November 2015 Moms

Terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad advice!

So I'm sure we've all been subject to a lot of unnecessary and probably unwarranted advice. What's some of the worst, or most "Huh?" worthy tips you gotten?

I had a girl today tell me that you don't actually NEED prenatals, because she quit taking them at 5mo and her baby was fine! "I also smoked and drank Mt. Dew every day, and was fine. Don't listen to the doctors." Um, that's okay, I'll just keep listening to the professionals...

  • When pregnant with dd I kept having a co-worker tell me to mix pablum (sp?) into their bottle as early as 2 months because breastmilk will just not be enough.... Umm thanks but no thanks.
  • Loading the player...
  • Been told to stop running because they will make stretch marks worse. Ummm ok
  • This wasn't said to me, but my friend who went through IVF. "You're about 2 weeks pregnant then, you better start wearing maternity clothes so you don't restrict the baby"

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • My husband's coworker told him that ultrasounds cause autism. Ummmm, wtf!?!?
  • When I was pregnant with my first daughter, I had a server at a cafe REFUSE to bring me ice tea because I was pregnant.  I told her until she could produce her medical degree for me, she best be bringing me my tea.

The lady at meijer yesterday looked at me like I was a Cyclopes because I was buying a thing of snapple tea.. She then said "teas bad for babies when your pregnant" umm I'm sorry but if you had a medical degree why are you working for minimum wage at meijer? Don't judge what I want to drink dammit just scan my stuff so I can home and drink my half and half tea and watch wreck it Ralph..
    I love Wreck it Ralf!!
  • I been told by family and friends and even customers to "tie my tubes". The judgement comes because come November I will be mother of "Irish Twins".I always say " we want four this is #3" and just laugh. I get weird looks all the time ..
  • When I was pregnant with my second boy I had a lady tell me if I ate yogurt he would turn into a girl. Not too super crazy I think I've read that weird thought in an article. But......She said this to me when I told her we knew it was a boy after our ultrasound! Lol WTF.

My FIL told me it was safe to water ski as long as a wear a full-body wetsuit to hold the baby in. WTAF.

Well you DON'T want the baby falling out in the water, do you?
I literally could not believe he said those words... Totally called him out for completely making it up, and he said some lady he knew was given that advice by her doc.

  • When my daughter was an infant and would get a stuffy nose, an in-law suggested I rub vicks vapor rub under her nose....WHHHHATTTT!! Never!

  • The cleaning lady at work told me not to put the time out chair in the bedroom.
  • Ladies thank you! I needed that laugh.
  • Soo many... But the funniest was this past weekend, traveling in an uber and the driver told me I couldn't run because it feels like an earthquake to the baby. He literally said, I've spoken to a lot of doctors about that. Oh yeah? Are you a pregnant woman running a marathon? I think not.
  • I got the "don't take prenatal vitamins because they're bad for the baby. They cause babies to grow too big and be born with lots of hair and that's so unnatural" - - wtf???
