I have always like Annie, Lucy, June, Eleanor, Bella, Madelyn, Rose… for girls. They have all been vetoed for one reason or another.

I love Isabella for a girl to knickname her Izzy but was vetoed. Bummer!
Yeah I liked that NN too for an Isabella but still too popular due to Twilight.

@twindling I loved the name Lucy but DH vetoed it due to all the name calling she would have to endure (whatever) so we named a pet we fostered Lucy so I could get my fix. :)
Oh no is it a twilight name? This is what I get for being out of the loop haha!

  • I am having a girl this time, and I don't have any names (guilty pleasure or not!) but I had a guilty pleasure name for my son. I wanted to name him Sterling. For some reason, I just liked that name. But everyone vetoed it including my husband. Some thought of Sterling Archer from the FX show, some thought it sounded pretentious.  My second choice was Gavin, which also got vetoed by my husband. I was hoping to use one of those for my second, but we are having a girl!

I love August for a boy but my husband is dead set against it. Same w most of my boy names :) I also love Ruby and Iris for girl names and those are vetoed. In his opinion anything that is a "noun" can't be a name. His only exception is Autumn (which I'm not crazy about).
I like August too!!  Augustine is a family name and I am trying to talk H into using it for a boy.  I was thinking Augie as a nickname.  I'm pretty sure i'll get vetoed and I'm not even sure how much the kid would like it when he grows up but I just love it so much
If we have a boy there's a really good chance we'll have his middle name be August :) It's my Grandpa's name, so I'm really pushing for it!

@Bfavors my husband is still against that name completely :) Also, we plan to give this one a middle name that represents my heritage like we did with our last one.

Bummer, but good call on the other name you have planned.

  • I LOVE the idea of fraternal twins being Luke and Leia.  Just for this reason did I want fraternal twins (and it would mean I would NEVER have to be pregnant again which is my DREAM).  Hubs said no.  BOO!

I wanted to name a daughter after both my grandmothers, Demetra Dorothy, and call her Demi Dot!  Also vetoed by hubs because we have an unusual last name and thought that is too weird.  Also BOO!
  • I like Sailor and Quinn for girls names but dh is not a fan.
  • I love Kennedy or Alexis for a girls name but DH doesn't like either and says Alexis is a car name, and reminds him of a stripper (sorry to offend anyone).  I love them though. I also love Jordyn for a girl.  None of which will happen.

    This. Yes.
  • I love the name Rena, it was my grandmothers and she was awesome but it was vetoed. I also love the names Ruby and Roxanne (we would call her Roxy).

I love Alexis. An ex ruined it for me when he said "yeah when the girl is in HS, it's gonna be 'oh I'm gonna take a ride in Alexis later' "

  • My husbands name is Kenny, and we never named any of the boys after him, which he whines about. So I thought If it was a girl we could call her Kenny. IDK, I think it's cute :)

Good point, thank you for pointing that out.  I'm done w/ that name then! lol  Maybe everyone should post their baby's potential names looking for negative feedback...b/c that could seriously impact your high school life, self-esteem, etc!  Going extreme here but it could happen.

Oh Bless, thats terrible! I know how you feel though, every name I pick my husband automatically comes up with some type of joke for it and ruins it for me. I love the name Lucy but ruined it saying she would be called Lucy Goose-y.

  • I love the name Jasey Rae. Husband says it sounds like a stripper /:
I'm also obsessed with the name Skye but sadly I can't name my child behind his back! Lol
  • I always loved the name Carlito. Ever since I was a little girl I loved the name. My husband said no. Lol.
  • I didn't even realize until I got pregnant that my entire name list were all guilty pleasures. Because when I finally got pregnant, I was like, "funny, you're not actually naming a kid that..." but of course the other part of me was trying to convince myself I really do like those names. Examples:

    Promise
    Grace
    Olivia
Jerra Miah (see what I did there? lol)

BTW, some of those are actually perfectly reasonable names that are popular and perfect, but our last name starts with an S and I didn't realize until I started researching that any name that ends with /s/ just won't work for our last name which makes me sad. And Olivia is just way too popular now.

  • For boy I LOVE the names Kable, Rhys, and Paxton (Pax) for short.

For girl, I want to use my grandmas name somehow (Delores) because she's amazing, but I hate the actual name. So I'm considering using Dee (what Papa calls her).

Hubby refuses those boy names but he's warming up to using Dee for our girl.

I've always loved Della (nn Dee) for a girl, maybe I can live vicariously through you.
  • My GP name WAS Atticus until Harper Lee's new book, where it turns out that character is a racist bigot. As much as I want to associate that name with the morally upright character in TKAM, I think it will probably be tainted now (at least for me). Luckily there are so many other great names out there! Most of which DH also hates lol ;)

    imageLilypie - (zxAe)

  • @PaniaO those are all so interesting! Any time you feel like bouncing a new GP name off some random strangers, I volunteer to listen and talk you down off the ledge ;)

  • I'm looking into astrological/mythological names now. I really like Callisto which in astrology is the 4th moon of Jupiter and in mythology (don't quote me on this because I'm still researching) had a thing for Zeus and was trying to hide out from Juno. She ultimately ended up transforming into a bear after wandering into forbidden territory and that is where the constellation comes from as well. DH has been talking about liking the name Callie and thought this could be a perfect nn for Callisto. Is it horrible? Be honest... but don't rip me a new one lol.

I love boy names for girls even though I probably won't use one. Another one is Everly. I like the way it sounds and I like the nn Evie. It is just too trendy for me to use. Especially since my other two girls have traditional names.

Boys names I like for girls are Ryan, Dylan and Kyle.

H's girl cousin is Ryann. It's super cute

I love Quinn for a girl!! if I could pick any Name for a boy without worrying about knowing anyone else Quinn, and Owen first name and thenKenneth for a middle name for a boy,
  • @PaniaO I am liking a few of those names. I love Oliver but a BF has the cutest little boy named Oliver. I kind of like the Ozlie.

I have posted a few names earlier in the thread but I have to say we are actually using our unusual GP boys name and I am loving it. :)

My best friend's name is Callie (not a nickname) and I think it's a cool name. Be prepared for people to constantly call her Kelly or misspell it as Cali, though. We even had an older teacher in high school who called her Connie lol
  • @PaniaO - I think the name Apollonia is pretty too, but I can't get over the association with the Godfather movie. (Michael's sweet young first wife that dies tragically in a car bomb meant for him.)

Oh. My. Gawd. You are so right. How did I forget that? Now I should thank DH for rejecting it! Seriously, this is huge. My big thing is exactly this--both the character who dies thing and specifically characters from the Godfather! My puppy who I named Santino (Sonny) for the character died from a rattlesnake bite when we were backpacking. So I'm superstitious now. I can't believe I didn't think of the Apollonia thing! Insane. I would have been setting up my second 'child' in exactly the same way!

Hopefully car bombs are unusual in your area, so it would've likely been ok? :)

But sorry to hear about your little Santino! Poor pup! :(

  • I thought of a GP name. I love the sound of Javier. But since I have absolutely no Spanish background and a heavy German last name, it just wouldn't fit.

It just reminds me of the Disney jr show miles from tomorrow land Ha (which my boys watch like every morning!) I thought it was a boy name at first though!

I had a dog called "brandy" and he sure as hell behaved drunk. He ran into a car and died when he was two. I've taken names seriously after that too.
