Gtky Sunday

I googled and found random questions.
The board has been slow so I thought this game would be fun.

What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read?

What did you want to be when you were little?

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Re: Gtky Sunday

  • Fave author: everything by Dorthea Benton Frank- she writes about the low country in a way that makes me feel like I'm there

Child future: I feel old because I can't remember :)

Help: definitely cleaning. I'm like a child- find something I haven't seen in forever and get distracted for hours

One meal: I say pizza and salad- so many varieties!

  • What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read?
I'm not an avid reader but my favorite book that I've read was this lullaby or lovely bones. All I've read lately are informative books or basically an autobiography

What did you want to be when you were little? I wanted to be a teacher for a while, I definitely am not. I couldn't handle how naughty kids are and how they basically get away with it because teachers can't do anything and some parents don't believe their child is evil.....

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?
Cleaning! We don't have a yard as renters now and I love cooking!

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Non pregnant me would say my favorite meal is thanksgiving dinner! All of the turkey, stuffing, cranberries, potatoes, gravy, corn, buns, pie, yummmmm
  • Terry Pratchett. I still have to read his latest two but he's dead now so I don't want to finish them!
    A reiki master.
Cleaning. I'm pretty good at cooking and have no yard so that narrows it down! I do hire my mom occasionally to come and clean my house.
    Tacos! Hard shell only.
  • @wisco29 I read The Lovely Bones for the first time this summer! It was so good but so sad!

Also, yes to Thanksgiving. It's almost Thanksgiving, right?
  • What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read? Jodi picoult is my favorite author. I try to read as many of her books as possible. My favorite books are the Harry Potter series

What did you want to be when you were little? I basically wanted to be my mom lol I wanted to become a nurse and be just like her. Even though I ended up being her carbon copy, I'm not a nurse

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work? Omg 1000% cleaning. I hate hate hate hate it! It's so boring and I feel like as soon as I'm done, it's dirty again.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? It would probably be Mac and cheese. It's cheese and pasta, which you can't really go wrong with
  • cantobean said:

    4. An everything bagel with lox, cream cheese, fresh sliced tomato and red onion.

I discovered lox on my honeymoon and ate it everyday haha. I wish we had places that carried it close by!
  • @wisco29 ohhhhh I forgot about thanksgiving dinner. All of the things!!

Looks like all for cleaning now lol- not a shocker!!!

Yah it's good and sad- the movie doesn't do it justice at all! I remember being super disappointed in the movie.

Mmmmm I want all of the turkey and potatoes and stuffing mmmm and lots of gravy now that I typed it all out

The board has been slow so I thought this game would be fun.

What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read?
    -retail hell
-belly laughs by jenny McCarthy was really funny when I read it during my pregnancy

What did you want to be when you were little?
    -a teacher

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?
-we already have house cleaners so by default, I'd have to choose that. But ideally, I'd rather have someone cook for me. I'm an awful cook and it'd be much easier to eat a healthier diet if I had someone to prepare it for me.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
    -cheeseburger & fries!

  • The Razor's Edge by W. Sommerset Maugham. But really it's a tough call. Fountainhead has always been at the top of my list and it wasn't until recently it got pushed down.

When I was little, I don't really remember wanting to be anything in particular. No fun answer here!

I hate cleaning and we do pay someone to help with it. Wouldn't change that.

My food preferences are skewed right now. Normally I'd pick a variety of meat and cheese plates with yummy things to pair and wine I think. Right now all I can think of is watermelon and gummy bears!

  • What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read? Super nerdy but I love fantasy and science fiction. My favorite author is either Anne McCaffery or Orson Scott Card. I love a good book series, more books = more time engrossed with the characters. My favorite books are probably the Dragon Rider series by Anne McCaffery.

What did you want to be when you were little? I wanted to be a doctor until I hit high school. When I took an anatomy class I changed my mind, I hate memorizing and didn't want to stay i school long enough to earn and doctorate.

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work? Definitely cleaning, the others would be nice too but I detest cleaning the most.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Either spaghetti or sandwiches, if I could change the content then I would choose sandwiches.

  • 1. I can't pick one. Or even two. Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter, and Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials series are the ones I reread most. I also love The Book Thief, Lamb: the Gospel according to Biff--Christ's Childhood Pal, and anything by Kate Morton.

    2. I really wanted to be a scientist like my uncle.

    3. Cleaning help for sure. Though if we had a yard, I'd change my answer :)

    4. Pre-pregnancy: sushi (particularly tuna--and then I'd die of mercury poisoning, but what a tasty way to go) Now: steak tacos from Chipotle. I used to hate chipotle and now I use any excuse to go. Thanks, baby!
  • What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read? I really like Michael Pollan's books, probably because I like reading about food

What did you want to be when you were little? A professional basketball player, then an accountant, then a firefighter. Never came close to any of those things haha

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work? Definitely cleaning. I like cooking and hubs does the yard (except I do the pool)

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Hmmm... Any and all variations of nut butter and honey/jelly/fruit sandwiches :)

    Dean Koontz anything.

