Sleepless in _____?

Sleepless in Los Angeles here.....

Boobs are hurting, can't sleep on my stomach OR back, but now my hips are aching so side sleeping is practically out the door. Have my body pillow but it's not helping much. Going to get a pregnancy pillow today. Feel so bad my fiancé keeps sleeping in the spare room because between aches, pains, and peeing. Oh and did I mention my room needs to be at like 68 degrees or I feel like I'm suffocating? I'm a co-sleeping nightmare!

Anyone else struggling at this point? I know it's just going to get more tough later along and obvioualy also with baby but I'm hoping for some tips or tricks. I may go to the chiro to see if he can help with my hips but wondering what else has helped?

Didn't post this in the symptoms thread because I figure down the road it'd be a good searchable. Also, I did some recon yesterday and commented on some threads from diff BMB and haven't gotten responses. Let's see what the Jan mamas are dealing with......

  • For side sleeping you need a softer and more comfortable mattress so your hips can sink in and your spine is straight. Get a good memory foam topper.

We have a memory foam Tempurpedic mattress. I wonder if a pillow top would help? I'll check it out. Thanks :)
  • I am 18 weeks today and can't believe I'm already having trouble sleeping. I get up to pee all the time and then I can't get back to sleep. I didn't think the sleepless nights would start until the end of the pregnancy.
  • Definitely a mattress topper/ softer bed. I've resorted to sleeping in the guest bedroom because it's softer, cooler and I get the bonus of getting to spread out and surround myself with pillows
  • Los Angeles as well. My sciatica flares as soon as it's time to sleep.
  • Everything you said is me every night!! 18+4

@bdamico123 I'm 18+3 today. Ugh!!!! My older sister had the same issue around now til the end. Fingers crossed I (we) find the hidden answer!

I'm thinking a pillow top for our Tempurpedic mattress. What's crazy is I actually used to think our mattress was too soft and I wanted something more firm! Yikes.
  • Strangely enough, my husband flipped our pillow top mattress over so the hard side is facing up (I threw a fit about it until I slept on it). I had the hardest time falling asleep and staying asleep, waking up sore, etc. I think it's because I switch positions a bunch throughout the night and it was like rearranging my muscles every time I moved. My husband has had neck issues for years and they've improved a ton. Now I sleep so soundly and wake up without being sore.

Probably not the advice you were expecting maybe softer isn't the way to go (that's what she said)

Lol I hope that was an Office reference. And hey, who knows maybe firmer does work? That's what she said.
  • I have memory foam too and I still have a "nest" topper from cuddledown. I also use a full 6ft down body pillow. I need all the fluff.
  • @willashbaby maybe I can also wrap myself up in a down sleeping bag, haha. Just covered in feathers.
  • I was a stomach sleeper. Now that I'm on my side my husband bought me a side sleeping pillow from Brrookstone. It helps with the pains I was having. Hope that helps.

  • That was DEFINITELY an Office reference lol. But honestly, try a couple nights on a firmer mattress and see if it helps at all. On our soft couches I need a whole pillow configuration to get comfy, but just need 2 pillows in a little triangular shape supporting my neck and head on the bed. The hard mattress seems to do the work of the pillows by keeping everything in line

*I'll add that most of my pregnancy pain is upper back and neck area, probably from the heavy and sore boobs. I usually just get hip pain laying on the couch.

I'm right there with you, all the way from Cornwall! I'm 19 weeks +4, and guess this it from now on lol.
Last night was the worst night I've had so far, I'm completely pooped today, and
aching all over. I could not get comfortable at all, my hips and shoulders were in so much pain. And if I did manage to find a certain angle that was a little bit more comfy, I had to get up to pee!
I've got a comfy mattress topper, and use pillows to help me as well. But last night nothing was working, sadly! I might take the topper off and see if that helps. Fingers crossed for tonight.
Hope you ladies have a better nights sleep. Xx
  • I'm not really in pain or anything but I struggle to get comfortable and then wake up a lot during the night, mostly needing to pee or desperate for some water. Then I struggle to get to sleep again. I tried a body pillow but last night it just got in my way.
  • Ugh, me too... My favorite position to sleep in is on my back, and at 18w I finally can't do it anymore. But sleeping on my side is sooo uncomfortable, because it feels like my bump is pulling on my ribs. Not to mention the restless legs, the peeing, and general wide-awakedness. My sleepless nights didn't start nearly this early with my first pregnancy.

    Sleepless in NC here.

