3 Hour Glucose Test tomorrow. Woohoo.

Well, happy hour wasn't too great yesterday. My levels were just above the cutoff line so I'm going in for my 3-hour test tomorrow.
I've got my fingers crossed it'll be okay, but you never know!
A family friend of mine had it with her last child, and no one would've expected her to have it.

Re: 3 Hour Glucose Test tomorrow. Woohoo.

  • How many weeks are you? I am 21 and they haven't even mentioned it to me yet. I thought it was at 24 or 28 weeks last time... But surely they would have told me if it was going to happen at my next appointment?

Anyways, good luck to you tomorrow!!!

  • Good luck! My test is in a few weeks. How was the first one? I have low blood pressure so I'm a little worried about not being able to eat for that long.
@littleSkittle14 you're correct, it is usually at 24 weeks.
  • Good luck! Keep us posted! I go for mine in 2 weeks... They're waiting for the 27-28 week mark. I scheduled mine super early so I can eat afterwards and won't be starved all day. Although they said I could eat just stay away from sugary stuff. (@rmarie13) you may wanna ask about that. I'll probably snack on buttery toast before so hopefully it won't mess my stomach up. Heard it isn't fun on an empty tummy.
  • My 1-hour is next Thursday and I'm kinda nervous. My OB didn't say anything about fasting or what kind of food to avoid beforehand. My mum had GD when pregnant with me and she said it was entirely unexpected. How was the drink for the first one? Gross? Good luck!

Lucky!! My dr specifically told me I couldn't eat anything so I made the appointment for 8am. I have to bring a sample of my first urine of the day too... Not sure if they want to middle of the night one or morning one :))
I'll bring a snack just in case though. Hopefully all of our tests turn out great!
  • For the 1hr I was told to eat normally but no excess sugar and high protein, with some protein a couple hours before the test. Mine was in the morning so I had eggs for breakfast. Just like OP, my 1hr level was just over the limit, so I did the 3hr this week fasting, first thing in the morning. Threw up the drink at 1hr so have to do it again tomorrow. My fasting glucose from the first draw looked great, and the false positive rate on the 1hr is really high, so I'm not worrying until I have a reason to. Hope everyone's tests go well! My advice for the 3hr is to have a protein snack before bed the night before to stabilize blood sugar.
  • I had the "privilege" of participating in the three hour test last Saturday. I was rather concerned about not feeling well and being extremely hungry. I did have to fast for the 3 hour test but not for the 1 hour. I will say I had absolutely no problem with it and wasn't really that hungry afterward. I was able to leave after the second hour because both my levels passed-I just had to pass two of the three draws. I think my doctor is going to make me do the three hour test again before we reach the end too. Yeah! At least I know it's really not that bad. There are some interesting people that come through the lab. It's entertaining.
  • They scheduled me for the test at exactly 24 weeks which was yesterday. I was told eat normally, but to avoid a lot of sugar. For tomorrow's 3-hour test, I have to fast, no eating past midnight tonight.
I'll be going in the morning to have my initial blood drawn, then enjoying the delicious beverage follow by my blood being drawn at 1 hour, two hours and then three hours.

They don't do the testing any earlier than 24 weeks at my OB's office. When looking up information online, 24 weeks is when y do the test unless someone seems to be at higher risk of GD.

  • I did the one and three at 12/13 weeks because I had GDM with both of my previous kids. I was borderline on the 3 hr so I have to take just the 3 hr again at 28 weeks. I am completely NOT thrilled about it. I take something with me like a PB and J to eat right after my lady draw so I don't feel too shaky.
  • I had to do the 3 hour test the other week because my glucose level was high on my 16 week blood work and then I failed the 1 hour test. My best advice would be to pack a lunch to eat in the car when you get done because you will be very hungry by then. Also, bring a snack in that you can eat on the way out of the doctors office. My numbers after my last blood draw were super low and I felt light headed as I was walking to my car. As soon as I ate my lunch I felt fine but eating something ASAP would've been even better.
  • I'm 24+3 and still haven't done the glucose test, I go with my ob when I'm 26+3 not really concern if he hasn't mention it well I'll just see what happens !
  • I'm doing mine just before 26 weeks. With my son we did it at the same time and I really didn't find it that bad. I'll just else something to eat straight afterwards, apart from that it's just a little boring.
