day when I have BH or just dont feel good. My bosses have been great with being so understanding with me being in and out so much but I know my paycheck is gonna suffer. How am I going to do this when I am even further along?!

I'm so ready to be done! I look forward to my appts bc I get to sit and talk about the baby instead of talking to customers all day. I take my time going and coming. Always look forward to my weekends and naps. My doctor wants to induce me first week of October and I'm excited bc I get to lay there! Lol I'm not going bk to work until Jan. I may work here and there for Xmas money but as soon as October 1...12pm CST comes around--I am gone!!!! :-h
  • I totally feel your pain! I'm 34 weeks right now I want to work up until I deliver but oh my gosh it's horrible. I'm worn out my back hurts, my little one is constantly kicking and rolling around I really don't know how I'm going to make it :-S

I am not aware of any provision in the ACA, my leave is covered under FMLA but I don't think that the law applies to small employers. https://www.dol.gov/whd/regs/compliance/1421.htm ETA- good luck that seems like a crappy policy.

Yes. Not the ACA, but FMLA... As long as you have been there a year, your job should be safe or it's considered discrimination. I have ACA on the brain because of a issue I have had with my employer on insurance.
  • My plan was to work until next Friday (18th Sept) but it's been getting harder and harder and now I have high BP so I have to finish a week earlier on this Friday.

On one hand I'm like 'yayyyy no more 5.30 starts' on the other I kind of feel like I'm wasting my time when this time.off could have been spent with my newborn.

But if my dr says I have to then I have to. Health first, right?

The HR lady said they don't have to hold my job because I haven't been there 12 months which is what you have to have to get the FMLA that secures your position. :/
  • Unfortunately I am working until the end...I qualify for FMLA but can't afford to take off 12 weeks unpaid. So I am taking the 6-8 weeks I'll have paid through short-term disability, and I can't start that until I go to the hospital to deliver! :(

If your employer is large enough to be covered under FMLA, they cannot do that as long as you have been an employee for 12 months and accumulated at least 1,250 hours of service. They are required to return you to your old position or a position with similar responsibilities and pay. They don't have to pay you for any of those 12 weeks, but they can't just fire you.
  • 4 weeks sound a hell of a lot closer then 30 days but still why did I think I could make it!!
  • Ugh I know! 36 weeks now.. School just started again and my building is SO hot! I'm due on Monday the 5th and working until that Friday the 2nd. I need the days for when the baby is here. I'm counting down!
  • I am working until my water breaks at my desk haha. I work for a small company and only planned on taking 6 weeks off anyway and doing some at home work towards the end to help with lack of pay. The guy that basically does exactly what I do and we can never be gone at the same time decided to put in his 2 weeks notice. He is doing it to be a vindictive asshole. We got into an argument several months ago and he made some smart ass comments about quitting right before my leave. I knew he was an ass but he's claimed to be my friend for the last 4 years not to mention all the our boss has done for him and then he goes and does this. My boss would never ask me to.come back early but I know they will be drowning with both of us gone so I am hoping to do what I can from home but don't want to miss out on my experiences with my newborn son either. Ugh...like I needed added stress 33 weeks pregnant.
  • I have a desk job and am only 32 and a half weeks...how am I already dying to be done?! You ladies impress me who are a few weeks ahead and on your feet all day.

I'm taking the week off before the due date, so 10/23 is my last day
  • Hang in there ladies! I just started at a new school with first grade today! It was such a great day, but I am so tired now.
  • I manage a subway and 9 hours a day on my feet are starting to kick my butt. Today was my first day downright exhausted with only 3.5 hours of sleep and today was rough. You nurses are so impressive!! I can't wait to be off work!
  • Yeah, I think I am getting to that point! I am 34 weeks and a teacher. I am planning very carefully so that I can sit down enough during the day. I'm glad that I'm working because it helps the time go by faster, but I have a feeling that in 2 more weeks, I will be so done.

I'm mostly a desk worker, but I can no longer find a comfy chair in the office! Thankfully, I am in property management and literally got the exercise ball from the gym to put at desk! My LO is coming at 38w1d and I am 36w3d. 12 days to go, seven working days left.
  • My maternity leave starts one month form todayyyyy!!!! Really hoping to make it to 39w2d at work. So far my body is handling work just fine, but I'm hoping baby stays put until 10/10 or later. Then I don't have to go back until 1/4/16 :)
  • I have to get up from time to time and walk or my feet will get super swollen. My hips hurt everyday. I had my OB appt this morning and I'm 2cm and thininng. So I may not make it to October. My baby shower is this weekend and my son turns 9 on 26 so his brother may be born before his big brothers bday.
  • I swore I'd work until I popped because I don't get paid maternity leave, but I would give anything to not go in to work anymore. I've become the cranky pregnant lady I swore I'd never be.

My understanding is that FMLA has exceptions for when your position is considered crucial to the company's wellbeing. I'm just another waitress so my position is not crucial to operations. A CEO or high ranked management would be considered crucial.

Same thing over here! Last day is 10/16! I have a sticky note count down on my desk... 26 work days left. Healthy pregnancy but a difficult one. I feel  like people forget that it can be both. I really, really, REALLY don't know how I'm going to make it but somehow will!
  • I work from home and I cannot wait to start my leave. My last day is sept 29th. I would've kept working until my water breaks if they would give me an earlier shift but working till 12-1Am is taking a toll on me. It's football season and they couldn't change my schedule. I get no sleep at night and can't always nap during the day since I have a toddler.
  • After reading all our posts---these partners of ours have it so easy. The only thing they need to worry about right now is that phone call or that slap to get up bc were in labor. They don't have to worry about getting up to pee in the middle of the night or stretching this or that. When I deliver I'm going to make him pay! Lol
  • Totally feel you I left at 35 weeks I just couldn't do it anymore. My first day off was yesterday and I couldn't believe how good I felt... When I was working I could hardly walk by the time I got home