What did you want to be when you were little?
    A Doctor.

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?

    Fajitas

I love to read and right now am on a young adult kick since I use my brain too much at work. I don't have a favorite, but love Rainbow Rowell's "Eleanor and Park" and "Fangirl".

I have always wanted to do something with animals and I do!

My husband does most of the cooking and yard work, so I would have to say help cleaning! I just haven't been up to it these last couple of months.

If I could only eat one meal for the rest of my life it might be this lemon tuna pasta that my husband makes or maybe I'm just craving that right now...
  • What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read?
I do not even know, I couldn't ever pick one book or author.

What did you want to be when you were little?
A Figure skater and a judge.

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?
Cooking, I couldn't stand someone else cleaning my house.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Stir fry, because you can do it a million ways
  • What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read?
Absolute favorite book is Pride & Prejudice. I have too many authors I love, that I can't pick a favorite. I've been on a Liane Moriarty kick, her books are great.

What did you want to be when you were little?
    School principal or social worker

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?
Hands down, yard work! I've got a black thumb

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
My mom's homemade chicken pot pie

  • My brain is toast right now so I'm going to say Nancy Tillman children's books. I love them and love reading them to my daughter.

I wanted to be a vet or nurse. I was a CNA for a few years and loved it. I did nursing home, assisted living, Alzheimer's care, hospice, and home care. I decided against pursuing nursing but would love to be the activities coordinator for a nursing home in the future.

I would pick cooking. Hubby does most the yard work and I actually enjoy cleaning.

    Salad varietys and ice cream!
  • I'm gonna just admit here that I skimmed through everyone's posts to just read the books they chose. LOL!!

What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read?
Harry Potter series are my favorite, as well as anything by Dean Koontz. :)

What did you want to be when you were little?
So many things! I think the earliest I can remember was wanting to be a school guidance counselor.

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?
Cooking definitely, I hate cooking. But that mean she has to wash the dishes too, hahaha. Or cleaning would be good, I hate washing the floors and stuff.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Velveeta (Mac and Cheese) or pizza! Or grilled chicken salad with Italian dressing and a baked potato on the side. :)

  • What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read? I may still say my favorite was the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but in general I like to read urban fantasy (magic, magical creatures, werewolves, vampires, creatures, oh my). I prefer little love stories within the world the author creates but I'm not particularly partial to anyone.

What did you want to be when you were little? A vet.

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work? Cleaning!!! I don't mind yard work and cooking is always better when the place is clean!

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Ugh, I couldn't! I'd throw up. But if I have to choose, cheese fries. But with the caveat that I won't get fat or heart heart disease and stuff.

  • What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read?
    - My all time favorite book is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. If I had to pick a favorite author, I guess I would say Jeffrey Eugenides or Edith Wharton.

What did you want to be when you were little?
    - A psychologist, not what I wanted to be when I actually grew up!

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?
    - Cleaning!!! I don't mind cooking and we live in an apartment, so there are gardeners who take care of our small yard already.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
    - pancakes, hash browns and eggs, hands down.

  • Favorite book: after reading all yours I'm embarrassed to admit this but I'm on a Young Adult kick. Like young adult romance smut and even sometimes the vampire crap (no, not twilight.. I haven't gone that far into the deep end). Not much for substance but soooo good. Not sure if I can think of an all-time favorite right now though.

As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a psychiatrist. I've always had a weird fascination with psychology and how the brain works. I actually started down that path in university but lost my motivation and haven't done anything past my bachelors.

Hired help: cleaning. For sure. I follow my two toddlers all day long and still have a disaster to clean up at the end of the day. And I really, really hate having a messy house.

Food: pizza. I really think I could eat pizza everyday, it's just so good.

  • What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read?
Jennifer Fulwiler's Something Other Than God. It's amazingly honest and beautiful.

What did you want to be when you were little?
An engineer. (I was that determined little girl.) I got my civil engineering degree and realized I'd rather be a SAHM.

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?
Cleaning! I'll spend the day outside working in the garden and tending to the chickens or cooking a three course meal but please don't ask me to mop or do laundry.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
    Sandwiches :-)

  • Sorry I am a day late on this one, but I love this!

What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read? I love James Patterson and could read all his books! They are wonderful :)

What did you want to be when you were little? I always wanted to own a bed and breakfast or be a teacher; the teacher part worked out!

