Anyone else thinking of having a Gender Reveal party? If so, any good ideas for food, decorations, games, invites etc? Love to hear the different ideas other people come up with.

I'm new to this so I didn't really think it mattered if there was duplicate posts. I've seen plenty of duplicates on here. And I kind of wanted my own personal post to go back and reference too

If everyone had their own post for everything, there wouldn't be anything but duplicate posts. We try to discourage them as much as possible.
In addition, you'll notice you aren't actually getting responses. That's because those that have something to contribute to this topic (and there aren't many people who want to because most of us don't like sex reveal parties anyway) have already done so multiple times. No one wants to keep typing out the same answers over and over again.

Well I believe this is a place where you could post discussions on how you feel and hear other people's thoughts.
Also, how can you speak for the majority to say most of them don't like Gender Reveal parties. Everyone has their own opinion. I for one, love the idea of them. I am a first time mother and I'm sure their are plenty of first time mothers on here as well. If no one answers that's fine, I won't lose any sleep over it. I figured I'd just utilize this app the way it should be utilized.
I posted a discussion about severe back pain yesterday. I'm sure that's been discussed plenty of times but I've gotten comments on it.
back pain and a party are pretty different...one is a legit symptom and the other is an optional extravagance that not too many people partake in on this board...

Well, having been here since literally the beginning of this board, I can tell you how "gender reveal" posts go over. Because I've seen it... time and time again. That's how I can speak for the majority.
You are free to post whatever you want, clearly. I was trying to be helpful in redirecting you because I doubt you're going to get the answers you're looking for here. You may get a few responses but most people are tired of the subject. But better to let your post get buried and leave you wondering, I guess...
I don't think most people I know care all that much about my child's genitals so I won't be subjecting them to a party just to announce a penis or vagina.
Not quite sure why you're getting all worked up. @AdventureMama suggested linking to other posts because you can get a lot of information from them. Most people would say thank you. Anyway...
My opinion is that they are mostly tacky and gift grabby. But that's probably not what you want to hear. I would use the search function if you want any legitimate responses.

Like I said, I am new to this. I wouldn't really know much about it. I just didn't think it would be a big deal if I posted about something I was curious about.
Just sounded a little rude but I guess I misinterpreted the text. I'm sorry for that and if you are really being helpful than thank you very much, I do appreciate it. Not trying to argue with anyone on here just trying to use this the way I thought it was supposed to be used.
I'm not going to have a gender reveal party because the baby's gender is still unknown for all of us, and will be for a long time, given that it's a personal identification, often has nothing to do with one's anatomy, and can't possibly be determined now.
back pain and a party are pretty different...one is a legit symptom and the other is an optional extravagance that not too many people partake in on this board...
I completely get that but there are plenty of discussions about announcements, baby gender, names, baby showers and many other things that are considered extravagant. Didn't really think I was wrong for posting this in a place that has to do with babies.

No worries! That's why lurking a bit is good. If you haven't read it yet, the "New Here? Read Me First" thread is full of great information. And I'm still happy to help you find other gender reveal idea threads if you'd like. And yes, it's hard to interpret tone of voice through text like this. I promise, we're nice people! We just sometimes get tired of the same questions over and over again. And in this case I don't really think you'll get any new answers, so old threads can help a lot. If you use the little magnifying glass next to the page number navigation you can search just in Feb16 for other threads similar to this.
Then that's different. The only one I've been invited to was totally about the gifts. As in bring diapers for the diaper raffle, bring a book in place of a card, etc. and I can't stand that, so I guess they are ruined for me. As a family event, I could see it being totally fun, but we don't live near family so not an option for us
@AdventureMama Thank you so much Really is much appreciated. I definitely will check it out. Like I said to someone else on here, my family just likes to get together and do things like this and since this is my first time it does get a little stressful and overwhelming lol but I'm keeping it together.
I'm having one. Getting a cute cake and ordering a hero from an Italian deli and making a couple trays of pasta for my family (just family not friends---well except my best friend lol). No one will be bringing gifts. I also bought some cute decorations from etsy. I think I'll make a blue and pink punch and have some beer and a few bottles of wine for people if they want. But, I suggest searching etsy- there's cute stuff on there

An entire party centered around what's between your child's legs is very AWish/unnecessary to me. Instead why don't you just host a dinner party and have cute cupcakes or something to reveal the sex?

