Guilty Pleasure Names

I mentioned in the UO thread that I really like some boy names for girls, though I'm not sure I'd ever actually use them. Does anyone else want to share some of their guilty pleasure names?

Some of my others include Poppy, Tallulah, and Daisy. I think they're just too cutesy and little girl-ish for my taste but I still really like them.

Re: Guilty Pleasure Names

  • I love boy names for girls even though I probably won't use one. Another one is Everly. I like the way it sounds and I like the nn Evie. It is just too trendy for me to use. Especially since my other two girls have traditional names.

Boys names I like for girls are Ryan, Dylan and Kyle.

  • I am a fan of more hippie names (river, harmony, storm, willow) but I doubt I would actually use them.

I love the name Poppy but our son calls his grandfather Poppy so I think that would be confusing.

  • I love male names turned into girl names like Theodora, Georgina, Nicola, etc. but am unlikely to use them.

  • I've loved the name Bailey since I was in the 7th grade but it's gotten way too trendy in the last few years. For a boy I've always loved Nicholas but I know we'll never name a boy that because H associates it to a guy I went to college with he doesn't like at all.

  • I love names from movies and TV shows that I like . . . like Rory or Cosette for a girl, but the hubbs would never go for ones like those (plus we've got our names down already)

I also wish that I could name a son Richard with the nickname Dick (after Dick Grayson, the original Robin) without the annoying connotations :(
  • I love this thread.
Mine are Libby, Maeve, and Evan for a girl but they have thoroughly vetoed by the husband.
For a boy Jules (like Jules Verne). Also vetoed.
  • Zoey or Chloe for a girl. Seth for a boy.. DH already vetoed them though :((

I loooove Libby. I like the name Olivia but I'm not a huge fan of top ten names so it's a no go. But if I used it, I'd definitely use the NN Libby!

  • My guilty pleasure boy name is Zephaniah but Zeph for short .  H and I have only met one Zeph and it was a guy I went to college with.  I always thought he had a awesome name but H would never use it be he thinks we'd be naming a baby after this guy.
  • I really wish I could name my kid after characters from my favorite books but Acheron, Allanon, and Nykyrian are just a bit too weird for my husband ;) also, no one would be able to pronounce some of them. Really great book characters though.

I love the name Jovie but it has been vetoed. I also love more masculine names for girls. I'd love to name a daughter Danny James after mine and DH dad's but he'd never ever go for that.
  • Too popular names like Olivia, Isabella, Lily, and Leah. I also like Liana or Eliana but it wouldn't work with the last name and doesn't sound like "us". Names of students or friends' kids that I love but wouldn't use include Lydia, Claire, Sophie, and Maya.

Stuck on girls names. The only boys name I really like is Daniel. I also briefly liked Ellis but DH told me its not a real name, and he's right. Eli is way too popular right now though.
  • I love Poppy, Willow, and Meadow for a girl. I also love Cedar for a boy.... All have been vetoed :) but I don't think I would actually use them, I just think they are pretty. My other love is boys names for girls. I LOVE Ryan and Mykael for a girl... Also vetoed :(

Anniston Kate nn Annie Kate. I love the nn Annie and Annie Kate goes really well with our last name but I cannot for the life of me find any other Annie names that I like. Edit: I guess I could just name her Annie. But I feel meh about that too. Ugh. We are set on a boy name so at least I'm only half "stressed" haha.
  • I'm using my guilty pleasure name if I have a girl... "Winter"

Hey I have read a book with the main character was Nykyrian!

  • I love Penelope, but our last name already starts with a P, and my maiden name had "pee" in it, and I just can't bring myself to name my child something that ends in pe(e) on top of having the initials PP.  Plus I think it's too popular now anyway.

Annie is one of my favorite names so I have many suggestions for you if you're interested! Ainsley, Annika, Andrea, Anna, Anita, Annabelle, Annalise, AnneMarie... I'm sure there are more!

H said no to Chloe right away. Because he has a friend who has a dog named Chloe. Ugh. I love Chloe.

  • Thanks @AdventureMama! I will run them by my husband! :)
  • I really liked the name Kale (before I knew it was a lettuce) but can't use it now because my mom will never let me hear the end of the lettuce jokes. It's like the one name my husband and I could actually agree on! We really have no other names! I like Lydia, McKenna, Macy but of course my h doesn't like those!

Sherilyn Kenyon's the league series. His book was "Born of Night"
  • I like Milo and Oliver for a boy but don't think we would seriously consider them. I also like Knox, but maybe they are too "trendy?"

I'm a huge fan of boys names for girls, and might end up using one. We'd give her a more femenine middle name so that if she decides she doesn't like the "boy" name she has another cute option.

My cousin just named her boy Cedar last year. He is a red head too. Adorable.
  • @AdventureMama I love the name Annika! But DH vetoed it as well at Natalie. I really liked Charlotte with nn Charlie but now that the new Princess has that name I'm afraid it will be too popular and I already have one kid with a super popular name.
  • I love August for a boy but my husband is dead set against it. Same w most of my boy names :) I also love Ruby and Iris for girl names and those are vetoed. In his opinion anything that is a "noun" can't be a name. His only exception is Autumn (which I'm not crazy about).
  • I have always like Annie, Lucy, June, Eleanor, Bella, Madelyn, Rose… for girls. They have all been vetoed for one reason or another.

I love Isabella for a girl to knickname her Izzy but was vetoed. Bummer!

Love Lucy but unfortunately I never thought I'd have girls and decided to name my dog Lucy :(
My daughters middle name is June so I'm kinda biased. I love it :)

  • My little girl's name is Charleigh! Just like Charlie but spelt to look more girly!! That was our only girl name that we had picked out! Her full name is Charleigh Grace!
  • I love Charleigh, Poppy, Clover, Penelope and Violet. SO says no to all. We're still undecided on a boy name.
Mama Bear to Ollie, Leilah, and Lennon. Pregnant with Little Moo 2.0 (our rainbow baby). Due 02/14/2016.

I'm kind of laughing that so many of these so called guilty pleasure names are so normal. My guilty pleasure name is Gypsy! :\">

I like August too!!  Augustine is a family name and I am trying to talk H into using it for a boy.  I was thinking Augie as a nickname.  I'm pretty sure i'll get vetoed and I'm not even sure how much the kid would like it when he grows up but I just love it so much

  • I also love Willa but it's grown a lot in popularity. I like Ellen and Violet but H doesn't.
  • Birdie (girl), Milo (boy)

Mom to Benjamin 6/2011 and Lena 5/2013; baby 3 on the way

  • I have two.. Odette and Gwendolyn .. my husband has turned down the last one and will probably make fun of me on the first. Oh well. Still love them
  • I LOVE the name Penny, it's short for Penelope, and I actually might still use it, we'll see! I also LOVE Evelyn, but DH nixed it ages ago :( I also like Rose, Ellie, Piper, and Nora. Each one of those were nixed because they are either in a TV show, in a book, or DH knew someone by that name :'(

Yeah I liked that NN too for an Isabella but still too popular due to Twilight.

@twindling I loved the name Lucy but DH vetoed it due to all the name calling she would have to endure (whatever) so we named a pet we fostered Lucy so I could get my fix. :)
