Tuesday Randoms

What's on your mind?

My random: I made the mistake of reading through comments in a news story about New Jersey's new car seat laws, and I cannot believe the righteous indignation people are expressing on the topic of chid safety. Can't we all agree that new child safety regulations, based on the newest and best research, is a good thing? Sure, you never wore seat belts when you were a kid in the 80s and you turned out just fine. Dumbest argument ever. Congratulations on being lucky, I for one will pay attention to the recommendations to keep my child safe.

Re: Tuesday Randoms

  • Usually I'm able to fall right back asleep the many times I wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom but the last week or so I've been having a hard time falling back asleep after my 4 am wake up time!  Me so sleepy!

I am sooooo thankful for Pepcid, no more taking tums four times a day and being woken up with heartburn....just woken up to pee ;-)
  • So, back in the day, I researched my OB choice very carefully and found someone who was (and is) the perfect fit. I wrote down his office address and drove to it, only to discover that the structure looked very familiar, in a TV kind of way... It took me two or three minutes to realize that it was because his practice is in the Ebola hospital. ;) Somehow, that was not mentioned on his website. ;)
  • Lol are you in Dallas?

  • Lost ALL my post-baby freezer meals! :(( Experienced my first extended power outage...and it sucked. That goodness it wasn't freezing or sweltering with heat here! The power went out at about 10:30am on Saturday (mid breakfast prep for my toddler and hubs) and it didn't get restored until yesterday!  With almost 3 days with no power, all my fridge, freezer and deep freeze food was spoiled. I just spent the last couple of months baking and cooking to stock up my deep freeze with post-baby meals and snacks....all garbage. So disappointed, I don't think I'll have the time and energy to make up all those lost meals/snacks....Grrrr!!

    Nooooooo!!! :( That's awful!
  • I live in NYC, so we have what is called alternate side parking, where you have to move your car to one side of the street for a period of time for garbage collection, street cleaning, etc. I turned the corner and saw a space, so I pulled into it... no biggie right? Well apparently some lady had just gotten into her and wanted that spot. She was across the street and at least 20 feet away so why she felt this spot was hers is beyond me. She actually had the nerve to pull up next to me as I gathering my things and give me a look so I looked right back at her! I left my car but remembered I left my house keys in the passenger seat and not only was she still there she had what appeared to be a note in her hand. As soon as she saw me return she pretended she had to get something from her back seat and gave me a sarcastic smile, and I gave her my best "b*tch I may be pregnant but don't try me" look and continued about my business. I won't know if actually left the note until I go get the boy at 5 but if she did Im trying my best to fight the urge to write "you are a dumb *ss for starting with a pregnant woman who doesn't even know your dumb *ss existed for parking in a spot that was available and you were at least 20 feet away from IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION!!!!"

This is so sad.. I'm sorry

Ugh! I'm so sorry! That is awful. : (
  • @MommyPhoenix oh no!!! That sucks so much! I am so sorry!
  • @MommyPhoenix how horrible! I would cry. So sorry mama!
  • @tate62610 - Yup! As it turns out, Texas Health Presbyterian also has 100+ OBs handling over 5k babies a year in their super schmancy Margot Perot (yes, that Perot) Birth Center. It's where all the rich people go to have their babies. Who knew? (They are mostly all still wearing #presbyproud buttons.)

@MommyPhoenix - Oh no! That's THE WORST. Time for lots of frozen pizzas? :/ Or friends?

Also, to add one more random: I just got a sonogram and the baby is currently 34.2 and SEVEN AND A HALF POUNDS. The sonographer said he did not think I would make it to mid-October, but unfortunately my doctor left for a delivery right before he saw me, so I couldn't ask him for more info or how likely that is to be true. I am totally down with her coming earlier, but THAT IS A LOT OF POUNDS.

  • Aww, thanks for all the sympathy over my lost food! :) I'm guessing it was about $800 in food alone. We're trying to put in a claim for the food since my house insurance will cover it deductible-free, however, if it ends up affecting my premium it may not make sense to claim for it...frozen pizzas it is!

  • @MommyPhoenix wow that's a lot of food! Sounds like you'll be able to recoup the financial part which is good (I'd be bawling if i lost $800 worth of food!). But all that effort . . . So sorry to hear.

  • @MommyPhoenix - so sorry to hear this. You are a trooper! That would just make me sick and want to take a nap.

I got a milkshake on the way home from work last night from this REALLY good ice cream place...they are kind of expensive but I just needed it so I went for it (I usually make them at home). I only had a few sips so I wouldn't spoil dinner, so I put it inthe freezer.

WELL I went in to grab ice after supper for ice water (baby boy didn't give me his kicks yet, or I was too busy all day to count) and the milkshake fell out! Chocolate milkshake EVERYWHERE! I ugly cried for a solid 20 minutes about it...

