Another here who will have their LO suddenly turn viciously to the side and stretch my nipple out with him. Yup, it hurts. I also try to burp when he does that a few times

This has nothing to do with needing to burp.. At least in my LO.. It's just another weird baby thing he went through (he hasn't done it for a few days now) babies are so weird

  • LO has had a temp of 99.5-99.9 since getting his shots on Thursday. Should I be worried? We've given him Tylenol when it get above 99.8 because he gets so miserable and fussy, but I don't know if it's enough to call the pedi about. Opinions?

He doesn't seem to be hurting and only gets really mad once or twice a day. He WILL NOT nap, though. It's like he wakes up within a minute feeling bad and just screaming.

I would probably call. I'm probably overly cautious though. Hopefully some of our nurses will weigh in.

Not at all.. It's not even an issue unless it's above 100.4
ETA- Its not recommended to give Tylenol unless above 100.4, and they should have told you that

They told us above 99.5 with extreme fussiness.
    :/

Thank you for the insight! My family immediately went to him having an ear infection and being sick and I just couldn't deal with that. Especially since I've been battling a cold for a week. No sick babies.

    Good to know!
  • Welp, LO is out of leap 3 so yesterday she was her normal happy perfect little self. Then today she's either sleeping, eating (someone got her appetite back! There is hope, @dancegurl1118!), or screaming. According to Dr. Google there is a 13 week / 3 month growth spurt. LO is 13 weeks today and 3 months tomorrow. I'd say we've hit it, and it is NOT fun - reminding me of my first days home alone with her, it's been that bad.

Thank God growth spurts only last a day or two. I loved her 2 hour long nap this after noon, but did not enjoy the 20 minute long crying jag when she woke up from it. #:-S

How awful I hope everyone feels better soon!
  • This isn't really a symptom, but I cannot get LO to nap during the day anymore. By the time I get him to sleep enough to put him down, he wakes up again. 20 minutes is all I can get out of him.

My DS started the same thing at 10 weeks. Before that the eat play nap routine was working great, but now he's not napping long enough for it to work or else he's be eating every hour and a half. The days are a lot longer and more frustrating sometimes, but now he's sleeping through the night giving us 10-12 hours a night. So, I really can't complain. I rather sleep at night.
  • @MrsMassimilla @bbnmama2012 We used to follow the eat play nap schedule, but this week LO switched it up on us and now it's play eat nap. She has been napping and sleeping for so much longer when she goes down on a full belly.

Oh man. This growth spurt is rough. LO was perfect this morning while we were out but ever since we've come home she's been miserable. Mama needs ice cream or something after the last few hours! Not sure what LO needs, probably sleep but she's not into that right now... I've been feeling much better about our current location lately, but times like this make me really wish we lived closer to family. I could use the help that I know my mom and sisters would be so happy to give.

ETA also, during a calm period I thought it would be ok for me to make a quick call to work to check the September schedule - NOPE! LO started screaming the second my boss picked up. I'm mortified.

  • My LO is super congested, I can't see any boogers in his nose, but it sounds like his throat is full of mucous. I feel so bad. And just don't know what else to do... We have a cool must humidifier going, I've done the nasal spray and aspirator... Anyone have any ideas?
  • @swiebe Our doctor always suggests elevating one end of the crib mattress so gravity can help the mucus go down the throat.
  • @ChardeeMacDennis I may have to try that next time LO wakes up, it took forever to get him down tonight, and now he keeps stirring every 30-45 min. I pick him up and he either burps or swallows and seem fine and konks right back out. I feel so bad, I can hear the thick stuff in his throat through the baby monitor.
  • @swiebe I hope it helped! Actually I hope your both still asleep so you never found out.
  • @swiebe Our doctor always suggests elevating one end of the crib mattress so gravity can help the mucus go down the throat.

I do this by putting a pillow under the mattress on one side... Makes it like his own sleep number :)

  • We did have a decent sleep the night he was clogged up, he woke up at 1, but slept till 7. So I can't complain. Yesterday his congestion was much better, but I ended up folding his comforter from his bedding set and putting that under one end of the mattress and he slept from 8-7. Amazing. He's still congested, but it's getting better.
  • Low grade fever, fussy, and desperately shoving hands into mouth to gag herself here. This is so sad! Gave her some Tylenol and keeping a close eye on this one tonight... :((
  • LO had his shots on the 2nd, and now ive noticed he seems to be getting red spots on his face. his baby acne had mostly cleared up so idk if its just acne or something to do with the vaccines.
  • ^^^ my LOs acne mostly cleared up, then seemed to come back a bit, too. He had his shots on the 31st. I don't know if the timing is coincidental, or not. I honestly can't remember if the acne was getting worse before the vaccines or not. Who knows. I don't want blame the vaccines for his acne - I just can't see how the two would correlate - so I'm just making a note of it mentally and will be more observant at his 4 month shots. Also, I read somewhere, I think in my Mayo Clinic baby book, that baby acne can be around up to 6 months or so, so I just chalked the new little ones up to that. It is less acne tho... Just a few little new ones

