@dparker721 , which is exactly what the nutritionist said the week prior. But I have kept within the 120 after 2 hrs.
It makes no sense. Im so devastated I had to cry it out when I told DH. And my worry is I'm jot gaining weight, yet they both Dr and nutritionist are ok with it. I'm getting close to pre pregnancy weight
I am actually surprised at the doc who doesn't freak out over 1 high. I am gonna venture a guess and say that they could think you are lying about there only being 1. I controlled mine with diet for a month, with maybe 5 highs. I say that's pretty damn good considering how severe mine gets as pregnancy progresses. But yes, they will put you on meds for a high or 2.
@mamaowl15, 80's are PERFECT! I am surprised you were even diagnosed.... Serious, keep the monitor and a few weeks after you deliver, go eat a big fat ice cream sundae, take your sugar at 1 hour, and I bet you it's in the 80's. That's how my husbands is lol.
Oh and all of you ladies, in my experience, they do NST's every 3 days. I am not sure if that's for ALL high risk women, but starting on Aug 20th, I go in every Monday and Thursday at 1. Every!!!! I will be there at least an hour. They hook me up to the monitor, and what they want is for baby's heart rate to accelerate 3 times in 20 mins to over 180? I think. It's been a while. And if I fail, we have to wait until he does it. So I am going to do my best to be able to drink some coconut water or something with some sugar to get him going before hand. At least I can have some sugasr on insulin, I guess I should be thankful for that.
@saveinsincity does the nutritionist agree with you? I have had a few high numbers but I can usually pin point was triggered it. Once I tell my OB/NP what the trigger was they are fine and move on. They have outright told me that a few high numbers are not a big deal but that once it becomes a pattern then they look into insulin. Could you push back on your Dr about the meds? I know fasting is the hardest to control but if you have only had 1 high reading then I would think it wasn't an issue.

I had 91 this morning for fasting and 112 1 hour after a relatively low-carb breakfast. I definitely don't think I have a severe case of GD, which is good. I'll be curious to see what my blood sugar does after baby comes, since I have PCOS, which is linked to insulin resistance and blood sugar issues.
As for appointments, I had an appointment a week ago, then yesterday, and I go back on Monday. I'm 32 weeks today, and normally you do the glucose test at 28 weeks, not 31. I had pre-e with my son so they probably want to monitor that as well. I may be at weekly appointments now but I'm not sure. My doctor did say something about ultrasounds to monitor growth, but I don't know how often that will be.
@MandahGirly My fast numbers are under control at less than 95. Which is the suggested reading. I has been told that a high number wouldn't be a cause to go for meds, but yet here I am. I called the office back today and they just said it was advised and no way to discuss it further. My OB doesn't say much, he just leaves it up to them. What I found 'humorous ' was the nurse I spoke to said, they move to meds to ensure baby is not a risk by being a c section so I said, I don't have a choice for that cuz my 1st was a c section so doctor is moving with another c section now. She was like, oh .

I will find out the mystery conclusion on Friday.
I would fight this. That seems unnecessary to me, but I'm not a doctor. I'm not one to take medications without just cause. I'm actually getting a second opinion because the dr I met with last week wanted to immediately place me on insulin without seeing any numbers but my 3hr glucose test, and my numbers weren't outrageous. Ive been pretty far below on all my home testing numbers but 1. If you don't feel thats whats best for you and you're LO then I'd get a second option.

Anyone else feel like they are absolutely starving or as soon as you eat stuffed to the max?! I can't eat as many carbs as they recommend in a day without eating a piece of cake or ice cream (
I've had 3 where I tested over 120. A 122, 126, and 135. I know what I did to cause those, but that one cinnamon roll was so good! Just not mixed with the fruit I ate. Everything else has been testing ok. Even after a wedding meal and cake my 2 hour was 97. I haven't changed much diet wise other than cutting out orange juice and haven't had much problem. My high numbers were do to a large meal like jimmy johns or having a bit more in the sweets category which I normally don't do. I sometimes feel like I'm testing for nothing even though a failed tolerance test needs to be treated as such. Ultimately I failed the 3 hour by 6 lousy points. Hopefully my numbers stay good, I go back in 3 weeks to see how it's all going.