DH was so sweet, came running in cleaned it all up, hugged me and offered to get me a new one. I was so mad that it happened, and so cheap, that I said no. He didn't even make fun of my tears haha he agreed, spilt milkshake IS upsetting!!
No judgement at all. I splurged on a chocolate pudding at whole foods and then declined the ten cent bag (Los Angeles law), thought I could balance the pudding on my sushi box and proceeded to drop the pudding in the middle of the parking lot.
    :((
  • Another random...
My mother has bought almost everything on our registry – and more. A lot more. There are maybe 10 relatively inexpensive things left (swaddlers, crib sheets, etc). This is her first grandchild and she's excited...I get it. She has good intentions but is being very overbearing. My shower is 2 weeks away and she doesn't understand why more hasn't been purchased off the registry, so she just keeps buying. I have been telling her that most people buy stuff a day or two before the shower and not to worry. But now my fiancee is starting to get insulted. He says, "doesn't she think that we are capable of buying things for our own baby?" And "What about my family? They want to buy stuff too." His parents are a lot older and have 5 grandchildren already, truthfully they don't have as much money to spend as my mom. But I specifically told my her not to buy the video monitor we wanted, because his mom wanted to buy it for us. Well, she went out and bought it anyway. There is not much more "big" stuff left that we need and now his mom feels bad. I have told mine a million times, please stop buying things, at least until after the shower. She doesn't listen and I don't know what to do. I don't think she's purposely trying to show up his parents, but that is how it's starting to look.

Hopefully this doesn't sound ungrateful. I appreciate what my mom is doing...it is all just very overwhelming and I feel like I'm trying to please a million different people.
  • @VioletandRose You so don't come off as ungrateful. Your mom is totally excited though, which is super sweet, but at the same time it's going to make people nervous once they go to buy something and see everything is gone!

  • @VioletandRose Aww, it sounds like your Mom is just so excited and can't help herself! I can see the frustration in that too though. A lot of items on my registry for DD were bought a day or two before so that might pose a bit of a problem for the guests of your shower. I'm sure she's not doing this because she thinks you and your fiance can't afford it, I think she's just getting caught up in the excitement. Hopefully, it will all work itself out...maybe you can suggest to your Mom to hold off on anything else because you'll need a lot more items later on once baby's here? Like, toys, feeding accessories, clothing, socks and shoes for when your LO is 6-12mos, 12-18mos old? She can go to town on purchasing those for you, if she likes! :)

  • My random:

Mosquitoes. are. the. DEVIL!!!! I can't even count how many are all over my legs and my feet! Oh, my poor feet! As if they weren't swollen enough. But what makes it fun is that multiple times a night they get all itchy and inflamed to the size of a nickel and I can't sleep or get them to stop itching!!!!

Also! I get to go see Straight Outta Compton tonight... in a group of 3 women... 2 of whom are pregnant... it's hilarious and delightful.
  • VioletandRose my mom has bought us tons of stuff too.. before our showers she checked our registry daily lol! At least your mom is buying stuff you guys want off your registry and just buying anything, that is a bonus!

I WISH my in-law's would buy us... SOMETHING. My MIL told us she wanted to "wait and see what we got at our shower before buying anything."  All she had to do was look at our registry to see what was left. Now that our showers are over, we purchased everything else we need so I'm not sure what she plans to buy us now? I'm almost terrified because it's definitely going to be whatever she thinks we need and not something we want.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @VioletandRose my mom is the same way! She bought us the crib, the dresser, a decorative rocker, and a high chair. We bought our own glider and she keeps offering to give us money for it. If she asks one more time I'm going to take the cash and run! Then at the shower my mom bought us some clothes.. The weird thing is she wanted me to announce at the shower that she got us other stuff too -- I didn't say anything it was too awkward!

I am terrified of what she is going to be like for her grandchildren at christmas. But I know that gifts are my mothers love language so I try my best to just accept it.

I never thought about it, but I guess this applies to my mom, too. Gifts are her love language and I just have to accept it.
I'm sure that I'm the only one thinking about this so intensely. I'm just hoping to get through the next 2 weeks until the shower, and I'll tell her again to stop buying things. At least until Christmas, lol. Thanks so much, everyone :)
  • Tuesday ransoms:

I really, really, really want some chocolate milk. But this would involve a trip to the store just to buy sugar-free chocolate syrup. Not happening.

Also, I just got a notice in the mail that I owe $50 for accidentally running a red light at a place where there's a camera. My husband looked at the time and day and knew he was at work, so it had to have been me on the way to an OB appointment. It's legit but still annoying.

My Tuesday random: I feel cheated by a vending machine at work. I went and got a Hershey bar with almonds. There were only 2 almonds in the whole thing. -.-
