I have a 50% chance of miscarriage. I have my ultrasound scheduled for Wednesday, and I am so anxious for it. I'm hoping to see some positives signs.
And while this chart helps some, until I get my CVS test at 11 weeks (g-d willing), I'll be all nerves regardless :(

  • I agree that this can be tough to see, but I also think it helps keep it into perspective that everyday you get closer to that 2nd trimester your odds go up.  I was kind of wondering when most people did have a miscarriage (how far along they actually were).  I know its different for everyone, but there is some comfort in getting to a certain point.  So thank you for posting.
  • This helps me breathe a little sigh of relief. Of course stats are only stats, but I have miscarried before (at 5 weeks) so this helps me feel that the likelihood of it happening twice at this early stage may be lower than my worried mind tends to believe (assuming I'm healthy and don't have any unidentified risk factors). Thanks for sharing!
  • Thank you for posting this! Just found out I'm pregnant again after a miscarriage at 11 weeks last year. I know I'll have to take it one day at a time. But this helps!

I agree. I ike seeing the progress and love that it is day to day, not just week to week. But I can also see how it would make you feel pretty terrible if you're in that small percentage group. I'm going to keep checking back to this though, I have a feeling.

  • Thanks for posting. Very interesting. I definitely thought chances were lower since it seems to be more common. This has helped ease my fears for the moment.
  • I miscarried 2 pegnancies... What source are March mommies using for this data?
  • @NReamer, I think they pulled it from a site looking at human embryo survival statistics.

Here's a similar chart where you can plug in your LMP and see stats for you: https://spacefem.com/pregnant/mc.php?m=07&d=02&y=15

These odds used to be comforting- I wish I was still naive enough to think I could never fall in the 1-2%. :( odds just don't mean much when you've found yourself on the wrong side of them.
My thoughts exactly- I actually think this post is crap. Pregnancy loss is hard enough without others pointing it out to you how unlikely it is to happen.

This actually is meant to provide comfort, not to rub the possibility of a miscarriage in anyones face. I think every woman who reads this post is already anxious and nervous about miscarriages, and for some, seeing these statistics can be reassuring during times when you have nothing else to go off of.
It isn't that I don't understand the point of the post. It is that I think it is ridiculous and frankly not helpful when you DO find yourself in that small percentage.
  • Thank you so much for this. I'm scared sh--less to have another m/c, and now I just want to give you creepy internet hugs.

I agree that statistics are crap when you are on the other side of them, and I'm genuinely sorry for your loss. I really hope that you see this board as a whole as 98% supportive and 2% misguided/irrelevant/trolling/special snowflake. (Anything more would be completely unrealistic.)

That said, being on the side of having miscarried at 3w6d, I'm very comforted by statistics contradicting my previous belief that there was an equivalent risk of miscarriage all the way until a heartbeat can be detected, at which point it drops substantially. I'm relieved to see that the risk instead decreases incrementally each day, so I can greet each morning as a success instead of holding my breath for the next 13 days.
  • This chart is the odds of a healthy embryo developing . It does not take into consideration other factors such as a SCH, progesterone levels, etc. I have seen people loose their babies at 38 -41 weeks in the office. I'm not being a Debbie downer I'm being realistic. I'm not a fan of these charts however if it gives somebody some sort of comfort then how bad can it be? Just don't be naive
  • I appreciate this post because while I'm realistic that things may happen- there is absolutely nothing that can be done by obsessing over it- it helped me to enjoy this time instead of being a crazy mess-- it's clear from most posts that MC is extremely common- but enjoy today because we're all expecting
