I can't freaking co sleep. My mom has been sleeping with the baby and she has been sleeping for longer periods of time which is great cause right now I really need some rest. My mom will bring her to me when the baby wakes up hungry and then takes her back. LO slept with my mom most of tonight but now I have her and LO is squirmy and not really sleeping. How the hell do you co sleep???

ETA: she's asleep. I'm afraid to breathe.

I personally only really successfully cosleep after nursing LO in the side lying position. Your mom is wonderful!!

Yeah. I only do it (accidentally) when we side lying feed. When I try to put her in bed with dad (he's partially awake) in the morning when I get ready, she's squirmy.
  • Fed at 1:50...screamed head off if I tried to put him down...3:15 put him down, pumped, opened my mail, made fresh formula...4:20 fed again...5:15 and he is still in my arms. He is so stuffy and even saline drops w/nose aspirator didn't help.

My version of co-sleep (which I only really do after a 6 or 7am feeding so I can 'sleep in' until 9am or so) is to wrap him in his swaddle blanket or sleep sack (whatever is appropriate for the temp in the room) and lie down with him positioned on his back so his head is on my shoulder, his chest and shoulders leaning into my armpit, his body between my ribs and arm, my hand curled around his feet. He ends up being semi-reclined and I can still crane my neck up and check his eyelashes to see if he is awake or asleep. I can bend my knees and put my feet down and push off of them a little in a rhythm for a kind of toe to head rock or I can nudge from the side with my arm (not very comfortable at all, luckily he prefers the toe to head rock) to soothe him to sleep. I end up kind of worming on the bed with the toe to head rock, which I'm sure looks ridiculous, but hey, it works.

We have done a full night this way, but I don't prefer it. I'm a side sleeper and I have to lay on my back to do this. Also, I just don't sleep as well, period, with him on the bed.

I can't comfortably sleep in the side lying nursing position. My downward arm is always at this awkward angle to accommodate for LO in front of me. We can nurse fine, and he sleeps fine that way, but I can't sleep long that way.

  • @mvargas12 when I co sleep, which used to be all the time and now only a couple of days a week in the morning, I make sure my back has a pillow wedged behind it so I feel supported and can rest my arm on it. It puts me in a position where I'm in between back and side sleep position. My bottom arm slides under the pillow for my head. I can adjust LO with my upper arm as needed. So if she drifts off to sleep after eating I can roll her on her back.
  • Been up since 4:30. Have had two bad nights back to back where we've taken a step back on night progress. Shots today so don't see tonight any better.
  • Seriously, this is getting old. I started back at work a week ago. One of my twins will not sleep at night now. The second you put her down, she starts screaming. Tonight we actually got her down. She managed to stay asleep for 90 minutes. But now we have a baby who's just screaming. She's been up for almost 3 hours with no end in sight. She's already ate, so she's not hungry. She's inconsolable. I don't know how much longer I can take this. We're so sleep deprived it's not even funny. She even woke the other twin up now. So now we have 2 to contend with.