I just started tracking my sugars yesterday and they were all below 100... This morning I took my fasting number and it is 104... Why would that be so high!?
I've only been doing the diet my doctor to me too for 1 day (was just watching my carbs for the few days before my appointment). Yesterday I was STARVING all day.
I'm pretty sure that my diet before was a lot higher in carbs, so I was thinking more protein would mean I'd feel fuller with less, but not so much. Maybe it's the tiny portions? I can eat 1 egg, 1 piece of toast and 1 strip of bacon for breakfast. That's half a breakfast, not a whole breakfast to me.
I just started tracking my sugars yesterday and they were all below 100... This morning I took my fasting number and it is 104... Why would that be so high!?
From what I have read, there is a thing called Dawn Phenomenon that happens. Your body thinks it's starving, and so it releases glucose in the morning because it isn't sure if it's going to get food. That's what I think happens with me. It's yet another one of those diabetic mysteries. I should write a book about it. The Diabetic Mysteries and Me. I mean, I am ON insulin, and my fasting this morning, 6 hours from shot to wake up was 101. That's a win for me!
@mamaowl15, NO KIDDING! You see what I mean about the crazy portions. 1 freaking oz of meat does not a portion make to a mama who is trying to grow a human. And FWIW, my diabetoligist, who happens to be an Indian vegetarian, tells me Oh, don't eat REAL bacon, eat turkey bacon....I just looked at her and said NO, turkey bacon SUCKS. I will eat what I want thanks. I mean especially on meds, there is no reason that I should freaking starve myself!
@FrozenMommy, I am going to ask my doctor at my next appointment how closely I'm supposed to be following this diet anyway. Between the small portions leaving me hungry and my sugar being too high after a meal (131, 134 when it's supposed to be under 130) . . . And I'm sure this diet not giving me enough calories for someone who's currently around 200 lbs and growing a human - I wouldn't mind if I lost some weight but that's certainly not the goal right now. Of course this diet is designed to be low-fat because of the incorrect assumption that low-fat is healthiest.
I don't think I can handle bread right now and I don't think two eggs or two strips of bacon will hurt my baby.
@mamaowl15, yah no. Eat that protein as much as you want. That's another thing she told me, essentially, we want you to be dieting. I am like DAFUQ??? That was fine and dandy before you put me on insulin....there's just no way on earth I can do both. Before meds, I was eating paleo. So I had nut flours, and coconut flours for "grains". Oh no no no, we need you eating whole grains. Ok fine. But when I need 70 units of insulin to cover just 1 whole grain piece of toast, that drops me down at 2 hours to 60-70, and then I need to eat again, and I need to eat SUGAR. Even fruit at that point doesn't even raise my sugars. It's the weirdest thing. After bfast and after lunch are obviously when I am most active, so it drops dramatically. And then I am forced to eat sugar. So losing weight is just not an option at this point in the pregnancy. But like I said, I am not going to starve myself anymore. And even 2 pieces of bacon, yah poo on that. I eat 2 eggs, 4 bacons and a toast. If you are going over 130 often, just consider insulin. It's so not that bad if you know how to control it. And you get to eat sugar. I got the full sugar greek yogurts and I love that part of my day. Sorry I am ranting but I am so tired today.
I have been snacking hard core on nuts and cheese. I went to Costco and bought all of the Baby Bells! I ask try to put in a lot of protein into my meal since I find that it keeps me full longer and it breaks down the carbs better. Usually I find myself hungry the most after breakfast or after dinner when I have worked out beforehand.
