Huggies Wipes! Be careful!

edited August 2015 in September 2015 Moms
I came across this video just now and it definetly scares me. I was giving a couple packages of Huggies wipes at my shower and I've been using them as makeup remover wipes cause I'm lazy. I thought they felt super rough and they actually scratched my face and made it irritated for the next day. I just assumed it's because I have sensitive skin. But after watching this video I checked all my packages and they all have traces of fiberglass like material on one side of them! The wipes I used to wash my face actually had a decent size chunk of it just sitting on the wipe and I rubbed it on my arm and now it's really irritated. Check your wipes ladies to be safe!

Re: Huggies Wipes! Be careful!

  • Yes I just saw this earlier!! I told my sister because she uses them and she started freaking out trying to check all her wipes! Really hoping I didn't get any bad packages
  • Loading the player...
  • Oh my goodness, I hope your face and arm are ok. Thanks for notice!
  • When I shared this on my Facebook, one of my friends said her toddler has been complaining that her butt hurts and now she feels so bad but she knows why! I searched it and walamrts started taking them off he shelves. Very scary to think my little guys precious butt could've been hurt
  • oh wow, thanks for the warning!
  • You're welcome! Don't want any precious little bums to be irritated. I've boycotted Huggies diapers due to most of my preschool being allergic, but now I'm definitely not using the wipes either
  • Thank you for the PSA. That poor baby. Ugh I couldn't imagine how your friend must feel. I'm glad she knows what it is now. I'm going to stick with my Publix wipes (which I use as make up remover too!)
  • @rholbrook7 Omg! That's even worse! I think I only have 1 pack of pampers and the rest of Luvs, so I'll definitely be examining each one. I hate that nothing can trusted, so scary
  • This is the specific one that scratched my face
  • I have atleast 50 packs of huggies wipes, so disappointed because i will not use these! Wonder if i can exchange them somewhere? Yikes
  • In addition some brands of wipes have formaldehyde in them. I used a huggies natural on my daughter when she was a couple months old and it caused the worst diaper rash she has ever had! I started looking at the ingredients and they had formaldehyde I them.
  • Oh my gosh! Thanks for sharing, i have been so anal on what i am using on my girl. I have been shocked with the amount of chemicals in baby products. Check your baby wash too...Johnson and johnson has chemicals that are not good for our babies either. I am using available baby. I also am making my own baby wipes but have some seventh generation for backup. I watched the human experiment on Netflix, really scary and interesting.
  • Thanks for posting! I had already switched my Amazon Mom subscription from huggies diapers to pampers after the chemical burn videos (and it even ended up being cheaper!). Now I've switched the wipes too.
What is sad is my son has been sticking his hand down his diaper a lot lately and I just thought it was a new phase, but now I'm wondering if he is itchy! =( Time to check the wipes. (I have been using their natural care wipes since he was born and never had a problem before.)

  • Am I the only one that doesn't quite buy into the hysteria? Waiting until some testing comes out before throwing away a huge box b/c of scent crystals that have always been there or something...

Huggies has actually pulled some of the wipes, and is looking into it. Even if they are just "scent crystals" they shouldn't be causing pain or scratching people.
  • I have used the huggies naturals since DD was born without issue. I definitely am paying attention closely to both the wipes I'm still using (Maybe one or two a day) and the reports that I'm sure will be coming out but I'm also not throwing away the huge stockpile I have without knowing for sure something is wrong. If something ends up being wrong or they get recalled I want to have my stockpile to return to the store in the very least!

  • On top of that, something in them aggravated my son's eczema.

Of course they have - that's standard crisis communications, not an admission of guilt. Any wipe is going to irritate if you rub hard untentionslly to see if it causes damage. I'm just saying I've been using for 2.5 years with no problems, and so far the only 'proof' is stories on the Internet. ETA: I just used mine purchased from Costco and didnt see anything
  • I personally have a friend who found a shard of something sharp in her wipes last night as well. She said she never would have noticed it until it scratched her finger. I'll definitely be checking mine before using them on baby.

I just talked to someone on fb about this. Yes there are sparkles in mine and tiny hard spots, not glass. When researching, huggies wipes are made with some kind of sodium that crystallizes. I've always used them for myself and my children and haven't had any problems.
  • I always press the wipe between my hands to take the cold away for a second. This has unintentionally put me in a position to feel if there is anything sharp. I used Huggies pure natural once and my daughter got an awful rash. Still sticking with Publix as I've not had any problems and the Internet hasn't told me about any either. Lol
  • Everyone's skin is different!! I have very high maintenance skin on my face! Using anything with fregrence will make me break out/dry out. I use special soap and face lotion that doesn't lather or smell good, and basically has nothing in it...but it works wonders on me! Yet my DH can use Neutrogena anything and be find. If I use it even once my face is messed up for two weeks! I'm hoping our sons skin is like his dad's!
I was very allergic to Luvs and Huggies as an infant. My mom actually cloth diapered me for this reason!! She said by the time I was home from the hospital she was in tears at my reaction to the diapers. I have a stock pile of Honest Co diapers and wipes, and a stock pile of Sensitive Pampers and Sensitive Pampers wipes ready to go! I'm just hoping they work! I won't use Huggies or Luvs because of the reaction I had...my sisters kids were also allergic to those two brands. It's just a personal choice, like everything else in parenting, do what works for you! You don't feel comfortable using a product....by all means don't use it!!!
  • I have atleast 50 packs of huggies wipes, so disappointed because i will not use these! Wonder if i can exchange them somewhere? Yikes

You can! If they're unopened you can exchange for store credit to any store that sells them. I did that because someone gave me 23 packages of Huggies diapers and ended up getting $230 for them when the person who bought them used coupons and only spend $40 them
  • I'm sure there are cases where you get something that scratches you. I had checked mine after watching this and found the "glass" but I can't say it was in fact glass, it was hard but, I got no cuts from pulling it off or rubbing it in my skin. Of course I will be extra cautious using these wipes but I'm not going to take them back over something that really could be nothing.
  • If you haven't had any issues then that's great, all I was suggesting is check your wipes to be safe. Fragrance free wipes shouldn't have scent crystals in them either way. No matter what the hard sharp stuff is, it was only a warning to look and make sure you don't scratch your babies. Sorry for saying anything, clearly should have mentioned nothing.

@thinkpink101 and that's exactly all I was doing, nobody said to boycott anything, but people get so defensive. It was probably just a bad batch of wipes that was made. It seems to be specifically be just the Disney ones
  • @Rhill30 would it kill you to stop making any remarks whatsoever towards me? I haven't replied to anything you've said to me in months because you've had an issue with anything that comes out of my mouth since day 1. We don't have similar views on basically anything, but I have never once reached out to you. Yet you come at me every. Single. Time. Go back to high school and bother somebody else

So you're saying that even though you thought I had you blocked and couldn't read it, you still needed to? Grow up

Honestly it's because I thought you had me blocked! Haha!

Either way, I'll make comments to anyone regardless of who. If I have an opinion. I'll make it. Believe me, you're not special that I'm choosing to "target you" (because you know. That's what I thrive on all day)

I'm supposedly blocked too. Kept me up all night, I'll tell you.
  • I had no idea you could block someone on here. LOL I don't mind different opinions because it has opened my mind/eyes several times on different subjects. This world would be one hell of a boring place if we all agreed on every issue. I'm all for a good debate but name calling seems a little much.

Name calling? Do you mean "whiner"? Unless I missed something I don't see name calling. And OP has a history of severe butthurt when challenged about her opinion or choice of words, just FYI.
  • @chelseajeanene what store did you take them to if you don't mind me asking?
