Who can relate with: First World Pump Issues?

When you are massaging/ pinching every square cm of your breast trying to fill up to the 5oz line,(so it will be a perfect freezer bag size). You are sooo close, you get cocky and go ahead and fill out the paperwork on the bag. You pinch and pinch till you've gone in a full circle. You manage to find the hidden pocket so you freeze, pinching your nail clawed boob in an oblong shape so to not lose that precious milk flow. Then the pump automatically switches from 120 pumps per minute to 40 ppm and you have to remove your hand to turn it back up, or sit there FOREVER.

  • I normally don't either, but baby had his first vaccinations today. As soon as he started crying my milk kept dropping till it was pouring! Normally I get 3oz. Don't worry chick, we'll get there!!
  • I thought I was having a reaction to the funnel things because I kept getting little red spots all on my boob... Turns out it was my finger nails. Lol. Also... That moment you detach the bottles and valve parts from your hands free bra, leaving two little tubes pointing out and your husband says "hehe. Austin powers" (guns come out of her bra). :)

I bought storage bottles instead of bags, they take up more space but are easier to handle and they are the same price. Each bottle takes 80 ml wich is a little under 3 oz i guess, not sure and too lazy to check lol. 1 glorious morning i filled 3 in 1 session!!!!! Other times i keep switching breasts and looking and baby videos and pictures while pumping to fill up 1 bottle, *sigh*

My maternity leave is nearing it's end and i don't get a lotwhen pumping and i barely have the time now so i just know i wont be able to pump day by day i need a big storage! :'(

I hope DD is ready to start solids at 5 and half months! Takes some pressure off my boobs! Lol

I stay home with my baby so I don't stash milk, he rarely gets fed from a bottle, but if I know I'm going to need to pump in the morning for a planned trip or outing I do the night feedings from only one side so in the morning I pump from the opposite side and usually get just over 5ozs in about 10 minutes from the one side, no massaging or stressing about it. Maybe that'll help so you can stress less over getting that perfect amount.

@LadyBlood that's great if you're doing it every once in a while, i did it for about a week or so and it lowered my supply :(
  • Oh, the joys of pumping! I've been freezing smaller amounts. Usually between 3.5-4.5oz.

I'd love to see how other moms have their milk stores and what their plans are. I've got a pretty decent stash, and I'm hoping I can stop pumping and switch over to my freezer supply when little one is somewhere around 6-9 months.

I have been wondering though, since breast milk "changes" depending on babies age, is it bad for a 6 month baby to be drinking breast milk pumped when he was 2 months? Anyone know?

  • @ashtownyeah - I've wondered the same thing. I have a year mat leave so I'm only pumping occasionally to build a freezer storage for if we go out or in case of emergency. Since I won't be using it very frequently I am hoping my stash will last a while. But is it okay to give an 8 month old baby milk that was pumped for my 2 month old?
  • @chambersbaby2015 I did some research on this! From what I can find, the milk doesn't change significantly enough to matter so it's okay. :)

Thanks for looking into it :)
