March 2016 Moms

Any soon to be Mom's in the 35+ range

Just want to touch base with some more "mature" moms out there!  I will be 35 at the birth of my first and sometimes it seems like we are treated like anomalies.   I realize risks go up the later in life we are but so far, I am enjoying the whole experience...as my experience being pregnant will be far different than someone 10 years younger.  Any positive words of advice or uplift would be awesome...if you've had a baby later in life I would love to hear about it!  Cheers!

Hi, I'm 37 and older moms are more common in my area/circle of friends. So far, no one has treated me differently. Several friends have had babies at 40 even. Other than the risks, so far nothing is different for me except that I have a preschooler (had my first at 33) and am more tired. Here's hoping that's all!

  • I am 35 and expecting my first child.  I go this week for Genetic Counseling and Testing.  Apparently since I'm "so old" I have to have all of these extra tests.  Other than severe morning/all day sickness, I'm doing ok.  I had to get a prescription to curb the sickness, which helped a lot! I am curious to know how other "older" moms are doing too.

37 here and we are a-okay. I had my first at 20. So im a bit rusty, but I hear it's like riding a bike....which I also haven't done in about 16 years. Dr said every thing looks picture perfect last appt. This pregnancy had been harder on my body though. Far more tired, nausea, restless leg syndrome, and an awesome dental infection that spread to my sinuses 4 weeks ago and is still alive and kicking ( we should have bought kleenex stock). Just about to hit 2nd trimester, hopeful all these symptoms level off soon :)

    Edit: yay autocorrect

  • I'm 34 and pregnant with my third. I think in some areas older first time moms are very common. I live in the suburbs so most people have kids around late 20s but when I would go into the city with my first I felt like a very young mom in comparison to most families and I was 28. I have to say this pregnancy has been a lot tougher on me than my first two and I wonder if that has to do with my age, but maybe not. Enjoy your pregnancy!
  • I'll be 35 in November, and I'm pregnant with my second. I've got some local mom friends my age, and some are younger, but I don't feel like an anomaly.
  • 40 here. So far all the testing has been the biggest change between this pregnancy and my daughter, and my first time with morning sickness a close second. I have a group of friends my age that all have older kids and a group my age with little ones so it's kind of all over the place around here.
  • I will be 38 at this delivery. Baby #5.
  • I'm 37...this will be my 2nd baby...due exactly 2 weeks before my dd will turn 13...definitely feeling more exhaustion than all those years ago but also feeling much healthier (now that the ms is winding down!) and better prepared for all the craziness ahead :)
  • Hi! I just turned 36 and this will be my first. Just getting out of the first trimester and have been very exhausted but I am also very pumped!
  • Hi! I'm 36 and it's gonna be our first too. So far, I'm having a great pregnancy. No MS, only shortness of breath and fatigue but I think that will get better at the second trimester.

  • Hey there,
Same here, same age and same symptoms. Also fingers crossed that this is our first full term pregnancy. I've been doing acupuncture throughout so I'm hoping that's what's been helping. I do get nauseous, but nothing severe.
Glad to know I'm not the only one, I was beginning to think something was wrong with me.

  • 37, pregnant with my second and third (twins)! I sort of like getting the special treatment with tests and all. Insurance pays for me to have these reassurances that everything is ok. Plus, I feel experienced and secure in my career and who I am in my thirties. I didn't feel that way in my twenties.
  • I'm 41, expecting my 3rd! Unexpected but excited!

I'm so stealing your officially a Timelord Siggy!!!!!   That is brilliant!

  • 36 & this is my 1st. Waiting for results for genetic testing. I know everything is OK but still anxious. I've definitely had more tests b/c I'm of my "mature age". Insurance has been a real pain in the... more so than I thought it ever could be. Other than that everything has been great! Just fatigue in the beginning.
  • I will be 35 in October and this is our 5th, my oldest is 18 and youngest is 7. I am beyond worried about the testing because of my age, well and I told my husband we've had 4 healthy babies and it just makes me more worried with every pregnancy like I am pushing our luck so to speak. I agree with pp that this pregnancy has been more exhausting, more morning sickness and overall yuckiness, it was easier when I was younger.
  • Currently 37 and on #3. My first is 16, #2 is 14 months. I will be knocking on 38 when this one is born.

Get a whole lot more tired then when I was younger. I understand more of what is going on and what could happen so that makes me a little more nervous then with the first... was 20 young and nieve lol.