When someone finds out how to fix the fasting numbers please share! I've tried different late night snacks and eating them at different times and it doesn't help. I finally emailed my dietitian today asking for help because I have yet to get my ketones at negative on top of the bad fasting numbers. After every meal my numbers are just fine and I seem to have bread with every meal. I'll put a sample diet day for me below. And I have a brochure with "free" foods that you can eat and it's not supposed to affect your sugars at all if you are still finding yourself hungry like sugar free gelatin, pickles, sugar free popsicles, salad greens.
Fasting started at 96
Breakfast- blueberry waffle No syrup and a cup of cantaloupe-Tested at 96
Snack-cup of trail mix with peanuts, MnM's and raisins
Lunch-PBJ sandwich, string cheese and cup of carrots-Tested at 93
Snack-cup of trial mix again
Dinner-Spinach/Chicken Manicotti (just one), Cheese filled breadstick and side salad with light olive garden dressing-Tested at 109
Snack-Dried Snap Peas
I find myself eating more bread now than I did before! For lunch it's usually PBJ or Grilled Cheese Sandwich
@jenspeake, did you count calories for the day. To me that seems like not a whole lot. But you need to add a protein at night. Those dried snap peas have none, just carbs.
@mamaowl15, yah no. Eat that protein as much as you want. That's another thing she told me, essentially, we want you to be dieting. I am like DAFUQ??? Rant away. I'm getting hangry over here. I had a cheese stick and a cup of sugar-free, fat free jello in addition to the "prescribed" snack of 1 protein exchange (100 cal pack of almonds), and 1 starch exchange (a handful of goldfish crackers) and I "cheated" and had 3 baby carrots. I was ravenous after that . . .
I'm thinking for lunch I'm just going to have protein and vegetables and see what that does to my sugars. The high numbers I've been getting were after eating whole wheat bread. If I can control my numbers without insulin, I'd prefer that. I can live without ice cream for a few more weeks. I can even give up fruit if I have to. But I cannot take feeling like I haven't eaten in hours AFTER a meal.
ETA: if I'm still over 130 with more protein/fewer carbs, I have no problem going on insulin, whether or not that means I can eat more sugar. I just want to avoid it if possible.
I haven't had a number in range in 2 weeks. Every number is high and I even spiked to 211 the other day. After some chicken noodle soup. I now have NST's every Tuesday, see the dietitian again today, and then have to now see a high risk OB. My doc said I will more than likely be put on insulin if we can't get it adjusted this week with a diet change. Not to mention that I've only gained 15 pounds and none of that has been in the past 3 weeks. I started at 125 lbs and am now 140 lbs. Baby is only measuring in the 17th percentile and my belly is measuring small. So seriously frustrating. Had a break down yesterday after the doctor's and cried on and off for about 3 hours. I feel like I'm failing at pregnancy even when I do everything I'm told to do.
I think it would be nice for us to share a sample day for us. Here is what I had yesterday.
Breakfast: 1 cup milk - 2 slices low carb whole wheat bread - slice of cheese - 2 eggs - turkey sausage BS after 1 hour: 125 Snack: 1/2 mixed nuts and 1 piece of string cheese Lunch: 4 tomato, basil and mozzarella sandwiches with 4 slices of uncured salami as the "bread" and 1/4 cup olives BS after 1 hour: 90 Snack: 1 apple Dinner: pork stir fry with brown sauce peppers and edamame and a whole wheat low carb wrap BS after 1 hour: 118 Snack: 2 baby bell cheeses and a strawberry Popsicle with chocolate shell (I forget the brand)
I don't have to check my fasting numbers in the morning anymore because they have always been under but my fasting was usually 79-90
Some of you ladies are lucky to have sandwiches and milk. I can only do 1 slice of bread or I hit more than 125. I haven't had fruit since I started this journey, because I have read it does causes spikes. The nutritionist said think of fruits as 1 carbs. So i rather not throw that into the equation. My highest number has been 150, darn beans.
I try my best to stick to counting those carbs before eating it. My usual is 2 scrambled eggs and 1 slice whole wheat toast and I get a 115 -118.
