Any Baby Purchases Yet?

Obviously it's super early, but it's so tempting to start buying things! We won't buy much until we know the sex, but yesterday we saw an Oscar the Grouch book called "Grouchy Hugs" with velcro grouch arms on it, and we couldn't resist. It was on sale, so it wasn't that bad of a splurge. It was funny, because my cousin's twins had a birthday part yesterday, and we bought them the Elmo version before seeing this one. We had just commented on how so many Sesame Street products are Elmo and there's so little else, and my DH loves Oscar the Grouch :))

Anyone else give in to temptation? Maybe even before you had a BFP?

Re: Any Baby Purchases Yet?

  • I bought a gender neutral onesie on clearance at Old Navy.  It was just so nice to finally go into the baby department under this type of circumstance instead of the usual buying gifts for my girlfriend's kids.  :)  I just couldn't resist.
  • Loading the player...
  • I bought a little onesie with foxes on it since both my husband and I are from the same town where foxes are the city symbol :D

Then I also bought Jimmy Fallon's book "Dada" for my husband :)

I haven't bought anything yet since we found out, but I went to a big 'household convention' with my friend in February and one of the halls was completely dedicated to everything baby. I bought these super cute cat - shaped booties there, and the thing in the link which for some reason I can only paste at the top of my post (no idea what they're called in English). They're both after a popular Dutch children's book character.

We're going to try not to buy anything before the end of the first trimester, but it really is super temping!
  • No since this is my second I am going to wait and find out the sex first because if it is a boy we will need stuff but if it's a girls we have lots of stuff.

  • @ejmo68 same...but, I am tempted to see how little I can buy this time around. Baby stuff is taking over our house and storage and I am determined to get it back....or under control. ;)

  • I just found out yesterday, so no!

  • I'm going to wait until the end of the first trimester. Had a miscarriage before at 10 weeks and it was hard since I had bought a bunch of stuff. I've been tempted though!
  • Nope. We still have loads of stuff from our boys and girl... We are pretty set, which is nice... I can't help looking at newborn stuff anyways at target. Curse you target and your adorable selection for the baybees.
Totes Agree. I don't want to purchase much this time around...but damn all infant stuff is ADORABLE. Reminder to myself: Stay out of target.

No we haven't yet, but I still have all our baby stuff from our last angel that ended in a miscarriage. I just couldn't find myself to letting go. Even though I'm so tempted to buy I wont until we know we are in the clear.
  • I bought fabric to make a quilted wall hanging. The panel I found was just so stinkin cute.

You will definitely have to share the end result with us when you're finished! (If you feel comfortable to, that is.)

  • DH was at a Ribfest last night, and when I got back home and called him, he told me there was a booth selling baby stuff and that he saw a little pyjama that said 'I only cry when ugly people hold me'...he wanted to buy it! So...first baby purchase was made by DH!
  • I had to keep my DH from buying a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hooded towel last night :))

  • I've been browsing etsy this morning. About 75 things in my cart hahaha now to remove them all and wait until I know boy/girl to buy something!!
  • We haven't bought anything but Mom and I were shopping in BuyBuy Baby for a few things for my nephew and we found nursery furniture that we both fell in love with.  Luckily, DH loved it too (at least from the pictures I texted him).

I am in the process of buying a little baby hockey jersey of our favorite team (NY Islanders) for our baby announcement picture.  Our close friend is a photographer so she wants to use us for her portfolio.  Why not!  Free pictures and it helps a friend out with her business! :)
  • Etsy has a great wishlist feature now, so no deleting necessary!

  • I want to but will wait a little bit. Our nursery is still set up for our son, who we didn't bring home. So, I'm a little hesitant as well. I'm sure I will be buying things left and right once we get further along.

  • I'm very impatient this time. I bought a gender neutral sleep with a hat and n the weekend

  • I bought three maxi dresses right away for weekly bump photos. They'll stretch as I grow and are on sale right now with fall coming. I have a few maternity clothing items I bought on super clearance with my 1st pregnancy (MC). What's on clearance now will fit in the 3rd trimester. Big savings! Of course there's the vitamins and more vitamins to be as healthy as I can.

  • Just a book!  We are going to buy a book every week I flip over to the new week. That way we start a nice book collection of childrens book by the time he/she is here.

Otherwise, no. We'll be waiting a bit to buy things. Eager to do so, but not comfortable quite yet.
What a wonderful idea! I love it!

  • Kidlets! Love that. Stealing it.
  • I bought a new (to me) ring sling..... Don't tell my husband. Ssshhhhhhhh!
  • I bought a onesie to tell dh that we were expecting again, and today I bought two wraps on the fsot over at the baby wearer. Wraps and a carseat (and a car that will fit another carseat, holy gosh) are really all we have to buy. After five kids, we have a ton of baby stuff in storage, but my younger two are still on their car seats, and I lost my wraps in a house fire in January. I found such a great deal on the boards that I couldn't resist, and now I'm wondering if an eight month break is too long, or if my toddler will let me start wearing him again!
  • Totally bought a onesie from target that says "greatest baby brother". as you can see, I'm hoping for a boy!
Did similar to this for my first pregnancy with my son now 14 months!
I totally feel like I'm having a girl though! Bring on the tutus! ;)
  • So excited for baby that we bought a Wusic Womb Music Prenatal listening device to hear baby's heartbeat. It just came in today's mail and we are so anxious to try it out! I'm well aware that at 4 weeks and 4 days pregnant (due May 6th!!!) we aren't likely to hear anything.
Probably have to wait a few more weeks to put it to use, but either way - we are ready to hear our little one!

Hoping for a girl :) - first time mom.
  • Yes, couldn't help myself! I got a few gender neutral onesies and a maxi dress for me on sale.
  • I'm forcing myself to wait until the end of October but that hasn't stopped me from wish-listing a lot of stuff to buy right away! It all started with the cutest pooh bear diaper bag!
  • I've been hoarding cloth diapers for awhile. But that's it. We have everything left over from #1 and will find out the sex this time to see if we need to clean house and get new clothes or just keep what we've got :-)

Nothing yet, but I'm going to get a new bra today... I'm dying the last two days with my breasts hurting so badly!!! (ETA: 160 dollars later at the maternity store and I shouldn't have to get any clothes other than tops for a while)

I make custom onesies and I'm dying having not made any yet!!!
  • I just bought a few maternity things from Gap with their 40% off sale. This is my second and I feel like I'm going to need them earlier this time around. Unfortunately, I let someone borrow all my mat. clothes and she's not due until December....and they are in Oregon. Boo.

  • I bought a bib to use to announce to DH. I left it at work thinking I won't need it this weekend.. Weeellllll, let's just say I did! So DH knows now so I guess I'll just give it to him tomorrow.

I love the idea of buying books. I think I'll start this next time we go shopping.

If we find out we are having a girl, this is going to be the first purchase.

The ONE thing I must buy is that cheesy maternity shirt that says "I swallowed a seed" with a slice of watermelon on it.
It's so. cheesy. but it makes me laugh so. much.

  • I got told off by my best friend for suggesting I might buy some baby mouse ears at Disney World. She says it's too early and she'll send them to me when it's time. I know she means well, but I do kind of want the experience of buying it, even if that is totally silly. She is looking forward to spoiling my kids rotten one day.

Psshh, some people buy things before they're even pregnant. I agree that it would me more meaningful to get it on a trip that you took to Disney World, and later on when you take your kid to Disney World, you'll have a neat story to tell them, You could even show them the shop where y'all bought it. That's pretty special.

In other words, I would tell your friend off right back ;)
