The trimester boards are all peppered with amusing drive-by's. If you wanna throw in some snark, do it there!
Here's another UO stated as a question: Why do some people call it "daycare" and other people call it "school" for a 1 or 2 year old? I don't think it's l should be called "school" until it's preschool (age 3). Am I way off here?
We use them interchangeably, sometimes it's just easier to say school when talking with DS. (Though DS is 3.5 and we probably started calling it school along with daycare after the age of 2-2.5)
ETA: We only call it school with DS. I had to think about it to be sure, ha!

Agreed. My SIL does this. Your 11 month old does not go to school. She goes to daycare. You just pay extra to have them take professional pictures every year.
@emslade982 DS is going to a Montessori school for daycare when I go back to work in Sept. I call it school bc that's what the staff calls it and it's open on a typical school year schedule (breaks for thanksgiving, Christmas, spring break, some inservices and parent conference days, off for the summer). I am not disillusioned though and I understand that it's just me paying a staff to watch my child like any other daycare.
@Jules08 There's one happening in March right now. I lurk over there bc I'm due March 30th. It's all "science says blah blah blah" or "yes, but everybody's different and I'm special"
I saw that thread. Another example of people being fake nice so someone can be told what they want to hear. I guess hearing "you just need to fart" isn't acceptable these days.
They have a random thought thread which I like. We had a massive RTT thread on the April 2014 board and it was awesome. I want one for this board

I think telling someone they need to fart is legitimate advice that they need to hear!
Start an RTT thread. I wanna see what will unfold in there!

I call it school for my two year old. The reason is because her day is centered around leaning and is very structured. Even though she is two, her day is set up very much like a regular school or preschool. They focus on music, science, art, music and numbers. They have a recess or an "outside time". To me, the word daycare represents something similar an in home daycare where maybe they aren't as structured and don't have a learning activity during most of the day. (Note: some in home places may be considered "school" based on my above definition) This is just my personal observation.
UO: I don't like men who shave any part of their body below the neck. I don't even mind a bit of back hair. Not a sweater, but if my choices were a little back hair or no hair at all, back hair all the way!!!
I hate when ppl give their dogs ppl names. Example - my good friend recently got a dog and named her Ella. I feel like now it would be weird to name my future child Ella. I wasn't planning on using it as a name but I feel like it's automatically off the table for me bc I think of her dog now when I hear the name.
I should note that I don't have any pets so maybe that's why it irrationally annoys me. Haha
@AliSummer I actually don't mind that thread too much. I don't find it as annoying as the "pregnancy is a blessing and is so wonderful and never sucks and lets all be positive and give each other generic reassurance" threads
I don't mind it either, I just think the two threads are funny.
Coming over here from the TTC board, I really miss all the informative, fun, and honest discussions. Here, half the threads get buried by "my leg hair hurts" or "is anyone else nauseous?" I know it's partly my fault for not speaking up, but I also don't want to get yelled at by the folks trying to prove how nice they are by hurling insults at anyone they perceive to be negative. I'm already on edge without getting into Internet fights.
I really miss the TTC board, they were way fun over there. I feel like I have rubbed off a bit of that, but people get too butt hurt on this board.
I'm all for longer/paid maternity/paternity leave, but not the expense of even higher taxes - that can't keep being the solution.
Positions like this really frustrate me. You've identified that you have a desire for a said benefit, but have only identified what you are not willing to pay for it. At some point people in this country are going to have to decide whether this is a societal benefit desired at large, like public education, or whether this is something to be reserved to the private realm. If it's the former then society would have to pay for it, if it's the latter then private companies can pay for it (The caveat here would be that only those who work for companies who deem it worthy would be beneficiaries).
I realize this is just a random thread on a random Internet forum, so probably not worth getting excited over. But my UO is That I dislike unsubstantiated political commentary.
My UO is that it really bothers me when people use "gender" and "sex" interchangeably after being educated on the difference. My family is really backwoods and ignorant as to why this is so obnoxious, so I just picture random internet strangers with my mother's face...and then I leave the conversation.

Let's not forget those gender reveal parties! If you're throwing a party, get it right. Unless you can predict the future, I highly doubt you know your baby's gender.

It's not babysitting when it's your own child, it's called parenting.

I should have put a note saying not an UO but a continuation of the early conservation about the threads.
