Perhaps my husband and I are odd ones out, but we love these types of names. In fact both of the names we love for a girl are gender neutral (in our book). We don't equate a persons masculinity/femininity to their name. I wish people could just take a name at face value. If the parents love it (and its not totally weird, *ahem* Apple anyone?) why does it matter?
I'm pretty sure it was mentioned already, but statistically once a name "goes to the girls "it drops off almost complete usage for boys and becomes a "feminine " name, which kinda defeats the whole "gender neutral " thing people claim they are going for. Can you honestly say you don't assume Ashley, Madison, Quinn and Aubrey are girls if someone is talking about them?
A lot of people on this trend claim that they like "strong " names for girls, which is the really messed up part. We have a culture that devalues feminity so much people have to give their daughters masculine names to be "strong". That isn't right.
And seriously, if you don't see "feminine or masculine names " why not name your son Margaret?
I have never met a girl named Ryan or Elliot etc. I've met a girl named Taylor but I think that's it. I know my dad had a male friend named Courtney (my name) in the navy and that caught me by surprise.
I LOVE the name Ryan for a boy. It's always been my top boy name. Lately I've been second guessing naming a boy Ryan though because of all the girl names. It's still on my list but it's hard not to take that into consideration. My dads middle name is Arden and that's also been on my boy list but now Arden is going to the girls.
Are you kidding me? You need to do some research on the name before making comments about it. The name Ryan is a girl's name of Irish origin meaning "little king". If Irish names have a special place in your heart then your rant naming girls this name is completely irrelevant not to mention ignorant. I have a daughter who we have the name Riane (pronounced Ryan) and we are an Irish family. I think people should name thier kids whatever they want to.

Holy cow! Talk about a 6 year old ZOMBIE POST!
Ryan in itself is Irish and means "little king," you stated it yourself and so little king is BOY. If it were "little queen" then girl. King = masculine. Women are not named Kings.

This is very interesting, I’ve never thought of this! I’m not exactly sure how I feel about it especially with people making up weird names all the time. At least these people picked a real name 🤷♀️
Fun fact I have cousins Ryan(male) and Rynne(female) both pronounced as Ryan! And yes on the same side of the family lol