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work? I would have someone clean for me. I hate cleaning and frankly I am not that great at it. I love to cook and DH does yardwork. It would work out perfectly, haha

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? I would eat cereal forever because I LOVE cereal.
  • What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read?
It completely depends on my mood. Sometimes I like a faster read like Jodi Picoult or a fluffy read like Jennifer Weiner. But I also like Jonathan Safran Foer and other random authors/books.

What did you want to be when you were little?
A vet and a cashier.  Ha!

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?
We do hire someone to do the yard work because I absolutely hate it and so does my SO. We also have someone help with cleaning at the house we live in, but I still also have my previous house because I haven't sold it yet and I clean that house. I hate it, so I try to just clean it a little at a time to avoid one big weekly clean. I really should just give up on it since no one even lives there, but I'm OCD. Ha. I'm hoping I can empty the house out and sell it soon so I can be rid of the chores that come with it. In terms of cooking, I don't mind it, but I don't do it too often. We eat out way too much. So, I guess all of the above. :-P

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I couldn't! I tend to get really obsessed with something (sushi and grilled chicken were my most recent obsessions) and eat it over and over. Then I get super sick of it and can't look at it for a while.
  • What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read? Oh man, I ADORE Maggie Stiefvater because her books (especially the Raven Boys series) are just amazing and I'd love to write like she does. Stephanie Perkins, Gayle Forman, Diana Gabaldon. Really, my list could go on and on.

What did you want to be when you were little? A Vet. I got so far as majoring in Pre-Vet/Wildlife Sciences/Zoology in college but changed my major because I decided that I didn't want to work outside in Alabama.

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work? Cleaning. I don't mind cooking but loathe the clean up and the dusting/scrubbing. H does the yard work.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? It feels like I've been eating nothing but pizza this entire pregnancy (oh wait, I have been) and I don't hate it yet so I guess pizza with an Icee

  • What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read?
Patricia Cornwell, I tend to lean toward real crime or mystery. Patricia Cornwell writes pretty thrilling books. Love them!

What did you want to be when you were little?
Marine Biologist, I was assigned a presentation in 3rd grade on Porpiose and I fell in love.

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?
Cleaning! Cleaning kicks my butt everyday, it's a never ending chore. I'd probably also sneak in Laundry! It should be considered cleaning, because your cleaning dirty clothes lol.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
My ribeye steaks with roasted red potatoes and asparagus.

  • @wisco29 YES! I tried one of the Strawberry ones a while back and it was SO GOOD! I couldn't have one now because something that sweet would make me sick but man, those things better be around next year.
  • What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read? I LOVE getting lost in a good book. I have a few series I enjoy and a few authors that are my favorites. I tend to read from the Young adult section, I try to venture out. Just can't do it.

What did you want to be when you were little? I wanted to be an actress, then I wanted to be a singer (can't sing), then a teacher. I've done nothing with my life.

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work? Could I hire this person to go to work for me and give me the paychecks?

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Right at this moment, NOTHING. Food is the devil.
  • What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read?  Probably the Harry Potter books, love all of them!

What did you want to be when you were little?   A teacher

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?  Cleaning, for sure!

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?  Some kind of meat and potato, I guess.  You could cook it differently and add spices to make it taste different?

  • What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read?
    Gabriel Garcia Marquez

What did you want to be when you were little?
    Singer, actress, then lawyer.

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?
I think I'd rather hire someone to keep me organized. Paperwork, payments, bank crap, annoying time consuming clerical procedures of all sorts.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Fries. Well potatoes. Anyway done. (Like one PP said, assuming I wouldn't get obese or have a heart attack ). B-)

  • I have no idea on the first two questions, but I'd hire a cleaning person if I had the money. And I could eat nothing but pizza all the time. Actually having leftover pizza for dinner

@funkypineapple - Did you read the Wolves of Mercy Falls series by Maggie Stiefvater? It was a tad slow, but I kind of loved it. I'll have to check out The Raven Boys series.

  • What is your favorite book or who is your favorite author to read?

Oh, that's really tough.  I suppose I'd say my favorite author is Margaret Atwood, she's just such an interesting thinker and I love her prose style.  though I also adore Kurt Vonnegut, and Mark Bowden for non fiction.   And I don't know if I can choose a favorite book!  I guess my sentimental favorite would be Slaughterhouse 5 or Pride and Prejudice.  I've loved both since high school.  :)

What did you want to be when you were little?

A doctor.  Too bad I faint at the sight of blood, haha.  That dream died early in life for me!

If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?

Cleaning, all the way!  I love to cook and we don't have a yard, just a balcony, and I love tending to my balcony garden. :)

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Oh man, this is tough too!  I love all different types of food, but I guess I'll say sushi, because I could order a bunch of different kinds and I could sneakily include miso soup as well, which I adore.