  • Update: I purchased a snoogle. Will report back tomorrow!
  • @amargaret24 and @anightintunisia fellow LA lady here! I'm having trouble because this seems to be the first week where I can't lay on my stomach anymore. It's definitely a hard adjustment for me to side sleep and just like the rest of you I'm tossing and turning. I have a little dog who I've had for 8 years and we usually cuddle at night but my restlessness is disturbing him and making him jump on and off the bed ALL NIGHT. Needless to say, the sound of his feet hitting the wood constantly makes matters even worse.
    Ugh!
  • Haven't posted in a while...but I'm in the same boat. I got in here and saw this and almost burst in tears...my poor wife...I feel like such a pain in the ass...not to mention waking up like a zombie asshole! My lower back, hips, and shoulders are killing me as soon as I hit the bed. Peeing like 5 times throughout the night...it's seriously torture...my ob suggested that I take one benadryl before bed just to help me fall asleep. I'm afraid though bc I don't want to fall on my way to the bathroom to pee!!!
  • @sgafbag @anightintunisia where abouts in LA are you ladies? ftm's?
  • @amargaret24 I live in Venice, and yep I'm a FTM (due 1/20). You?
  • Sleepless in Fort Worth. How do y'all afford to keep your AC on 65 at night time??? That sounds like a dream! I think our AC might burst if I tried that here lol
  • I fell asleep last night right after dinner. 3 hours later I woke up wide awake. I didn't manage to get back to sleep until about 3am. Then had to get up a billion times to pee. Yes and crazy dreams.
  • I've never been more thankful for our super pillow top mattress until now, but I could use about 12 more pillows. I go to bed before my husband and use his pillow to help fall asleep. Sometimes he lets me keep them, sometimes.... He ain't having it. : )
  • I caved and bought a back n belly pillow. It's a million times better then the snoogle. I'm not 100% happy with it bc it's huge, but I'm mostly happy with it. Still getting up to pee and then too awake to sleep, but at least my sciatica isn't burning so badly I can't lay down properly.

I'm 18w tomorrow and can't believe this is happening now. I don't remember being this uncomfortable this early last time. And yes ladies it is only going to get worse. 22w to go!
  • I'm 17 weeks tomorrow, I can't believe how hard it is to sleep already. Does anyone else have kinda sharp pain on the low sides of your belly by your hips? If I lay on my left side the right side hurts, and vise versa. I think it's muscle pain from everything expanding. But it's a little annoying when I'm trying to sleep. I haven't told my doc about it yet cuz it started since my last appointment.
  • Sleepless in WI...

Not having any discomfort with sleeping positions, just insomnia. I'll be sooooo tired during the day but once I lie down my body is like, NOPE! Let's stay AWAKE! And then when I do fall asleep, I'll wake up 2 hrs later to pee...

Lucky for DH the other night, we made cupcakes for a reveal for his coworkers from us. Ended up starting them super late so when I woke up wide awake at 3 am I had enough energy to frost and decorate them. Sucks for me, good for him. Oh well...

Sleepless in Seattle for me. I pee like 3 times a night and it's annoying. Plus I'm always hot even though the window is open and 2 fans are blowing on me. And my back hurts no matter what position I lay in. So I'm always tired and ready for a nap at like noon lol
  • Chicago!
I have my daughters cold, and can't breathe out of my nose. I feel like I just cat nap through the night most of the time. I haven't slept well in a while.

I got this randomly when I woke up the other day. I was wondering what it was too? I just assumed everything was moving around in there and it was hurting.
  • I use an exercise ball to stretch out my hips. It's really helped. I just experienced the limbs falling asleep for the first time last night and I fricken hate that feeling. If someone needed to torture me for info they could make my limbs fall asleep while being sleep deprived. I'd sing like a canary.
  • Experiencing the same at 19wks! My legs get all crampy and I can't seem to adjust to being a side sleeper. More than that, these wild dreams are destroying my desire to sleep!
  • Sleepless in Detroit. Boyfriend is late getting home from work. I have a super stuffy nose and randomly upset stomach... let alone my hips, lower back, and groin muscles are killing me after my wonderful dog tripped me yesterday and I landed in the splits (I wish I was exaggerating).
  • Tanzania!
My hips are so sore and my lower back and sides are really uncomfortable. I'm 19w4d and the pains started 3 days ago and have just gotten worse and worse. I als pee three times a night but I easily go back offsite just finding the right position when I first need to dose off.
  • ...Canada! Couldn't sleep all night because I had my anatomy scan today, and I was so nervous about any potential health issues. Fortunately it is a healthy baby!
  • update here ladies...... So, I got my Snoogle. Thought it was amazing the first night but last night, didn't sleep! Last night, the Snoogle was TOO snoogly. The night before, just snoogly enough. I turned the AC down to 64. I was freezing but burning up. Blah!!!! Tonight I will try Snoogle again but I will make sure I have better neck support. I have a headache......