Hate the title of advanced maturnal age, lol. We don't do any of the gentic testing. To many horror stories of false positive and I don't want the extra worries.

Good luck to all us "old" mommies!!
  • Will be 37 on Tuesday this is my second. DD will be 2 in October. I wasn't ready to have kids in my twenties I was much too selfish. The only downfall is I think it would have been a bit easier with the lack of sleep.

  • I'm 35 and pregnant with my first. I am healthy, and confident, and only having one blood test to check for neural tube defects... I don't feel the risk of the tests is worth it for me. Cheers to us all doing what makes us feel confident!
  • I just turned 37 and am expecting our third. Was 32 with the first and turned 35 while pregnant with #2. Have felt about the same with each pregnancy, but do resent the AMA status. Only feel that at the doc's office though. I didn't have any extra genetic testing done either. The one thing to remember is that moms are strong and always find a way to persevere, no matter the age. It's just what we do- it's instinct! Good luck to everyone!
  • Honestly, the term AMA has been the most offensive thing about this pregnancy. Haha

  • 35 and this is my first. No morning sickness but fatigue kicked my butt 1st tri. Now the headaches have kicked in. Other than that feeling Great! I am confident, and comfortable in my relationship, career, and life in general and am feeling really prepared for baby. I don't think I would've felt the same 10 years ago. I love where I'm at in life! Good luck to all of you!
  • I'm 36 and this is my 3rd, will be 13 weeks tomorrow. Had the panorama testing done and baby is low risk for all tests and a healthy baby boy.
  • I'm 36 and this will be our first child. Fortunately, it's been a pretty smooth process aside from the genetic testing, fatigue, and shortness of breathe. I feel totally awesome being an expectant mother at this stage and age in my life. Although I do find that many of my students (college undergrads) look in utter amazement when I share my news lol!
  • I just turned 35 in August and I feel like I am a freak show for being pregnant at my age. If I hear "because of your advanced Maternal age" one more time grrr. I never thought it was a big deal I know lots of moms who were in their late 30's early 40's when they had children.
  • I'm 38 and pregnant with my 3rd boy... My older sons will be 13 and 9 when baby is born. So yes, I have heard alot about my "advanced maternal age". lol. So far so good, no troubles just like 10 years ago as far as I can remember :) Maybe slightly more tired this time around, though could just be the timing.

    :)
  • I'll be 40 when the LO arrives and it will be my first. I had a WTH moment when one of my friends posted about becoming a grandparent - seriously? Guess I'm just a slow learner :)

  • 39 with my first. Luckily I have a few friends that have had babies in the last year so I'm definitely not alone in my circle of late bloomer friends.
  • I'll be 35 when I have my first. I definitely wasn't ready to be a parent 5-10 years ago! I'm hoping I am now lol! We decided against all the non-standard genetic testing since it wouldn't change anything for us. Other than feeling like crap (fatigue, nausea, food aversion) everything is going well!
  • I'll be 38 when the baby is born and this is my first. It was a complete unexpected surprise and we are both still getting used to it! Haven't had too many symptoms.. Just cramping and food aversions. But 12 weeks in and all is going textbook.
  • I'm 40 and this will be baby #8 for us! Super excited and a bit nervous all at the same time!♡
  • I'll be 35 when she is born... I have a 14 and 12 y/o.
  • I'm 37 will be 38 on Wednesday. This is my 4th child. Everytime I go to doctor plus the high risk doctor because of my age it's always brought up. I feel like screaming. As if I neede to be reminded.I don't feel much different then I did before when younger.
  • I'm 36 and I'm expecting our 9th baby and our oldest just turned 10! I really don't feel any different than when I was 26 and pregnant. I feel better actually and much more experienced.
  • Hi, I'm having my second baby in March :-) and yes around here I am most definitely an anomaly. Had my first baby at 34 and that was late to others as well. All my friends had their babies in their late teens/early twenties but I met my husband at 30 so we kinda just started later than others I guess. Now that I have my toddler I really can't imagine having a baby any earlier. Honestly, I enjoyed my twenties, got all the fun/partying out of my system and I feel much more mature and ready to be a mom now. Glad I waited but even my Ob is treating me all "high risk" for being 37. Having an "advanced maternal age" ultrasound next week, eek!! Say what? Yeah, I definitely don't feel "advanced maternal age" but I understand that my uterus and eggs are 37...so, here I go. Good luck to you and all the other mature mommies :-)
