Re: can we have a vent about dumb things people say to us?

  • I told a friend I was preggo early on (8ish weeks), and a minute after saying congrats, goes on this whole talk about how messed up my lady parts will be after birth. This friend doesn't have any kids, so...just trying t traumatize me?

  • My MIL called my doctor twice to ask questions about our lab results and make sure we're doing what she thinks we should. I'm pissed and can't believe my doctor would talk to her without my written consent. This is a HIPAA violation. My MIL also insisted I reach down during labor and pull out my own baby like she apparently did. That's cool if that's your thing, but I WILL NOT be pulling my child out of my vagina during birth! That's why I have an OB and will be going to the hospital.

SIL reacted to the news of us having a girl by saying "I hate little girls, she better not give me sass!" Seriously?!!? Who says that?!
  • I was told I am "huge" at 19 weeks by a co- worker who is post menopausal and looks like she is pregnant with a litter
  • When my FIL found out we were expecting his response was, isn't it kinda early in your marriage to have a baby? Then he said you know they have birth control and condoms for a reason. I was beyond shocked.
  • The one thing I have heard from EVERYONE is, "Oh, so lucky that it won't be hot out when you are about to pop!" Drives me bonkers.

That and a coworker told me, "Oh you won't be able to fit into tops like THAT for much longer!" (as in, non-maternity top). Wanted to scream.
  • When I told my boss that I was pregnant and when my due date was, he responded that he hopes I don't go into labor in the middle of a blizzard. Thanks for that comforting thought
  • I'm getting so sick of people I work with commenting on my belly. Half say something like "you're way too small to be that far along!" And the other half comment on how obvious my bump is! I also don't know why every single person on the planet feels the need to ask whether or not we'll find out the sex at the anatomy scan. Is it really any of your business? ? And some people get SO annoyed when they ask when I'm due and I say January. Yes, I have a due date, but how many babies arrive ON their due date and, again, is it any of your damn business?

  • I am 33yrs old and found out at 2 1/2months I was pregnant. The father and I were no longer dating at the time & I had been on birth control so a complete but very awesome surprise. I was told by one of my clients the other day that I will now have a purpose in life. I had no idea how to take or respond to that one .....I guess they think there's no purpose if you're not married and don't have kids haha
  • My MIL decided to tell everyone that I'm pregnant after I had told her id like to wait until my next ultrasound and surprise everyone, I then saw it all over FB! How upsetting and frustrating!! So my husband and I've decided not to real the baby's gender until it's born! She then tells me to hurry up on having a second baby right after because my eggs are rotting!!
  • I'm having twins...the question "are they natural" is my biggest pet peeve. I feel like asking them "how is your uterus working? Any issues with your last pap smear?" It's so personal and rude!

Yesterday I got 2 stunning comments "what size clothes are you wearing now?" and when I answered they replied "surely you're bigger than that?!"
And the second "were they an accident?" - I actually couldn't answer this, I just stood there stunned!

"I'm a nurse, trust me you aren't showing yet." Umm... In the daily battle with my pants, I lose every time. Trust me, I am.
  • My thing was today a coworker who is 2 months further along asked about my baby names. When I told her them she cleared her throat in disapproval. I said what you don't like them? "If I were you since it's your first child if it was a boy id name him after his daddy. Why wouldn't you do that?" The names Olivia and Michael aren't good enough for you then keep your mouth shut. Excuse me for using traditional names.
  • I'm really angry at people who can't tell or don't care that I'm pregnant and they expect me to lift and carry things like I'm a body builder. I also ride the bus because my car isn't working and trying to get a seat is impossible. Please, stop treating me like a man!!!

It's getting to the point where I just want to scream, "I'M PREGNANT!" at the next person who treats me with any type of disrespect. No I don't need a red carpet rolled out in front of me, but good grief people are rude!

As far as family goes I'm regretting ever telling my mom the name I've picked out for a boy because she goes blabbing everything to anyone who will listen. I feel like she's cheapening the experience of her first grandchild from me.

  • Just got into an argument with my mother about how grey and white are gender neutral and not "boy colors". Like seriously? Edit to add: my MIL bought some clothes and they're all grey, white and cream obviously because we don't know the sex yet but she was just dying to buy something. So my mom is saying that my baby will look like a boy because the colors grey and white are boy colors...
I told my mom that I find out the gender today and she says, 'well that's your prerogative.' Apparently because she went through five pregnancies without finding out the gender prior to birth i just need to buy everything yellow and wait until January to see what I'm having. Ugh!!!

I also see grey and white as gender neutral. I have a couple of thermals for the baby that are grey and he or she will wear them.

  • My mother came over and asked me if I got hit in the face because the circles under my eyes were so dark. We got ready to go out for coffee and she insisted I put on makeup. Gee, thanks Ma! Really, I'm just exhausted.

Had a customer at work who I barely know, don't even know her name, ask me today 'how's MY baby doing?'. I asked her to repeat herself, bc I thought I must of misheard, and she said it again. No, woman I hardley know, this child is not yours, but thanks for the heads up that you plan on kidnapping it ?! It was just so bizarre, I'm not even annoyed, just weirded out.
  • I usually don't post on here but the annoying comments keep rolling in! Today a co-worker asked me in the bathroom and I quote "how much weight have you gained" blank stare, I said excuse me and she repeated herself and went into some lecture on how doctors don't want you to gain more than 20 pounds or something---mind you she has no kids. I just said well my doctor hasn't said anything to me yet but if he does I'll guess I'll know. Smh how rude! Not to mention I just barely popped, and I'm way smaller than her pregnant! Sigh.
  • I was at a brewpub last night with friends, clearly holding a glass of water in line to order food, when some idiot walked up and said "you really should lay off the beer." I said, "it's water," and he said, "no, I mean your beer belly. it looks like you're putting on a beer belly with all that beer."
he was trying to be funny. i thought i might punch him.
  • You should have.
  • I've had it pretty easy but my husband got a rough one.

My FIL is kind of a chauvinist, whereas my husband is super feminist. My baby that we lost in February was a girl; I'm now pregnant with a boy. When my husband called his dad and told him the news, FIL was like "oh excellent, now you get to be a REAL father!"

My husband immediately hung up on him.