That sounds like a cute idea, we had a "reveal" but it wAs At the same party as the baby shower so not two events

Wait... How is that not a sex reveal party?

I think a gender (or sex) reveal party would be super fun. I think most people view them as a small hangout with friends and some fun desserts, drinks, etc.
Another poster suggested revealing the gender at the shower but that seems inconvenient because then gift buyers can't select for the gender.
I've never been to a gender reveal party but would love to go to one. How fun! Better than sitting at home on a Friday night. Right?
As an additional note, I don't think duplicate threads are so bad. Especially if they are topics that relate to a lot of people. I'd rather read about things like party ideas than read women whining about their symptoms everyday.

It works just fine. They make plenty of neutral colored things... You get more things you actually need instead of 30 outfits you think are ugly! I got mostly diapers which was awesome! We didn't buy diapers for a LoNg time! We got grey hair brushes, or other neutral items.
Many Things Don't matter what color they are like a play mat, a car seat set, hair brush, and burp rags. My daughter could care less that she didn't have the pink fisher price piano mat.
Team green people have baby showers all of the time too.

@surferP528 - I'm sorry that you have to listen to women whine about their symptoms, but a lot of us are on here because we want know that we are not alone and that what we are experiencing is normal. Many of us have experienced extreme difficulties or losses. Also, this forum is a great way to do some healthy venting of our crazy hormonal thoughts and feelings and to give our partners a break. There are plenty of weekly posts for us to do that and you don't have to read those. However, we are on the same page that a million repeat posts about headaches are frustrating. Repeat posts in general are frustrating because they clog up the board and are unnecessary. No one is going to say anything different on your special post than they did to anyone else. That is why the OP was appropriate re-routed to use the search function as all other repeat posters are. It may not bother you if you aren't a frequent user, but stick around for a while and you will change your mind.
@camusoh2011 I didn't even know there was a search function, until now, so that's first of all. I'm pretty sure I can do what ever I please, no reason for the attitude.
@QueenWaldorf4 I mean I guess that's kind of a gender reveal party though no? Lol.. But I get what you mean nothing to big and crazy which is exactly what I wanted. Just close family to come over and hang out and have cake just to reveal the sex.
I read a cute idea.. Give the sealed envelope to a close family member/friend and have them throw a surprise gender reveal party for you and your husband! We may do that since it's our 3rd and our 2 girls are so excited. Just have them get cute pink or blue party favors or however they want to do it and surprise us!
@cbou I agree with the venting. This is a first time pregnancy for me and I'd like to feel like I'm not alone with a lot of things and some of the whining helps me to feel that way. As far as the duplicate posts, I get what everyone is saying. Like I said I just discovered this a few days ago so I really wouldn't understand as much as other. I have been using this frequently since I've started so I guess I will understand soon enough.
@x3tbellaa I plan on having a sex reveal party. Very low key, I'm planning on getting my family and DH family over for a dinner and then just surprising them with cupcakes for an after dinner treat. Prior to having them over for dinner there will be no mention of "sex reveal" that way nobody feels obligated to bring a gift. It's a win win for us... And a lot less phone calls to make!

It could be really fun for siblings and a fun way for them to get use to the fact that they are having another sibling
@tooba22 That's actually a cute idea, and I love the fact that they won't even know they're coming for the reveal. I'm going to have my doctor put it in and envelope and we're just going to give it to our bakery. We won't know and neither will our family so it will be a surprise for everyone.

Dd barely even knows what pink is so I know that's not her favorite.