I'm with @aschafke , I broke down and cried out my frustration. I think I cried on and off for like 2 hrs. Poor DH didn't have a clue how to deal with this breakdown. Especially cuz he caused the chain reaction by offering a protein burger with no dressing from in n out for dinner, in an effort to cheer me up. It's a struggle ladies, but we are almost there. I shall know how baby boy is doing growth wise next week and see if he is thriving after all this deprivation.
I can keep my numbers under 100 if I limit carbs and take a 10-15 min walk after my meals. I don't need to speed walk or anything. Just a walk. If you guys haven't tried, its worth a shot.
I just started my diet yesterday, but in finding I can't have bread either. Eating the recommended amount of carbs, my sugars are in the 130s 1 hour after eating. Not super high but still higher than they need to be.
For lunch today, I had a pretty low-carb meal and got 101 an hour later. So it's looking like no more bread for me till October.
@FrozenMommyI have not been counting my calories. They just want to make sure that I'm getting 15 carb counts a day. I tried last night just eating peanut butter for my snack and still had a high fasting today. Now I'm going to try getting my butt up and moving some more and see if that helps! Sucks sitting at a desk all day and constantly in meetings. The night I just tried the snap peas was because I was eating frozen yogurt and spiking so I tried low carb snack to see what would happen. Been trying to experiment with different late night snacks each night and varying the times.
Well since my stress levels hit 1000 today, I took 70 units of insulin, and ate taco bell. Because F today, that's why. Whatever, it's still a crap ton of protein. I am so over this.

I promise you are not failing!! The only thing I am a 100% sure of is I can not trust my body while pregnant. I don't feel bad, I don't eat bad, I have no crazy symptoms and my body hates me still:) as long as the baby is fine, I will be fine. It sucks to have to worry about another thing but maybe this is just one more thing preparing us for motherhood and/or the changes to come with adding another baby!
I had high fasting (Ranging from 114-135) and they prescribed me insulin at night. The dose was too low so they just upped it. Fingers crossed I wake up tomorrow below 90!
They said I may also end up taking it in the morning. I'm a-ok with it. The insulin is not scary! It has a tiny needle and honestly hurts WAY less than poking my fingers 4x a day. I barely feel the insulin injection at all.
After 2 days with fasting numbers in the low 90s after having small amounts of sugar the night before (2 spoonfuls of of DH's pumpkin ice cream Monday and about 5-6 of DS's jelly beans Tuesday), I decided to avoid all sugar before bed and woke up with 99 this morning!
What's up with that? Do I need something with sugar before bed? What would y'all recommend?
@MamaOwl15 I'm beginning to think there is no magical trick! So last night I tried a protein bar and sugar free jello....bad fasting numbers this morning! I've tried frozen yogurt bar, low carb, high protein....nothing seems to be working! the only thing I HAVEN'T tried is NO snack at all! I'm waiting to hear back from dietitian to see if she sees something in my food diary that I can change. Finally though had negative ketones today! Yay!
Morning all. Soooo, last night I had a mini bag of popcorn around 10:30, then a cheese stick just before bed at 11 with my shot....6:30 it was 78!!!! Imagine my shocked face at that number......

Not sugar per se, but carbs for sure. Like I said, the high fasting comes from your body releasing glucose, because it doesn't know when you will feed it again. It's SUCH a crap shoot you guys. Watch, I will eat that same snack tonight and tell you what happens tomorrow K. Cause it won't be 78 again I can tell you that much!

Even blueberries seemed to raise my blood sugar. I'm already on insulin and incredibly frustrated.
For example- here was a day's food and numbers:
Fasting -122
B- peanut butter on whole wheat toast (super whole wheat with flax and everything) and a piece of cheese 126
S- plum and 2 string cheese
L- chicken and broccoli 94
S- milk and whole grain cereal (probably shouldn't have done that but I was starving and in a hurry!)
D- steak and broccoli 129
