  • I'm just loving that we can't have our beliefs but the "because science" people can. News flash- science is PEOPLE telling other people what they believe to be true and last time I checked, people can actually be wrong! Science has been disproven many times before. To each their own.

  • I have never had a transvaginal ultrasound after 8 weeks. Yet have seen the baby just as clear, actually clearer than with the vaginal one. Imagine that.

Some OB's will sometimes do a transvaginal ultrasound after 8 weeks to check the length of the cervix.  But a transvaginal u/s but is usually done before 8 weeks because baby is still too small to be seen through the stomach.

This!!! I was wondering the exact same thing! But then again, if they're as into science as they claim to be then we came from monkeys and how the hell could we feel our babies if that's true?!!! Lmao! :))

This. I'm glad my BMB actually has some logical people on it who understand how pregnancy actually works and don't go around claiming special snowflake syndrome... And just so you all know, in nursing school during my OB rotation I had to spend a week in an OB's office working closely with widwives and OB's and they told us we're required to tell mom's that we don't know what they are or aren't feeling and that if they think they're feeling baby they probably are even IF we know it's not possible that you're feeling baby. So no, your doctor telling you that you can feel the baby at 9 weeks does not mean a thing to me, and they probably laughed about you right after you left the office. JS.

This is your uterine height by gestational week of pregnancy. Remember your intestines go all the way down so gas can be felt anywhere around your uterus. There is no way to know whether you are feeling baby or gas until you are much farther along unless you physically see your baby moving on an ultrasound and feel corresponding movements...and even then it can be a total coincidence.

    *Typos
I was going to post the same diagram. :) I still had to get a transvaginal unltrasound at 9weeks 4days. They can't even "see" the baby from the outside. So feeling any sort of movement is very very doubtful. However I feel like I'm jumping into this game late so....

I had a regular old ultrasound at 7 weeks 6 days and saw the baby clearly even the flickering heart beat. If we're going to use facts. "Just saying"

HEY ME TOO!!  In fact the midwife couldn't find baby transvaginally and had to do abdominally at 7w6d.  Very clear with the latter.

Well I definitely believe in evolution, but I don't agree with cherry picking when you're going to vocally be hardcore "science" and when you're going to believe in other less scientifically proven things.

I too have been feeling movement and I'm 11.3 weeks. Been feeling it for a few days. This is my third baby. I don't agree with previous posters about it being gas. Gas typically isn't felt in your uterus/pelvic region. :)

Actually gas can be felt down there, after I had a d&c from a missed miscarriage I had horrible cramps And thought something happened during the procedure. Went right to the E.R and they did an exam and it was just gas and constipation. It was low where my uterus is so gas sidnt cross my min.My baby moves like crazy at the ultrasounds I have had (almost 12 weeks now) and have tried my hardest to feel movement and there's nothing. You probably just need to poop
Well I didn't just have a d&c, nor am I experiencing a m/c. Also I never mentioned anything about having severe cramping or constipation. I'm sorry you had a m/c- I've experienced one myself, and having gone through one makes me no expert in comparing my miscarriage to someone else saying they feel movement, it's not even related. And by the way-I was potty trained at 2, so I'm well aware of when I need to take a shit. :)

  • OH NO!! the grammar police have shown up folks looks like we are scraping the bottom of the barrel now. Cause nit picking someones spelling on social media makes a scientific point... ROFLMAO

I am amazed by my patients all the time and as a medical professional I have learned to never discredit anything a person has to say about their body now there are people who are misinformed like a patient of mine calling her trapizious muscle her deltoid. but do I scream and yell at them that they are wrong "because Science"? hell no i politely correct them and say oh well that is actually your trapizious muscle. muscle names and their general attachmets however a clear cut facts about the body when it comes to what one is feeling that is subjective evidence that can neither be proven or dis proven by science.

Are we really supposed to take you seriously as a "medical professional" when you're arguing a point but can't even spell trapezius properly or use proper grammar? The hospital I work at wouldn't take you seriously if you can't spell the part of the body you're supposed to be working on correctly. As a "medical professional" anatomy is one of the basics you should have to a T, and spelling is extremely important when it comes to anatomy because one part of the body can literally be one letter off from a completely different one.

Isn't there someone on your own BMB who you need to patrol for this kind of thing? Quickly, go! Someone might be misspelling something at this very instant!

Edited for spelling, oh the irony!

  • Well gas is painful and you will take it out after feeling it so I don't think it's gas and after 10 w baby changes its position upper then the pulvic bone so I guess it's baby you won't feel anything lower anymore after that week at almost 3 months you can feel it, these what I know and just wanted to share..
  • Pelvic not pulvic :)

Sure if someone already said this but…
"Science" does not say "we came from monkeys", rather that humans and monkeys have a common ancestor. Sigh. Science education fail
Sigh. Actually science teaches evolution and that teaches the whole ape theory. However, the point in what I was saying is that basically everyone has their own belief system. Mine is that God created us. Furthermore, the thread was about when YOU can feel YOUR baby and I truly believe one woman cannot attempt to discredit another simply because of what she believes or has/hasn't experienced. To each their own.

As someone who teaches evolution... No, I don't teach my students that we came from apes. We share a common ancestor.
That's about 6 one way and half a dozen the other. Anyways, like I said, to each their own.

  • Also, if you do climax after the initial cramping if u meditate on the vibration throughout ur body --- much like sonar, u can definitely feel the heartbeat in uterus! Won't work for everyone. But worth trying ;)) hahaha
  • I have not felt anything that I can clearly distinguish as movement, and believe it's too early for me to feel anything (10w5d). There is so much going on down there - things moving around, muscles stretching, that yes I've felt odd/new things, but based on the information from my doctor and reading scientifically backed sources I personally believe that it's not movement, it's just my body adjusting. I'm looking forward to truly feeling movement in a clear way, so I can have that moment of knowing I'm feeling the first movement and not second-guessing if it's something else. But that's me, my personal perspective on it based on my experience so far.

I think those pointing to science are trying to present the realistic/logical side of things to prevent misinformation from being spread, which I appreciate. When I first saw this thread, my gut reaction was "oh no, I haven't felt any of that, is there something wrong with me? Wrong with the baby? Am I behind?" Etc. And seeing the information about "well, studies/science have shown X is what is normal" is both reassuring and helps me understand my body and this process a little bit more. Perhaps the tone didn't always come across the best way in the heat of the moment, but oh well, it doesn't bother me (and we're all hormonal and maybe more defensive than usual :) )

Bottom line, everyone has their own personal journey and experience and can share that experience how they wish. But at the same time, I think it's important to be aware of and measure experiences with what the "rule of thumb" (backed my science and medicine) is on things to better understand and evaluate what's going on with your body, and so that we're not spreading information that may be inaccurate (ie, making it seem like someone's unique experience is the norm, not saying that's what happened here, just generalizing) and misleading to those just lurking on the boards.

    Just my two cents...
  • If science is based on limited data I wonder what those 40+ extra pages in appendix were for my thesis that took me years of work to collect-

Based on the abuse my 32w pregnant friend is getting from her ninja I am happy to wait... I already pee every 2 hours I don't need anyone practicing kickboxing on my bladder thank you

I'm sure you have noticed that the world is populated by millions. Science can't test every single human on earth, Love. Be realistic. Science does the best it can with the subjects it can get to run tests/study. Yes. 40+ pages is a lot but it is only a fraction of data compared to the billions of humans experiencing life on earth.. We can only speak from a general perspective not individual. Does that make sense?
