George is my dad's name and I always thought it was so weird. Gemma is totally a GP name for me too, but now I think of this and it makes that name even BETTER!!!
My grandfather's name was George, and I never met a younger George in my whole life, so I always thought it would be fun. I guess I haven't checked to see if it ended up gaining tons of popularity after the royal baby, but I suspected it did or will.

Our GP boy name is Tobias, and we are totally using it
This is on my list! I don't know why I hesitate in using it because I adore the name Toby. Maybe because it just sounds like an old man name? I don't know. But I do really love it. We tried it on DS after he was born but it didn't feel right.
I think Moses is a great GP name! It seems a little out there today, but look how Noah is suddenly the most popular boys name.
I think someone had it on their list on the Baby Names board recently though and they were told by everyone it was a horrible name. (But truthfully, the regulars on that board scare me a little bit. They think with one mind and have very strong opinions.)

I wonder how popular it'll be for a baby name since Divergent came out.

Aww hopefully it won't go up too much. I really like it and I'm not a fan of hugely popular trendy names.
H and I have been planning on naming our girl Elsa since we got married over 3 years ago. Then stupid Frozen came out. Still will use some sort of Ellie (Eloise maybe) but haven't made final decision yet. Screwed if it's a boy since we can't agree on a single name. From the look of this feed, others are in the same boat. Why are boy names so hard!?
For a girl my guilty pleasure names are Cassidy Summer, Savannah Kate and Molly Carmen. They've been completely vetoed by hubs.
As for a boy, I really liked Joshua Michael and Zachary James but again they were vetoed. Luckily he approved of my all time favorite boy name Nicholas so if honey bee is a boy I get my Nicky!!!
I thought of another GP name. Sierra Nevada Lastname. I thought this would be the COOLEST NAME EVER in seventh grade and swore I'd grow up to have a daughter named after a mountain range.
I really wanted to consider Poppy as a girl's name. We had a loss earlier this year and baby was only the size of a poppy seed. I just feel like it would be nice. My husband doesn't like the name and he thinks it's morbid. O well
For years we also were planning on Scarlett as a first name but it's too close to Charlotte so we are jumping ship on that.

I think Poppy is nice and I can see it as a nod to your loss, but also see YH's point. We had chosen the name Jack, then lost the baby and both decided it would be too hard to "reuse" that name and think of our loss every time we talked about our new baby (if it's a boy). I'm sorry for your loss.

I like that name, but it completely makes me think of Arrested Development and I don't think I could do that to my son . . .
I'm looking into astrological/mythological names now. I really like Callisto which in astrology is the 4th moon of Jupiter and in mythology (don't quote me on this because I'm still researching) had a thing for Zeus and was trying to hide out from Juno. She ultimately ended up transforming into a bear after wandering into forbidden territory and that is where the constellation comes from as well. DH has been talking about liking the name Callie and thought this could be a perfect nn for Callisto. Is it horrible? Be honest... but don't rip me a new one lol.
I think that's cool, however, the O automatically makes me think it's masculine. With that said, Callista is on my name list with the nn Callie.
My daughters have gender neutral names (Reagan and Rory) so we were thinking Riley if it's a girl but I really want to get away from the R's but the H is insistent. I love all the flower names but our last name is Fields haha
I've never seen Arrested Development but even I know who Tobias is and couldn't use the name for that reason. BUT I have no problem naming a kid Toby and leaving it at that. That's what I will do if I decide to use it.
I love girl names that are hard to pronounce or spell, like Saorise, Morrigan, or Cassiopeia. I don't think the boy names I like are too crazy; our forerunner is currently Cormac.
S/P L salpingo-oophorectomy w/ septic torsion 1999, dx moderate to severe Crohn's dz 2004. DH S/P hypospadic sx w/ multiple subsequent scar tissue removals, S/P herniorrhaphy. Married on 10/7/2006! TTC since May 2011; abnormal SA #1, better SA #2, normal HSG 7/2012, dx MFI/ low egg count, IUI!

Cormac Mclaggen was such a jerk in the Harry Potter books so I couldn't use that name. Yes fictional jerks affect me more than actual people that are jerks.
I used to love the name Remy, but once I got into GOT I immediately struck it from my list. H would've vetoed it anyway.
Speaking of GOT, I hear names like Kahleesi, Daenerys and Arya are getting popular because of the show. I wonder how the kids would feel about being named after a tv show when they grow up. It's not like those are common names that gained popularity because of the show. These are completely fictional names that were made up by Mr. Martin himself.

if you spell Arya as Aria it would be a term in opera...but also another fictional name from Pretty Little Liars..

That's true. Arya could be a real name. Speaking of PPL, I binge watched during my last maternity leave (up to season 3 or 4)... I see that the show is still going on, did they ever reveal who the true A is?

We get to supposedly see his face on tonight's episode. Every time they "reveal" who A is, it's super disappointing. I saw a great photo thing on instagram about it last week it said something like: Season 1 - Who is A? Season 3 - Who Isn't A? Season 4 - Am I A? Season 6 - Who the F*** cares!?

Aria is also on my name list but I doubt we'll use it because it doesn't flow well with the middle name we have picked out.
I was named after a TV character from a popular 80s show and it has never affected or bothered me. I mean, by time I was old enough to understand, the show was off the air and not something I'd have been interested in at that age anyway. Now, it's so far removed from me that if I were to watch it now, it would just be like "oh, we have the same name"

@funkypineapple I am just curious (and you don't have to answer if you aren't comfortable). Would people know instantly which show/ character you were named after, once you hear the name? or is it a name (common or not) like, something most people would identify as a name of a real person, and you wouldn't necessarily know that it's after a character unless they were told. I just wonder because I think those are two different situations.
One of my friend is named Scarlett, because her mom loved the movie Gone with the Wind, but until she told me why her name was Scarlett, I didn't think she was named after anyone specific. Whereas if I meet someone name Khaleesi, I know exactly where that came from.
Tobias definitely reminds me of AD, but it doesn't ruin it for some reason. It just seems so dorky that it's really adorable. Also totally works for an adult man because it's not childish-sounding with the long 'i'.

Yeah, I feel like the trick with naming kids after TV/movie characters is that it shouldn't be instantly recognizable as ONE TV character. Like, the name Punky? Yeah that probably wouldn't be great. But, say.... Samantha from Who's the Boss? NBD.
It's like I wouldn't name my kid Hermione, because you immediately think HP, but I wouldn't mind Lavender or Ginny or something a little less distinct.

Yeah I was looking and there isn't any reason you couldn't change the O to an A, though in mythology she spelled it with an O. We'll see what DH thinks.
We picked Lux for a girl and then realized what it rhymes with . Now we can't agree. I LOVE Aria but it's so popular. I also love Indigo and Clover. He hates these all.