  • Oddly we had baby acne reappear too, at 14 weeks... Although I kinda think it's because she keeps spitting up and or drooling and we aren't getting it wiped off fast enough maybe...
  • So lo is 10 weeks old...we went to a cookout yesterday with dh's family. Last night we found out lo's 2 year old cousin who was there has hand mouth and foot disease :-< luckily she never touched lo directly....but her mom held him and I'm so worried he caught it. I'm going to call the pediatrician tomorrow (what with the holiday today) and see what I need to be looking out for...but wanted to see if maybe any stms had any experience with the disease? Any reassurance? Dr Google is not making me feel any better :(

Edited tried to delete comment my three year old left. You can't delete a comment??
  • @slynn768 Like you my little one was exposed to hand foot mouth disease. She was around her cousin before we knew he had it (he never got the bumps anywhere but that back of his throat), when I spoke with my doctor she said to be on the lookout for crying that cannot be stopped and a fever that does not go away. If it does not appear within a week consider your little one safe! But also be aware that the virus can live in an infected persons fecal matter for up to a month- so just make sure everyone is washing their hands after changing diapers! If there was no swap of bodily fluids yours probably did not catch it, hopefully she didn't kiss on your little one too much....My little one never got the virus (thank goodness!) But I was really stressed out for those few days checking her for symptoms- wishing you all the best!
  • @ShannonKiefer thanks for your reply! It's good to hear your lo never caught the virus despite being exposed! I hope we're lucky too...I just think about him sucking on his hands non-stop and if she kissed on his hands....ugh :-< my husband informed me after I posted that she knew her daughter had a fever and brought her anyways....AND held my 2 month old. Wtf?? If he does get it I'll be so upset....
  • LO plays with her ear while she eats, anyone else?? Don't know if it's because she is like what is this? Or if it's bothering her. I've noticed it for a few days now
  • @caitlincunn My guy will fold his ear over while eating. Too funny!

This would totally piss me off! We took LO to a family graduation party when she was around 8 weeks and another LO had HFM and was left at home with his grandma/grandpa who alternated between staying home with him and coming to the party. Neither of them touched LO and were so respectful about it. Thank goodness.

I sure hope your LO didn't catch anything.
  • @caitlincunn YES she grabs them all the time. I asked the pedi because I was nervous she had an infection but he said they looked fine. Sometimes she grabs both and it looks like she's making a terrified face. He said it's just her grabbing reflex and they're there to grab.
TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.

My guy puts his hands up by his ears, one hand or both hands. He might hold his ear, or fold it over then just keep his hand there, or just have his hands up there similar to the home alone kid's startled face. I was concerned about an ear infection too but its been a consistent thing for a while and there were no other ear infection signs so I had the ped check at his 2m appt and they are fine. I assume they do this because in the womb they had their arms bent at the elbow and hands near their face. So this position should be familiar and I would think comforting

  • Thanks! I might call the doctor tomorrow and she what she thinks. My 5 year old never had any ear infections until she was 4 I think and still then didn't have any pain Just a fever. I assume she would be screaming in pain if it was an infection but it's good to know other babies like their ears !
  • Can I have some advice ? I worked 2 night shifts and since I picked my babe up (who normally only cat naps and is very active all day ) he has slept in my arms all afternoon and now into the evening......... I'm trying to wake him up but no prevail.

Should I not panic ? I don't want him on a night shift schedule!!!!!! Ruining all my hard work.
  • @klkonwi your guy probably just missed you! Mine is going thru a phase right now where the best and only place to nap is with mom. He will not sleep in his swing or will reluctantly go down for his dad, but snuggles and my mom tricks will get him to sleep. And the other day he had a day where he slept a long time, and really hard, too. Sometimes he just has those and the next day is back to normal (whatever that means, lol). Try not to worry!

@HayesRN13 Maybe your LO is trying to trigger a letdown?

He def does it after because I can feel my letdown, He also does it with bottles which he's been taking breastmilk in bottles since day 1.. He will eat for a few minutes and then pull away like he's distracted, then start crying until he's eating again.. I don't know hopefully it's just a weird phase that will go away, today actually has been normal ... Fingers crossed... Babies are weird
I'll try to burp my LO if he does that. Sometimes that's what it is.

Edit: this was showing as a new post to me...sorry! Just read that it wasn't related to burping with you.

My LO has been doing some weird eating things too the past couple of days. Glad I'm not the only one. I've been checking his fontanel paranoid he's dehydrated...he's not. Sounds like it's normal listening to everyone else.

Aggh it's so hard. He missed you? Could be growth spurt? Could be like mine has his very first cold from in laws (rant in other thread) and his stretch of sleeping through night interrupted because he's miserable with congestion .. (Sorry got off topic )... My little guy even sleeping through the night sometimes would sleep all day ... I don't think your hard work is ruined, I find the better my guy sleeps during day, the better he does at night... Try not to worry and I hope he gives you a good night stretch!!

  • My daughter has had this ongoing issue since we left the hospital. We've had multiple doses of erythromycin ointment for her eye. (Which is no fun trying to apply). Some days it looks like it's gone away and the next it's back. Keep doing what you're doing and mention it to the doctor. They will likely give you ointment and tell you to keep milking the duct at each diaper change!
